  1. Snap! My swivel knife blades are nowhere near that sharp! Guess I know what Im ding tonight huh!
  2. Hi, Im Kelly and I have a 'friend' that may be using a dull swivel knife, but I think he really doesn't know how sharp a swivel knife needs to be. He is pretty much self-taught and gathers as much information he can about stuff from some support group that he talks with online somewhere.... He wants to know just how sharp are we talking here.... head knife sharp? sharp enough to slice your finger if ya run it down the blade? My 'friend' wants to know so that my 'friend' isn't using a dangerous, dull blade. Thanks all, I will relay this information to my 'friend'
  3. Heh, I remember those knives. I saved up lawn cutting money to buy one and then found out shortly thereafter that they do not make good throwing knives and that the little compass in the endcap breaks easily. Good looking sheath for it though!
  4. Kind of off topic, but looking at some of the patterns in the Wil G.s pattern pack for the 1911, there are a number of them that have fully exposed triggers. I know about the safeties on a 1911, but my train of thought in holster design is that you want the trigger covered. Are the exposed trigger holster designs historic or vintage design that the train of thought was different?
  5. Heh, I have that once in a while. I usually do a 'Woohoo!' that one is done, and then I look at the next project in line and it all just starts over again hehehe.
  6. Now that is gorgeous! What kind of wood is that? Man, did time just slow down again!?
  7. If it that hard, thin plastic-like coating, it is just a protective coating to protect in shipping and such. I strip all of that stuff off before the first stropping and use.
  8. Oh nice! I have one on the list. Absolutely cannot wait to see it. Lining up projects so that I should have some good work to do once I get it, hehe. Got pics?
  9. I've been using a utility knife to cut all my leather since I started this 'hobby/addiction' and it worked ok for me, but had never used a head or round knife and didn't have a comparison...I figured a knife is a knife and how much easier could it be to cut something with a big knife then it is with my razor sharp utility knife.... Picked one up the other day and wow! Ok, it was just one of the Al Stohlman knives that is on sale at TLF this month for like $45, I didnt want to make a couple hundred dollar investment in something that might end up not liking or needing... so no it isn't anything spectacular or anything... but brother, I tell ya it is MUCH easier then the utility knife!
  10. Thanks so much for the replies. No cotton tread here then. Ya'll rock! Thanks again.
  11. That is what I say as well, everything I do is 'hand-stitched' and I let the consumer know that by that I mean that every single stitch is placed by hand. There seems to be people out there that really seem to like to know that the product they are getting is completely worked by the makers hand.
  12. AWESOME!!!! Can't wait to see the spin that they put on them.
  13. Heh, it might be an old thread, but it doesn't change the fact that every time I actually go into a TLF, I have to have a list and stick to it or a lot of things I didn't count on going home with me... go home with me!
  14. Awesome! Just ordered a maul from them so I hope it doesn't put them into a coma! Looks like I will have to order one of these killer burnishers from them as well now. Awesome! 15. Sounds good... yea, i don't want crappy thread to wear out fast and give problems that could have been prevented easily by using proper thread.
  16. Yea, wanted to say thank you as well. Always thought I was getting a good casing, but once I tried your tips it was like that lightbulb went on and POW! Now THAT is how leather is when it is properly cased. Thanks again!
  17. Looking at some 4 cord cotton thread and wondering if it would be acceptable for hand sewing leather stuff. How does cotton hold up? Does it wear and hold like linen? I mostly do holsters and like items, so the 4 cord might be a little light, but Im not too familiar with thread.
  18. Looks like a great place to start. I would second the trying new stuff idea as well. I started out with 'Im just going to make holsters and gun items...' and now other things seem to take most of my time now hehehe.... hmmm maybe that is where I went wrong though... hmmmm
  19. Talked to Bearman and got on 'the list' for a 21oz .... was it me or did time just slow down?

    Looking pretty cool!
  21. Just a little knife sheath for a Knives of Alaska Cub Bear. 5/6oz with a thin welt on the blade side, no welt on the back to keep it trim and tight on the blade. Still don't like those open basket weave stamps, but I don't think I chunked it up too bad. The burnishing came out well, all thanks to what I've learned on here. Next I think I need to make up a light box because my photography skills stink anyway and I can never get the light right heh.
  22. Shoot, I agree with Sylvia. If you learned something, all was not lost. What are you going to use it for?
