I am tooling a 2 person badlander design seat. The old model used staples. If I were to use staples on the veg tan, wont they oxydize? Is there a specific staple to use? If not staples, what would be best on such a big seat?

Am I Wrong In Asking To Return This Back Of Drum Dyed?
jrny4wrd replied to JerseyFirefighter's topic in All About Leather
Well, what you get should not be lied about. I never deal with liars however, I am not sure that if a company like SLC can tell a place, "hey only send me the best." Everyone has to get rid of the worse and this is why there is normally price diff. But they dont always have choice pic. I believe they buy in big lots. Now if they lie like I herd many do, screw em. Crooked business deserves a boot. -
← Motorcycles and Biker Gear Leatherworker.net » First Badlander Seat Order Reply jrny4wrd's Photojrny4wrd Today, 08:24 AM Question. They want it to be all black. Uhgg... Anyhow, concidering getting the drum dyed from W&C however I am unsure if this would be the best rout for a bike seat. Does it check alot? Will it be flexible enough? Whats the best weight? My other thought was to use a make the thicker weight (5/6oz?) being tooled, vinagaroon it on the top seat and useing the thinner drum dyed for the side wall since I would not want the roon touching the bike. Thoughts?

I'm Told That This Does Not Actually Exist..

Its like a free bouncy ride the whole time. A few knees in the face to teach them the ups and downs sometimes hurt. Its a whole life experience in a blocks walk. -
Anybody ever order from them before? Curious because I do not want to get ripped off.

Am I Wrong In Asking To Return This Back Of Drum Dyed?

Must be hard to sell leather. The stores get all kinds of different stuff, I am sure. Although we, as artisians, can choose to keep and use different quality hides, the stores buy a bunch at a time. They have to do their best to work with what they have spending less money to make it right. Sad to say, someone has to occasionally get crap they get because poop rolls downhill and everyones paying for it. I think if springfield was a tannery it would be easier to say they are not consistant but since they are not a tannery its just important that they know you will not take it if its not the best and therefor they will never waist the money sending it. -
What weight tooling leather would you use on the double seat? I shortly have my first badlander to do. They want black so I am concidering buying the drum dyed black from w&c to tool on fearing that if I dye black it will check too much and vinegaroon is probably too dangerous to put on a bike. I am liking angelus a tad better than fiebings but I am not sure why. They both work good but have some diff colors. I use pro eco flow on stuff That wont be getting rained on other than taking it out of a purse in the rain right quick. (Clutches and such) I use angelus acrylics on things that take little beating or wear. Its a really excellent acrylic though and I trust it could take a beating. I have used white on wallets and it still seem to be holding up. Eco flow antique is awesome however it does not have that waxyness that feibings has and will give anything blocked a yellowish orange tint.

So, I had seen someone advertising their tooled, dyed, antiqued, beautiful leather work as bridle leather. Not yet having much experience with bridle leather I have to ask, Is it possible to dye it? Isn't it filled with waxes and such? Can you tool and dye and then add the waxes to make it "Bridle" leather? I would think it would ruin the tooling.

Funny/sad Story About Tandy Leather...

The craziest thing is if you send a message via email, itl just go right to the store. -
I sure have a hard time with belt embossing rollers. Many people dont understand that they are not the same as hand tooled and many people dont want to pay for a true hand tooled because the rolled belts are much cheaper in price. I guess we all need a quick buck though. I have a few stamps I use for quick production to add to stuff. Often I cut and tool around the items to bring it out more. Pretty sure this is a roller.

Best Type Of Leather For Belts? Best Conditioner?

Any store u buy from is retail price with everything. To get a discount because you are going to create and re-sell is a privaledge and a right. You cant go into any store and haggle so why should a company give everybody extra discounts? This would not only hurt their profit but it would also hurt people whom are actually trying to make a business/living from it do to the fact that that extra $5-20(project depending) may be the difference between msking theirselves or buying from you. Takes 5 minutes and worth a license or business id. -
If all you want is a fade you dont need an airbrush. Start at the edge and go all the way around with the dye on a sponge or fabric. As the dye lightens move towards the middle and press down lighter. You can also just put dye on the sponge or towel, wipe it on some card board until it fades and slowly use it from edge to center. A pattern for a typical tri-fold seems impossible to find. Even just the inside vs. back sizing. Im making one now. After they finally ship the leather I will work out the open length difference. Insides already made.
