This has been going on for years, it is a Ford problem, not a Ford truck problem. I don't remember the time span, but it covers about 15-20 years of Fords. If they had been required to recall all of the affected vehicles Ford would have declared bankruptcy, so the feds allowed them to only recall a select number of the affected cars. Generally the fires happen when the cars have been turned off, thus all of the deaths it has caused when people park the cars in the garage and a few hours later when they are asleep, the house burns. If you do a web search there is lots of information out there about this issue.
The odd side of this is I drive a Fiero (it is nicknamed the rolling ball of flame). Everyone "knows" that they all burst into flames, but statistically Fords burn way more often than Fiero's ever did. You rarely ever hear that reported.
