The different "types" of pineapple knots are very different though...the one I did last night doesn't look anything like the one here. Sure would like to know specifically which knot this is. I find it hard to believe that no one can name it, given the expertise on here. That leads me to think it's another one of those "secrets".
-
Sure wish I could find a good tutorial for this one...spent most of the entire day today scouring the internet and YouTube for one. Nothing useful found. I did finish that four pass type 3 pineapple knot and it does not look the same as this one. Can someone please tell us if this is a type 1 (or some other type) and what the base knot is? 5Lx4B? 7Lx6B? Something else?
-
Well, *I* do. Good to know they do crap like that...just reinforces my decision to avoid them under all circumstances.
-
Care to tell the rest of us who "that" place is so that we can avoid them, please??
-
I don't think that will work as it wouldn't follow the same pattern...hard to explain, but doing it that way would basically make another run parallel to the first one, but not following the same pattern. That probably doesn't make any sense...I'd need to do it both ways on a mandrel and show you the difference to explain it better.

You can actually sort of track first class international packages using the Customs form number. It will not be acceptable by PayPal for proof of delivery, but at least you can usually see where it is and when it's finally delivered. I've been shipping this way for a very long time now and that's how it's worked for me. I've also found that first class international can take anywhere from two weeks to six months, so...make sure your buyer knows this before they just opt for the cheapest method. I've had them tell me to ship it first class international and then nag me constantly asking when it's going to be delivered, starting three days after I shipped it...those, I do not sell to anymore.

Yeah, I still need the O/U so if anyone can confirm the links on the last post of the first page are for the same knot, I would appreciate it. Also need to know how to get two colors together, alternating...the links to the tutorial I found alternate colors every string instead of every two strings.

Is this the same knot? http://pineappleknot...g-90281932.html http://pineappleknot...g-90295289.html http://pineappleknot...g-90544613.html If so, how do you get two lines of each color instead of every color alternating, one per row? (Course...these were done by the same guy that did the one I tried to use for two weeks that never worked...so who knows...)

I think I have the three pass one down now. The over/under list in the link in my first post in that thread was complete trash. I watched the YouTube video posted in the thread and was able to do it and transcribed the correct O/U in my notebook. I'd love to move on to the four-pass like this one... Also, just tied the Horn knot for the first time just now. OK, well if anyone else can point me to a good tutorial (or at least the over/under pattern) for this knot, I'd really appreciate it.

That's neat! I might have to "borrow" from that...

Looks like a large/long turkshead knot to me...though the pic is so tiny, it's hard to tell for certain...now that I look at it again, I think I've seen it in the ABOK...I will go look through mine and see if I can find it...I just looked through it and it could also be some type of whipping. Really hard to tell from such a small pic. If you want to do it yourself, I would recommend reading through the threads I've posted in this section as I am focusing on learning turkshead knots too. I think you may find it is more complicated than it looks...it was, for me.

Leatherpownder, is that a type 1 4-pass pineapple knot or type 3? Can you recommend a tutorial for that one, please?
-
Yeah. Upload it to the gallery and then post a link to it here. Or use photo bucket, etc...or post a link to a pic of it somewhere else.

INCORRECT third pass, per link in my first post: Up O2 U2 O2 U2 Down O2 U2 O2 U4 Up O2 U2 O2 U3** Down O2 U2 O2 U5** Up O2 U2 O2 U3** Down O3*** U2 O2 U5** Up O3*** U2 O2 U3** Down O3*** U3*** O2 U5** Up O3*** U3*** O2 U3** Down O3*** U3*** O3*** U5** Up O3*** U3*** O3*** U3** Down O3*** U3*** O3*** &Out CORRECT third pass, per the youtube video: (Starting directly to the right of original standing end) Up O2 U2 O2 U4 Down O2 U2 O2 U2 Up O2 U2 O2 U5 Down O2 U2 O2 U3 Up O2 U2 O2 U5 Down O3 U2 O2 U3 Up O3 U2 O2 U5 Down O3 U3 O2 U3 Up O3 U3 O2 U5 Down O3 U3 O3 U3 Up O3 U3 O3 U5 Down O3 U3 O3 Bury ends / finish. ...And I am still very irritated by this. I think I am going to have a drink when I get home.

Do you have a pic of what you're trying to do?

http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=21654 And here is the specific post referred to in that thread...you might try sending a PM and seeing if he still has the instructions he can email you... http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3611entry51981

I usually go outside when I need to do anything with dye...that and wear latex gloves.
-
I use white saddle soap with roo also...except the crappy stuff I got from Springfield never softens no matter how much you use on it. Works great on the drum-stuffed roo I have though. I haven't used rawhide much, but I usually soak it with water, then put it in a ziploc bag in the fridge for a while.

Ok, is this correct??? ...because if so, those instructions in the link in my first post are very much incorrect. I was able to complete the knot using the youtube tutorial. Those overs/unders on the Dan Callahan tutorial I posted in the first post in this thread are just completely wrong and now I need to go transcribe them correctly for my notebook. And now I'm angry that I wasted almost two weeks trying to follow a very flawed set of instructions.

Tracym -- If I've understood the books I've read correctly, you basically continue the pattern right on top of the standing end, running it under three strands (at least), then cut the excess flush. ...again -- if I'm understanding all these books correctly.
-
Ok, so I tried following this video -- and it is not anything like the O/U counts given in the original link to the tutorial I posted in the fist post...at all...not even close. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I was pretty much able to follow the video, but it was really hard to see in some parts. I'm going to try again when I get home today. What I've done with the third pass is almost presentable, but there are a couple of errors...but at least it looks a lot better than what happened when I tried to follow the overs and unders in the link in the first post.
-
Ok, great...thank you for checking them for me. Hopefully, the pics will help...I'm probably going to try to memorize that video too...maybe that'll help...
-
Pics would be great... If someone that knows what they're doing could please go through the steps in the link in my first post to verify that they're correct, I'd really appreciate that. If I knew what I was doing and someone else asked me to do that for them, I would do it to help them. Thanks.

That is really nice...how do you dye your rawhide? What size strings are those?
-
Anyone have any other advise? It is still not working -- I am able to do the first two passes fine with no problems and it looks great. Then all sorts of unholy hell breaks loose on the third pass.
