  1. This is the thing. I don't quite know how they work their bulk prices in so I am completely ignorant to the fact. You get something from Herman oak and they tell you how much you need to buy to get it at said price. With wicket and craig you have to tell them exactly what you want so they can tell you what they will discount. Almost like there is no said list of rules they go by. I mean, I guess it could get difficult if someone was to order a mix of different tanages and we are pretty fortunate that they even go out of their way to sell us singles. I may be projecting because I know I am a little guy but I always feel like they are "in the air" with time frame and such that I wonder if they just take a guess because Im really just a small guy and a waste of time to check. Again, it may just be me. Its pretty hard though when u are not a retailer but rather a craftsman because the finances are not always a month advance of ordering. Plus, its rare I even know what weight I am going to need. Since I make so much different stuff. Again, I'm not trying to put them down because I am certain us small guys are a pain in their ars. I guess its just a matter of getting up the dollars to get bulk so that you can figure in the time frame better. Being new to them I am testing out their stuff slowly. Is there a salesman there that works with leather though? You know, someone whom can answer questions without sounding like they are guessing?
  2. Which sales person do you work with at Wicket and Craig and what is it you like about them?
  3. Ever find out the differences between the antiques? The place I normally buy from no longer has the paste but rather and antique dye. ??
  4. Burnishing ink:This is something I had never used. Any reviews on it? Is it a dye or stain? Is it something I use instead of a spirit or oil based dye? feibing's antique dye: I normally usethe paste. On SLC website I was unable to find the paste but have found antique dye. Is this used the same? Pro/cons vs. paste? Black resolene: would I be correct to assume this would be as a seelant over black dye?
  5. One thing you can do is to cut it off at the bend and use another piece of leather for the buckle. Glue both ends and fold it around the top and flesh side of the collar/belt stitch/rivet it into place. This way the cracked part is hidden and you have an other layer on top holding the buckle.
  6. Nice!! Im going to have to do some good ol research
  7. Casting. I ended up finding a forum that discussed it. Thank you. Do you cast the bronze?
  8. Thinking of starting to make my own buckles. Thoughts, nickle and pewter, some sort of tin alloy seems to be the best way to start at learning. Does anyone know if the chemical reaction with the vegetable tanned leather of these metals will effect it in a negetive way? Would the buckles need to be plated?

    Letter stamps

Looking for small 3-4mm letter stamps. I tried the ones used for metal jewelery but they leave a (oxidizing?) mark on the leather. Turns a bit green real quick.
  11. The front pocket wallet design on "leathercraft library" may be what u are looking for. Of corse it is for people who like deep pockets. I have one and put it in my front pocket only a few times but it works fine. The idea behind it is that it has the curved edge that curves with the design of the pocket. I made a diff interior with it than the "LL" has. The curved part is all shape and no practicality however would be a perfect place for a snap to where no cards are present. I added an outside pocket for change or a card.

    Table

Maybe this is an odd question but.... I been working on a smaller table and nothing is more of a pain when it comes to cutting off a big hyde. The floor? Yes, but Im trying to keep the leather clean and not break my back nor my bank account. This comes to my question. Whats the best way to find one of those big wooden tables that dont brake the bank? Do you just make your own?
  13. I am sure there are many factors in how long it takes to get an order. On average, if they said its in stock but just needs to be split, how long does it normally take to ship from wicket and craig. I usually get leather shippedbin a few days from other places so I want to be sure Im not being un fair. Its been a week so far.
  14. Sure wish there was some size between the medium and large.
  15. Is there anything you wouldn't use say, the bar saddle soap (fiebings) for as opposed to the paste? Whats the take on kiwi brand? It seems for edging most people arebusing paste. Why not the bar?
  16. Would be great if there was a list of people, with the area they live in, that can show us some technical sewing machine skills. I live in Asheville NC with a cowboy 4500 and before I mess it all up it would be great to learn how to go around small gussets and set up the different plates. Honestly, I know there are detailed forums about it here but the fact is is Im not the best at reading and learning. More of a handson type guy/girl . Would rather pay to learn to do it right and learn the mistakes rather than screw up days trying to fix a jacked up machine I have no clue about.
  17. Im not sure how all the metal engraving works but in complete blindness it seems you may be able to put both engraving knowledge and leather tooling to work by empossing with plugs. In fact, I may be wrong but it seems the one with the horse may be embossed.
  18. Although I will not be attending this belt instructional, is there a mailing list or news letter sign in for any upcoming events I can sign up for?
  19. Is there something rather than foam that people use to stretch the embossing leather you put over the plugs? Something you can continue to use that wont be wasted? Clay? Putty?
  20. I believe his intentions were not to mislead, but to make. It sounds as if he, like many of us, are not quite sure of the difference in tannery methods only that we know it is filled with oils and waxes. Reasonable question, especially since I have seen tooled motorcycle seats being sold off as briddle leather. If I am not mistaken, you cant tool bridle leather.
  21. I am tooling a 2 person badlander design seat. The old model used staples. If I were to use staples on the veg tan, wont they oxydize? Is there a specific staple to use? If not staples, what would be best on such a big seat?
