Lighter Cover And Wallet
benlilly1 replied to reddevil76's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very, very, very NICE!! I especially love the wallet. The 2 different leathers look great together. Nice clean work. Very high end quality. -
NICE! Looks comfy!

Beautiful! The Papa Clutch really stands out. The scales on the fish and the skin on the creature is awesome.... I have a question maybe you can give me an answer. I am in the process of wet forming a piece of leather. I have had trouble in the past with it stretching way out of shape from carving and stamping then when I'm ready to lay it on my base it is way oversized. I usually try to have it cut close to exact size before wetting. Do you have a trick way of knowing how to figure cutting size? I know you probably don't wet form your seats. I just thought you might know. Thanks

I LIKE!!! Nice! -
Jimbob, I used F900 and B701 for bevelers and a little help from a modeling tool. Lacing is the triple stitch. I would like to learn more exotic lacing. I love to lace. Yep, old school was what I was going for...Thanks for the comments!

Mortal, I use Fiebings dyes and their Atom Wax... Thanks everyone for the comments!

Thanks! Just a single 1/8" hole punch.

Wow, I feel for you...I think I wouldn't have shipped anymore until paid for the first. Just goes to show you it's hard to trust anyone these days. Maybe they thought they found a sucker (no pun intended). Good luck

2 New Quivers, The First I Have Made...
benlilly1 replied to Tina's topic in Archery Quivers and Bow Cases
Tina, I've been asked by my son-in-law to make him a quiver. Before he asked me this I didn't know what a quiver was. He is really into hunting and wants me to make him a bow case and quiver out of an elk hide he shot on a trip to Montana. This is a prized possession and I don't want to ruin this hide. The question I have is the hair is attached and I need to know how to sew this. Do I cut back the hair to be able to sew it? I saw your photos and thought you could be of help. Thanks -
Thanks for the info Leatheroo

I carve, mold, punch holes, dye, lace and protect. I only wet just what is needed to form it to the pan. The holes I punch carefully and rest just what area needs to be punched on board. It's tedious but it works. Here's a photo of my first seat.

Why do you bevel lacing? I don't know anything about this process. You say it makes a nicer finish? This must be for lace you are making yourself?

Getting An Even Finish Using Fiebings Dye
benlilly1 replied to wvcraftsman's topic in How Do I Do That?
It wouldn't be that the dark spots are from your hands? I learned to have clean dry hands. NO lotions. I found this out after tooling a piece and dyeing. -
I'm not getting how to meet the ending lace with the starting point. I have a lacing instruction book. I've went step by step. Mine doesn't look right. I'm also worried about it being secure. Is there an easier way?

What is the best way to form leather like for a gun holster or anything that you want to make the leather to shape around? I assume the leather is cased? Also how much larger do you cut the leather to accommodate for the shaping? Is there also certain weights that are best for forming? Thanks
