  1. Make your own. A blade from any wood plane attached to a solder iron or hobby heating iron/embosser should do the trick. Dixon leather tools has the old style "edge Iron" heated by lamp (or blow torch).
  2. Handsome piece. Should last a lifetime..or two!
  3. Good videos can be purchased at hidcrafter,.... or join the iilg and check them out of the library for close to free. Now somebody else check in if this is wwrong pslg dot.something has a checkout library. Its Pugent Sound Leather Guild, I think. Your choice. But go to iilg anyway and PsLg for that matter. Good luck with those new tools, your gonna like them.
  4. OK Stanley, reamed, drilled, holed, or jest made the right size by a machine guy. Of which I'm Not! LOL Jest gitterdone..

    Boot Lasts

I'd like to know sizes and cost per unit, or groups of units. Not the low heal.
  7. Hey guys. I put the 11" on my 111w155 and its great for hand control. I've got Bob's servo and it too is a great way to control a 31-15. The problem I foresee, though minor, is the shaft size on the 30-. It' different than the 111w. I don't remember which way. In addition to welding a hub onto the pulley you will have to get the smaller hub than your shaft and have it drilled to match. It will give you 30- a great speed change!
  8. Hi Dwight! Love your press. Read this, went to the garage, and yep, a hydraulic jack. Looked further and found a two inch tubing, welded square... bout the right size, maybe a little big, but a couple 2x4's and it'l be right as rain. Thanks for the picture.
  9. Any boot maker information. Also willing to rent/return for $$$?
  10. After reading about every post on this net I am convinced to buy a Versa Groover. Went to google and found "no where" I've got the phone and address for Bob, and phone for Sheridan Leather Outfitters, but would like to SEE stuff from him. Any other connection?
  11. Another way to slow that bad boy down can be used, cheap! Farm and Fleet type stores have pulleys. Get a, say ten inch, and the 1/2 inch arbor. Total cost, say $20 Bucks. A welder to attach the arbor to the new wheel, about $12. The speed result,...priceless. You will need a longer belt and cut your table belt slit to fit the new angles with a jig saw. For full speed just replace the original belt and wheel. Maybe five minutes.
  12. Hey Mark. Looks great to me. I'd have you make me one, but then the wife would ask why I have so many sewing machines, leather and tools and buy my stuff outside. Easy answer. I want the good stuff, not what I sell. LOLOLOL
  13. I have ordered several things from Weaver and they come in a Tandy pouch. It would not surprise me if the stamping tools come from Tandy, especially at the price they offer them. Frank They ARE "craftaid" from Tandy per the catalog. Your other question on Weaver Tools. Horseshoe tools are great, even if a tadd high. Some of their stuff is CS Osborne and the Catalog number starts w/ SCO. Super service, at least to me.
  14. Sorry I'm late to this party. Nobody ever answered your question on a repair manual. Your in luck! Compliments of the U.S. government! I can't give you the link, but, tpub.com, somewhere in Aviation Maintenance, Preventative Maintenance, Chapter 4 sewing machines, is a FREE, pretty complete guide for 111W155 and 31-15. Really bad spacing and font but you can read and great info.
  15. Really nice! Wantta post how you did it, or are you going commercial? and I gotta buy one.LOL
  16. I'm curious, not serious, about boot making. Would like to peruse information to see if more interest develops. One I'm particularly interested in is the custom boot book by bighousedaddy. Another would be Frommer anything, Thanks, Kevin
  17. Another great FREE source for lasts is at " www.thehcc.org" the bottom left GUILD LIBRARY, DOWNLOAD PDF of turn of the century boot making, including the Full Wellington A.K.A. the cowboy boot.
  18. Are you pre-punching your stitch hole with an awl? or trying to push the needle through? Tandy leather has a free stitching tuitoral. go to the bottom left of their home page for VIDEOS. Nice stuff! Also Al Stohlman's book, The Art of Hand Sewing Leather (Tandy Leather)), is a must read and includes how to prepare your thread, thread your needle, attach thread to the needle and punch/stitch. Much, much more included.

  20. Prior posts speak of reinforcement and stiffeners. What IS the common added material, other than leather to shape, form and retain an extra stiff throat mainly on IWB holsters. Aluminum. Steel kydex plastic rawhide ETC.? Oh..... and where to source whatever, at a reasonable cost?
  21. Hello folks. Glad to see Wiz and his remarks on using the eye twice, I found that the best way on my cowboy and felt guilty not following the "BOOK". Gotta follow the BOOK, even when written in china,...... except when you find a better way. Again glad I'm not alone in this trespass.
  22. Al Stohlman in his later years only used a 4 inch round knife, saying anything bigger was too hard for him to handle. I have round knives. scarf knives, utility knives, etc. etc. Use the round knife and surgical exacto the most,
  23. Congratulation! I got a new cowboy awhile back and remember trying to find somebody to tell. LOL You will LOOOVE that machine. PM me if you have any newbie questions, as I just went through that.
  24. Try Al Stohlman , "How to make holsters" Lots of patterns and tips on construction. Good luck and post pictures when done.!
