Yes, the 5 minutes does include the time in the press. The holster spends 3 1/2 minutes being pressed, and I spend less than 2 minutes boning/chasing the lines.

I use Weaver's bench top press. Takes up 8" x 22" on one of my workbenches - hardly any space at all. With a couple of mods/upgrades, it will double as a 12-ton clicker. With space at a premium (for most of us), it's the ideal set up in my opinion. I'm not aware of any advantage of being able to bone the detail through a vinyl bag. To me it seems a lot of extra effort to set up/take down a vacuum system like what Particle describes. I try and keep things as simple and functional as I can. The set up that I use does that for me. YMMV. I spend approximately 5 minutes with each holster with respect to pressing it and boning/chasing the lines on it. I've never had a problem/issue with it on holsters that have tooling on them. Here's a couple of pics of basic holsters.

Mark: You can get them from Jerry at Van Amburg. I just ordered some. Dave: That's news to me about Ostrich Market. Last time I checked with them, approximately 3 months ago, they said they did not have any and would not be carrying any ever again. Glad to hear they changed their mind.

How thick are your plates from the Weaver 6T bench top? Mine are 1/2 inch.

I have a custom head knife that was made for me. Never cared much for the handle material. Was recently looking through some old Leather Craftsman magazines and saw where they showed how to braid/wrap the handle on the knife. Braiding is beyond my skill level, and I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in doing this. This is the knife: If anyone is interested in doing this, please contact me. If you can, please send me an email (Kevin ((AT)) kdholsters ((DOT)) com.), or give me a call at our shop. Our number is 813.659.3456. Thanks!

Pocket Holster Question
K-Man replied to steelhawk's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Just an FYI - my comments and information is based on my research of pocket holsters made by the top custom holster makers in the industry, as well as my having made 3,000 - 4,000 pocket holsters in the last 7-8 years. -
Pocket Holster Question
K-Man replied to steelhawk's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The instances I was referring to happened with the gun also coming out of the pocket. The detailed molding puts more of the leather in direct contact with the gun, and that's where you get the retention from. The less there is essentially, the less retention the holster has on the gun. It is, in my opinion, better to have more than less. You can easily loosen it up if the customer desires, but we leave that up to them. -
Pocket Holster Question
K-Man replied to steelhawk's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Actually you do want to mold the pocket holster the same way you do the IWB and OWB holsters. That means applying the same detailed molding. There have been numerous reports of the gun coming out of the pocket holster that is done with less than that. -
As I mentioned to you in the email I sent, we had them offered here on LW. However, I've not been able to find that thread any more. It's possible it might have been lost as a result of some of the computer/server problems that have occurred here since originally posting them. To me it does not make sense to put them on my website where I retail holsters and other leathercrafted items I make. There was a greater exposure to the market here on LW. I saw less than a 1% likelihood that anyone would look for them on our website. We've offered other products specific to the leathercrafter and have listed those here on LW and on eBay. Specific items pertaining to leathercrafters are going to have a greater likelihood of selling on a forum such as LW or eBay rather than on a retail holster website. I may be viewing it wrong, but I don't think so. Perceived interest in your product by certain LW members will bring you better sales, and it looks like you're on that track. Kevin

Really? All I did was show that Spinner's idea/offering was not a new idea, as some comments could be interpreted that way. I even suggested that he offer two different sizes, and indirectly suggested that he offer two different shaft sizes so that he could reach the greatest amount of people. Then I said that I would take our version and go offer it elsewhere. This was so he could reach a great market here on LW. So, BRL, I'd suggest you stick to trying to figure out how to make holsters rather than stick your nose where it doesn't belong. Spinner: I hope you have great success with what you're able to make and offer.
-
We can make it that way. It looks like though that you've got plenty of interest in your style(s). I'll take our offerings elsewhere. Good luck to you!
-
Nice job. You might consider offering them in two basic sizes like we do: Ours can be set up to work in either a Dremel or standard hand drill or drill press. The thought is that most people will have at least one of those types of tools.

Louie: If you're going to be in the central FL area, i.e., Tampa Bay area, give me a shout. I have a lot of books, etc., that would help you out. I'm thinning out a lot of my tools, books, etc. Kevin

Need A Blue Gun Asap! Help! Please!
K-Man replied to bigo5552000's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yes, it will be fine. As I mentioned, the frame size for the two guns are the same. It's only the internals of the actual gun that vary. -

If you'd like, I can send you one to get the dimensions off of. Then just send it back to me. Send me an email if that will work for you. -
Sorry, Johanna, I'm not providing names/that proof. As I mentioned in my posting, I've moved past it. My point was/is that it happens at all levels of the industry.
-
You're going to run across all kinds of people (and attitudes) in this industry. My own experience has been very positive for the most part. I have had instances where my inquiries of "how to/where can I find" have been ignored or have been told to figure it out for myself by a myriad of folks. These include moderators and ambassadors on this forum, other peers in the holster industry in particular, and even an Al Stohlman award winner. So it happens at all levels. My perspective when that happens is that the person is just being ignorant and rude. I have no further respect for them and ignore them thereafter. You have just got to move on past it. There's plenty of very competent people on this forum who will readily answer your questions and try to help you in whatever way they can.
