LOL, I don't know what that means? I have never 'tanned' a hide so that's why I through veggie oil into the mix, sigh
-
I'm making a belt out of an English rein that was laced but part of it was broken. I would like to replace the lace with colored rawhide but don't wanna wear a board on my back I bought a whole cows worth, got it for 40 bucks shipped free and when I go to that meeting Thursday I hope to have just about everything I have on made by me except my boots. I've been doing some round braiding with it (well until all this business help got started) and man it dries out fast and it's pretty darn stiff and rough. I know it's SUPPOSED to be, but I'd prefer this to just tandy lace or whatever. I soaked three small pieces and now have Vaseline on one (what I use on all my finished leather to soften and protect it), b ag balm on one (what I use on my finished leather when I run out of Vaseline) and the third, well vegetable oil, what else, LOL. No clue if any of this is going to work so if anyone has some ideas, please let me know. Thanks cheryl

Ipad Sleeves

Those are BOTH adorable, and i think your stitching looked great! Cheryl -
Hi Mark. Please don't be offended if I ask you questions that would be known by someone that wears spurs. Your basket weave looked great, and the finish, and the sewing was superb if it was done by hand, if machine, well very pretty anyway. Is that dark blotch on the top one another hole? And shouldn't the holes be finished? Thanks for putting up with the questions....cheryl

Ruger Hair On Holster
DoubleC replied to gaRYW5's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I don't know anything about guns or holsters, but I really like that hair on hide look. Just the plain cow kind, not all the others. It looked like your sewing kinda walk around, but then the pic that wasn't a thumbnail was huge and kinda grainy so it could have been that. Cheryl -
I think it's cool. Your first thing huh? SIGH, I'm not there after about 20 tries, LOL.

The "waylon Rose" Leather Telecaster Guitar Hand Made
DoubleC replied to Leatherbaron's topic in Guitar Straps
Bless you're heart, you must be the only person that doesn't know. I'm Aunt Matilda, you know the one that lives with relatives because she doesn't have any money. I've only had a swivel knife a little over a week, it was given to me from someone here. Same with the leather, a friend sent it from here for the cost of postage. And I was just talking in a PM to another friend and I said, 'people tell you and me we need this and that, we'll only be as good as our tools. But I don't believe that Terry and told him that too. I said, just think when we get good with these cheap Tandy 6 and move on to really good tools, LOOK out. But I didn't know I was supposed to hold the swivel knife vertical and I appreciate you telling me that. And maybe if I cut deeper my bevel won't start walking off into the distance on it's own, LOL. I do bevel toward me well except when I don't :-) And da*m I want one of those coolies with the bass on it, LOL. I love bass fishing, and now I'm in VT. and I can't prove it, but I don't think they have a single bass in this state. so I sit at these babbling brooks and watch my artificial worm come toward from casting upstream and then go by me downstream. But still I've never believed fishing had anything to do with fish. Not that an occasional bite isn't fun, but to me it's about the quiet except for the frogs, birds, and the plop of my worm. You can keep your index finger on the line right above the reel so you can watch all the wildlife, and let your mind rest and heal from everyday crap. So my first 50 bucks goes to you for a fishing cooly, and then 10.00 for a 12 pk. and I'll take a couple cold ones with me, and put them in your cooly and rest my mind. Thanks Terry for your help. And maybe you can't draw but you do a mean bass as well as a horse (and a killer guitar). -
The "waylon Rose" Leather Telecaster Guitar Hand Made
DoubleC replied to Leatherbaron's topic in Guitar Straps
Those are beautiful. And you are so tactful since i was expecting a critique and you Texas two-stepped right on out of that, LOL. Guess it was mine you've been seeing and saying, HUH? Oh well I'll just keep on keeping on (I'm not selling this, LOL, this is my practice until someone is dumb enough to order a custom tack set from me and I have to pay someone else to make it.) Do you do tack sets? ROFL. Want to start building up a base of people I can send orders to in a pinch. Warmly, Cheryl -
The "waylon Rose" Leather Telecaster Guitar Hand Made
DoubleC replied to Leatherbaron's topic in Guitar Straps
Well Terry Double C is the name of my business. I started it first and then thought I'd learn to do leather work, LOL. You know in the spare time the words getting out. I would love to see your horse heads because right now my proudest project is called 'In the eye of a horse.' and the second one is a horse I drew from mine and mentally removed the halter and saddle, and right now I'm working on another one from a different angle. I'm getting ready to practice a background on it, I mean actual images because someone here is helping me with that. I would love your advice and I'd love to see your things. I guess I'll just slam you with it all, LOL. My progression on the eye from one to 4, and the pic I took it from, and the two horses and the pics I took them from. The last one is just beveled (badly, sigh) but any pointers I will take. Criticize the Hades out of them, I don't mind anyone doing that to my work as long as they don't start criticizing me :-) The ones you've wondered what they were? Probably mine, LOL. -
I have been following your posts. You do not lack for trying, but at times I see you are flying blind. I do have a extra set of Stohlman Making leather cases. Have been looking for a someone that would really put them to use. You are the one for them. If you can just pay postage. I will put them in the mail in the morning. If you send me your address by PM You have my private e-mail. Elliot That is so nice of you, I would be happy to have them and pay the postage. Although I'm sorry I couldn't until the 3rd. I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier too, but I dozed off yesterday afternoon and forgot to undoze. I do that sometimes when I'm really stressed and for all the jokes flitting around is not a fun way to live. But that's just Friday so I will leave the saddle making and case making alone until then if you don't mind if I wait until Friday. I will send you my address Elliot. Thank you so much. Cheryl

I was thinking the day after might be a good time to start, LOL

See? and I say I can't focus, ROFL

You're very right there Sylvia. I told Rick this earlier, and said I wasn't making excuses for flitting around, it just was what it was. And Allen's been there helping through everything. You should see what I do around the house. I went to look for one of my leather water containers the other day and realized I was standing with the fridge open, listening to myself tell me what I wanted to do for the day. The container wasn't even in THAT room, LOL. Well I don't have to tell you Syl, you've been right there on the road with me. However, I am going to try my best not to start a saddle tomorrow, LOL. But I've had a lot of people be really good to me on here, you included. And Allen, like some of the rest of us know what it's like to try and make do with what we have because we can't have it all today. But we're all gonna make it!!!!
-
Well I did read the tutorials and threads here, LOL but must not have absorbed much. Thanks for all your help Allen, here and other threads. We're gonna rock one of these days (well at least you are). Cheryl
