  1. What do you use to take off whatever topcoats and finishes to get as low back to the leather? I then want to recolor, probably with a paint by airbrush. Or..any other suggestions?
  2. I'll second the pin idea. I came back three time until I actually "got IT" Everybody for years will need this one!
  3. Hey. The ? on cost and your singer expert here @ LW are the same! Get ahold of Bob Kovar @ Toledo Ind. Sewing. AKA sewmun! Great guy who knows his singers and stocks parts! The pulley trick works to forever slow the machine. The servo I got from Bob gives me the choice of slow to fast by setting a knob. Thats why my 111w works on the clutch, slow always...and the 31-15 I can still rip when I do canvas, ETC. Call Bob
  4. Great post. I came late to this party! Does anyone make this stamp now? Why not?
  5. Alright! I got a picture off FEEBAY. Cannot tell how it skives or the width of skive. Any answer close is OK
  6. I just ran into a used 3-1 Landis, Have not seen. What does it do besides cutting straps. The current owner does not know.
  7. Maybe this should be in a different place, if so move it. I see such great work when somebody posts a thread or replies and want to enlarge to see details of the profile. Can this be done off the thread? On the profile? I cant find it. Maybe i'm being dense? That has happened one other time!
  8. The 111w155 is for light weight leather say 3/8" total. It is a true Industrial Walking Foot and handles needles up #24, no reverse. I leave it set up @ 140/22 with 138 thread for liners on holsters and sheaths and to sew stiffener on belt backs. As far as servos, they are great. Yes they are a little "costly" but so are runaways that ruin a project!. I have a servo w/speed reducer on my cowboy 4500 and just put a SEWPRO 500 GR on my Singer 31-15. They are great for adjusting the speed to the job and do not use elect. except when sewing. I just went the other route on the 111w because I have several clutch motors from switching to servos I wont live long enough to wear them out. LOL
  9. I just put a new clutch motor on my Singer, and without wanting to burn the clutch in, decided it was time for a new pulley. Went to Farm and Fleet, got a 10" pulley for $14, a 1/2" hub $5 and took to a welder to mount hub to pulley. $12. WOW , did that slow her down, and now have great hand control! Had to play with a couple belts to get the right size. All worth while, for the cost. Also had to cut the table belt slot a little wider and deeper with a jigsaw.
  10. Hi Joe. I think from your handle you like .45. Me too! O.K. Guy walks into a gun shop and wants ammo. ??? What do you want to shoot? How far away? How much you want to spend for the right ammo? What caliber? Same for a machine. How thick is the most you want to sew. 10 layers of canvas at seams? Bridle leather of 4 thickness of 8 oz.? How heavy a thread for the stitch you want? Ask that and get a great answer here!
  11. I GROK! But it's still a little salty.
  12. Thanks Art, but your no help in talking me out of this! I thought this thread would get more comments, but hey, maybe it's just a good idea.????
  13. I have printed this info and find it invaluable on my machines! "THIS NEED TO BE A PINNED SITE TO ANSWER HUNDREDS OF QUESTIONS!"
  14. I have been seriously looking at buying a campbell to get the "perfect stitch" for holsters and belts. I have now a great 31-15 singer, a 111w155 singer, a cowboy 4500 for long arm. Why not an awl and needle to finish the arsenal! Your thoughts gratefully appreciated. TALK ME OUT OF THIS!...... PLEASE!
  15. I received back my four round knives, including my cherished W Rose and an ASB i couldn't edge, from Neal Cowan in Ga. Also had two ruby and three steel swivel knife blades done. Great work, super service, fair price! NEAL COWAN. 478-719-4711
  16. First They look like a good idea and I have several holsters, I like, with them. So the question really to me is, "Why Not"? Second, I guess, is were to buy the various screws and rubber spacers?
  17. CONGRATS! I'm sure you'll love that steel more even after you use it a lot. Great box.
  18. I have the 4500. I have no problem turning "needle down" and from what I've read on this site, its the only way to assure alignment. I have not had my cowboy skip a stitch, no matter the operator error! LOL Kevin
  19. If you have a singer "3115" that needle is too big, but if you have a "31-15" you could go up to a 23 needle, and the 22 is preferred for 69 and 138.
  20. Hi, new member. Welcome to the forum, were you'l gets lots of info on using your new machine. Just GOOGLE, Singer manuals and there is a FREE site the has almost all singer manual and parts lists. Sorry i don't have the link handy. That will give you limitations on foot hight, thread sizes, and needle systems for you steel. There also is a guy on here named Bob, from Toledo Industrial Sewing, that has a lot of singer knowledge and he can help you with advice and probably parts, etc.
  21. Try INCREASING the top thread tension to pull the bottom up tighter.
  22. CONGRATS! A new piece of steel that moves in circles! I almost forgot how great it is to get a new machine and I'm sure you'l love it. Nice choice, by the way. Enjoy and post your new work for all to see. Kevin PS I love where you live and envy your days there!
  23. Hey Wiz. I also would like a larger wheel on my 31-15 and I already have the great, great servo. But I do start all runs with a hand reverse stitch and would like more hand control, only. Its not a speed thing for me! Do you know how I build a new wheel and gear to get what I want? Or has somebody out-there done it before and could share?
  24. Great Luke. thats IT! Now. How do you lay out the "gunfighter", "Saddle stitch" "fishtail stitch", "Boot stitch"? Whatever its called, I WANT IT.! LOL
