Well Elboze, that just about does it on advice. You are now up to your Eyeballs with info. I'll add my last thought to you. I got real lucky, no..I listened to these good chaps. First I got a great singer 31-15 and started to learn to sew. $75. for the head, $50 for a table w/motor and light and then added a Servpro motor. Value...Priceless. Love that little Singer. It wasn't big enough for belts. Next a great, great 111w155. Paid $250 complete and after a hard cleaning and oiling. Perfect walking foot machine. It wasn't big enough for holsters. Soooo!!. Next was a cowboy 4500. It's big enough for anything. Wouldn't be without a single one of those machines. Good luck, go slow, and enjoy the search. Kevin

Now, lets work on this idea awhile. I've seen the Campbell ads showing them sew a coin on leather. Nice ad. You've got a very nice makers mark. I don't know about you, but I seem to make scraps (abbreviation for small crap) get it? OK, work with me here. Small, even cheap???, cardboard box with your makers mark on s..craps of leather??? sew it on. Work on it. Might just go somewhere.

Thanks for the speedy response. Subscription sent. I still think the donation/subscription/member option should be more prominent!

I read with interest the post for MAY contributions. It suggested a PAYPAL botton was on the home page?. I searched and could not find anywhere on the entire forum to become a contributing member. There I go again being dense! Point me to it. This should be in an obvious place and I think many more would be willing to JOIN, as a productive member. We all get so much from this site. Time to PAY FORWARD. Kevin

Anybody Here Using Tool "boxes" For Their Hand Tools?
KAYAK45 replied to LilRay's topic in Leather Tools
Look at that idiot with the roll-away! I have lots of square footage, wife doesn't want wall tool racks. Can't say I blame her. .....She just looked at my screen! Anyway, I have a nice cardboard box just right sized for the FINISHING STUFF. Another for DYES. A bucket with an organizer thing of canvas for hammers and brushes and mauls and and. A copper spittoon full of wax for awls and needles,... you get the idea. A cupboard with lots of stamps on a turntable thing, and when I start a new project I go load a wood holder w/stamps i'm going to use on that project. Never have used more than twenty at a time. The boxes are nice cause they'r cheap and when they become the wrong size, either way, just change em. -
Trust me it's worth it, at least for awhile. CB 4500/me in basement!

GOOD NEWS! Thats the easiest thing to solve you could have. Get Bob on the phone to listen and talk you through some diagnosis and your problem will go away, one way or another. The main thing you get from Toledo Industrial is Bob! He also could/would/will, talk you through almost any problem with you machine.

First, I am not a chap maker. That said there is a post somewhere, out there, (kinda like a song) about making adjustable chaps. That was one of your questions. The builder used a removable strap to mount the zipper of the onside of the fringe side. This was attached by plating or weaving, or whatever knot people do (haha) a great looking seam on the outside just in front of the fringe. That mounting strip could be as wide as you like and can be re-plated, with little work to any future size need ,including normal stretch. Sorry I cannot point to the post of the real worker! Hope you can get some ideas from my words.

Your question was THE BEST WAY, and that asks a lot. Don't know, is the short answer. Two alternatives come to mind, nither of which I have done. No matter the approach you will need the missing hole the missed stitch did not make. Use the same needle and you have the same hole, by hand. Now you need a method to send thread through that hole to one side of both the top and bottom thread and then to the other side, and again once to end with a thread top and bottom in you hand. Now draw your knot to the center of you work also drawing you current top and bottom inside. Fix knot with Elmers. The other, as previously posted, is to lock the previous and subsequent stitches with Elmers, cut the offending thread and resew by hand. PS: thanks for the post on stiffeners! Kevin

How To Make Shoe Lasts
KAYAK45 replied to builderofstuff's topic in Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Moccassins
It would seam logical that if one manufactures a ca mold for that matter one ends with that, a may haps perfect replica of a foot. This somewhat reminds me of the rick question from college which i paraphrase: If the world produced and sold very high qualities and quantities of 1/4" drill bits. Say a few million. From this information how many people wanted 1/4" drill bits. NONE: They all wanted 1/4" holes. The purpose is not to make a perfect last of a foot, but rather a perfect covering needed for the foot! By its very making of the last "allowances" are built by the craftsman who measures the foot, and will/can result in a last several sizes larger than the foot in places, to allow for little things, like putting them on and removing them. An exact replica would therefor fail. Another point is of the last being used for leather, in our discussions, is the very making of the footwear distorts, by necessity, the product we are using. Wetting, stretching, sewing, molding, all change the leather. (OK skiveing hammering polishing oiling ETC) Upon completion of the "perfect" footwear, from the "perfect duplication of the foot", the leather will dry, shrink, maybe expand as used, change shape and the resultant, intended perfection is wasted. What I think, I would want from a last, is a tool to make a perfect boot. Not a perfect replication of the foot. -
Welcome, welcome. Come one and all! This forum will have all you answers, somewhere?!. Check out all about leather for your question on types of leather for projects. Dyes, etc to finishers and conditioners, should get your project as soft, or hard as you want. And by all means ask, ask, ask if the search feature does not get you what you need. You are in the correct location for cuff ideas. Posting include items from watchbands to 11" old west cuffs, to full arm shields for sword fighting. Personally I prefer holsters for fights, but to each his own. I don't like to get that close; to use a sword! LOL Again welcome, and surf to your delight. Kevin
