Very cool, super colors. Small lettering I'd have to say I'm with Anvil on this one. When i "attempt" to do small lettering they NEVVVEERRRRR look like that. -
If im not mistaken on some of the wallets I do I use #69.

I use adobe illustrator for line drawings. I believe there is an opensource piece of software called inkscape also. Illustrator will be costly and inkscape will be free.I believe either of those programs will fit what you want to do just fine.

Depending on the customers request I will do several things. 1) Use a buckle for those that like adjusting 2) Use a slotted strap for those that want to adjust but not damage their instrument 3) If they use Dunlop Strap locks punch a #14/3/8" (osbourne punch) hole for the strap locks 4) If they use Schaller Strap locks punch a #15/13/32" (osbourne punch) hole for the strap locks 5) If it's just a strap for stock, I wait to punch the holes until whomever purchases it can tell me what they prefer.

antique
JustWakinUp replied to figthnbullrider's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
On previous projects I've stained the piece, then put a resist on then use Fiebings Antique paste and rub on using a plastic glove. I've always been confused about one part though. Should we be buffing the resist or just put it on? Anyway hope this part helps a little -
Very cool, didn't see a link though.... you can put in a link by using the following code yourlinkgoeshere.com

Hey thanks a ton everyone. I've really been working on getting my carving up to par with all you pros. I may need to switch gears and get a seat and wallet done.

Very good looking site. I was amazed to see that Bleeding Cowboy font. I built my logo around that font. Looks really good

Short Story, I had seen a video about a year or so ago on youtube called custom tooled leather posted by ratfinkazoid. I always thought to myself, damn i really want to do a strap with a chic standing in water. Well a few weeks ago I realized that the person that posted that video had become a member of this board. Inspired as I was, I wanted to make sure it would be O.K with this gentleman to do a spin on some of his leather work. I sent a message to hammerhead and asked if he would mind if I did a girl standing in water as a guitar strap. Nice fella BTW folks, he had no problems at all and said he would like to see what I came up with. The colors didn't turn out as nicely in the photo, but it's a sunburst effect with Saddle Tan in the center and British tan on the outer edges and the edges were burnished with a coat of Black Edge Kote. **Side Note, My wife found the image of the woman on a website somewhere within the past year and I had always saved it. Anyway, here's the images of my recent guitar strap. Thinking of selling this one on eBay, what's your thoughts on a price? Thanks for taking a look. As always bare bones critique welcomed. Keyholes not done, will do those when it sells per customers request. They may prefer keyholes or use schaller/dunlop strap locks.

Hello fellow leatherheads, Well i made a mess of my last project and have another project that is at the phase of staining & finishing. I have a few questions and would be interested in what you have to say about them, so on with the questions 1) After applying the stain how long should I let the piece sit before putting on block out ( a resist )? 2) After applying the resist how long should I let the piece sit before applying antique paste? 3) After applying the paste how long should i let the piece sit before applying the leather finish? 4) After applying the leather finish and buffing how long should i let the piece sit before applying pecards? ( Weather Proofing )? The reason for the questions is simple. I feel like i may be rushing these parts because after staining the piece then applying anything with moisture it seems that the stain gets smeared around a bit which I'm trying to avoid, I really want a clean piece with no stain smearing or antique smearing. These are my two biggest hurdles right now. Any advice greatly appreciated ! And let me preface your answers with a huge Thank You for taking the time out of your work to reply to this game of 20 questions.

Went to Tandy in CLT NC today. They had some quart bottles of Medium Brown Fiebings Paste, I bought TWO Quarts of that stuff which will probably last me a lifetime for $9.00. I was blown away, they were tryign to get rid of it, and the guy said they just sold the last of the sheridan paste ( bummed out for sure after that news) Great deals come periodically so i just had to take advantage of that one.

Hello everyone, As some or most of you I also used leather balm w/ atom wax & Acrylic Resolene from Fiebings in the past. I just wanted to share my first experience with another product. I made a few guitar straps recently and thought I would try this stuff and whoa did I love it. It resisted the antique like I've always wanted a finish too and left a beautiful sheen on the leather. The product is called Bee Natural Leathercare - Leather Finish. If you try it or have used it let me know your thoughts, I probably will not use another finish product after using this one.

I use what Paul Cox uses for water proofing. It's actually called motorcycle leather dressing.
