  1. maybe this will have the instructions you need. https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1220-2691-shotgun-case-and-bird-bag-pattern-pak.aspx
  2. ok... here's a peak at my binder solution. If you are wondering I painted my templates with Sharpies allowed them to dry. I'll come back with some clear nail polish or some spray clear and put a protective coating on them later.
  3. looks like Fish, Snake and Lizard to me. Here's a site with exotic leathers.... maybe you can compare your stuff with what they have? http://www.exoticleather.biz/index.html
  4. I think Bluesman hit it on the head. Proper casing. It's hard sometimes to wait until your leather is ready to cut with a swivel knife. We get excited and want to get to carving.... but ... Too wet and you get wrinkly almost torn looking edges on the cut.
  5. :D Gee that's interesting because I thought all Laced edges were "Spanish Braid" LOL Seriously though.. it's a blanket stitch. I'm fighting a migraine now. If I have time today, I'll experiment a little for you. I think it can be done with two needles, I just have to spend some time with it. Also PM me your email... I think I have something in pdf that you might like to have. Syl
  6. reminds me of the old school leather hacky sacks. I think they were filled with sand or small beans These days I dont' think you could find a leather hackysack... it's all hemp, cotton or faux suede.
  7. Back before hubby and I hit "hardship" status, I did a lot of "crazy coupon lady" shopping. I have a binder that already has baseball card protector sheets in it that work great for those tab and shield templates. (lol it still has coupons in it from 2009!) I'll just add some full size sheet protectors for the larger spiral templates. Most of them will fit just right. The binder is one of those that zips shut so even if the try to slide out of their spaces... they will still be contained. I'll post a picture or two when I'm done.
  8. You might also want to mention that you are a "LWMEMBER"
  9. For me it was color... I like the clear but if I drop them or set them down it's hard for me to SEE them. I've dropped mine, accidentally shut one of the ranger belt ends in the drawer... and not even a crack. But if they did crack or break they are inexpensive enough replacing the set wouldn't be too painful. I bet if that did happen BRL would be happy to cut you a new one for a nominal fee. Certainly couldn't hurt to ask anyway. Which reminds me... I think I'm going to get a binder and some of those sheet or card holders to put them in. That way they won't take up room in my drawer and won't be sliding about.
  10. Ah! I'm familiar with this one too. I use it to make adjustable leather thong necklaces. Thanks!
  11. Hi: You are going to die when I tell you this but that looks like a blanket stitch with 2 stitches going in each lacing hole. here's a tutorial on youtube This might be a better demo for you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QQovb4SGyo
  12. They look very nice! Beautiful in fact. Maybe it's just me... but is that an "N" in America? Or is the font weird and makes the lower case m look like an n? What font is it? I think I have someone who would like that font on their project. Really though very nice job... I think any cowgirl would love to own those.
  13. I'm glad you like them too. That leather gauge is a neat little doodad isn't it? What I like about it is the size... with it being close to a credit card in size but a lot thicker it would be an easy thing to slip in the pocket on the way to the leather store. Sure did make me realize that I've been using a lot thicker leather than I though. :D I can't wait to see what you think of the templates when you use them. I'm really liking mine!
  14. Let me see if I can paraphrase. If your project requires 24 inches you use 48 inches of thread. thread both needles on the waxed thread then tie the ends with a fisherman's knot.... so you have two needles floating on a loop of thread. Then you bring the knot to the middle opposite of it's position and hold these while sliding the needles to the ends. Then you twist the thread (in opposite directions?) so you now have a thread twice the thickness with your two needles on the ends. Is that about it? Now.. which fisherman's knot do you use? I know about 6 depending on the application. This one? http://www.walleyehunter.com/knots/knotuni.gif
  15. Hi Bob... don't ask me!! Ask the original poster. lol I was just letting JayJay know that Tandy now has the pattern on the library site.
  16. Ok fess up... how do you prep your thread?
  17. Jeni: On a lark I looked at spokane craigslist. I found this add for someone that "Pays Top Dollar" for leather tools. http://spokane.craigslist.org/wan/2995143794.html I wonder if you could call him and see if he's received any big lots lately?
  18. Would this work for you? http://www.tandyleatheroutlet.com/p-21-velvet-suede-trim-piece-red.aspx
  19. Catskin..... look up FGM. It's horrific
  20. I agree whole-heartedly. A person's word is their bond.... That said I would probably ask the person that bought them to let others know that the normal price is $80 (or what ever) a set.
  21. I have NO idea if this will work... but perhaps a gallon or so of NAIR or some other depilatory cream smeared on would take it off. Not sure I would try it on the whole hide until you discover whether or not the stuff will work on cow hair. It's likely to make a huge mess too. I think I am inclined to agree with Luke and suggest that you use it as is. Maybe re-upholster your truck seat with it or something??
  22. I just stick my pondo board on top of my granite slab. (kitchen sink cut out from granite counter top place)
  23. Bobocat rules!! I have you liked on my FB page. You do awesome stuff.
  24. I just measured my line 20 and line 24 snaps... and they are respectively 12mm and 15mm across.... so I believe you are searching for Line 16 brown snaps sometimes called glove snaps. Zack White has some line 16 in brown. http://zackwhite.com/xcart/home.php?cat=1060 scroll down a bit. This place also has them in line 16 http://www.onestopcandle.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?store_code=OSC&screen=PROD&product_code=LE125002
  25. Sarah Double C said something I hope you really make note of. "and turn them into something that isn't a mistake." Two of the main thing's I've learned is 1. Mistakes happen but it's how you handle them... and cover them up is how you learn and become good at this. (personally, I think that's why the original tool makers named that one tool a Camouflage stamp .. to cover up or disguise their mistakes.) 2. Leather work takes a Train Car load of patience. Don't rush especially when it comes to drying time of finishes.
