This thingy here? Noooo I can´t - its also restored + functional - it´s from the 1950´s or 60´s Seems I like rescuing old things.

Hi Doru - I remember you once posted that you have a Mansfeld post bed machine you are about to restore and you have been looking for tension unit parts if I remember correctly. I will post some pictures of the accessories soon.

Haven´t even finished my Durkopp 18 patcher but I could not refuse this one. It´s a late 1800´s to early 1900´s Post Bed Machine made by ROBERT KIEHLE, Leipzig (ROKILEI). I unfortunately don´t find proper information on this manufacturer or machine model. I know there was a quite similar model made by CHRISTIAN MANSFELD , Leipzig. But that's it. This machine sit in a barn for at least the last 50 years. I bough it along with a Colibri patcher but no way to "rescue" it. its way way too rusted and casting cracked so I will try to safe some parts but the rest is not worth the work - too bad. The two are real bar finds. They came from a (at least) 3rd generation cobbler form the Hamburg area. The grandson of the original owner is still an active cobbler but machines have been sold by his (the current cobbler´s) son who is gathering some bucks for his first motor cycle. Fortunately the post bed machine came with bobbin winder, hooks, bobbins and needles. Needle system seems to be Sys. 88 or 657 like many other old cobbler machines like Colibri or Claes and Durkopp patchers are using. So that`s at least a good start... An issue is the foot pedal which is cracked and oddly repaired. Maybe I take the one form the Colibri if I can make it fit - time will tell. Not sure what I will do with it when it is restored - maybe a keeper but I don´t know yet since space is a issue and I still have to free some space for the Durkopp 18 I`m working on . Some pictures

funny little domestic sewing machine - well engineered - long lasting but no serious industrial strength sewing machine - you can sew some 96 thread with it - this is not a heavy duty machine for leather - by far not! You can sew "heavy" denim or some heavier canvas or garment leather but thats it.

I´m pretty sure! I have not seen a 29 (w/o K) on my side of the pond but they should be the same. 29 were made in the US and 29K in Kilbowie, Scotland. If you find parts list of either machine compare the part numbers.

BTW - the Singer 29K leaf springs are the same

Looks rather like a standard / small bobbin. I´m not sure but afaik the 345 has not been produced with large hook.

I swallowed the anger a while back already but when I look at the pictures I´m still a bit pissed. But its just a machine... The Class 18 was in production at least until 1943 so this one (or both) is / are not "that old". The model list of Dürkopp and Adler machines (see PDF attachment) show that there was a change in the needle system of the Class 18 in 1943 - they switched from Sys. 88 to Sys. 332 LONG - like the Adler 30-7 uses. I would guess my 1st machine (the one I restore) is from the mid to late 1930´s. I heard a story that the production of the Class 18 (and other machines of course) stopped because the plant has been destroyed during an allied air raid. But afaik that was in Sept. 1944 - maybe parts of the plant got hit during earlier air raids already because Durkopp also produced weapons and other armaments during WWII. 1st one with the hand crank is the earlier one cause it has a lower serial number. Just noticed even the machine castings have small differences. BTW - I think the Dürkopps must have been proud of his machine - the two crank knobs are made from porcelain and not plain wood. hist_kl.pdf

so far these are the damaged parts I discovered... Maybe there are a few more - I will find out when I start cleaning and reassembling everything.

So the only way to get the parts I need is a 2nd machine and after almost 1 year I finally have found one within 1 hr driving range. Unfortunately - this one is totally rusted and seized. but the good thing is it came with a stand. Some pictures: So I started restoring the stand first: Drawer was quite good it just needed a new bottom - obviously. Washed it out with soda solution took it apart put in a new bottom and assembled it again. On the Dürkopp logo is still is the original gold paint I just put clear coat on it. After I took apart the stand I de-rusted the screws washed off all the dirt and gunk in a bath of soda solution I painted the stand with Hammerite and put some clear coat on it - turned out quite nice...

The Dürkopp 18 is a quite unique patcher machine because it has a very narrow tip and can sew in very tight spaces other patchers probably would not be able to reach. It also has not an oscillating / elastic hook like all other patchers. Instead it has a "boat shuttle" in a fixed position and a "thread hook" which grips the upper thread pulls it back and thread slides around the shuttle and is forming the knot with the bottom thread (basically). This Video shows is quite good (not my video): Almost 1 year ago I found a quite rare Dürkopp 18 patcher head on Ebay. This actually was the first I have seen with a front crank - all others I have just had the side wheel. That was the main reason I bought it. So far - so good. Bought the machine - paid it - seller shipped it and that where my journey starts... The seller seemed to be not very clever - though I gave him clear instruction how to pack up the machine he did not listen and even worst - he shipped the machine up side down (I told him to put arrows on the box). He put the shipping label on the wrong side (bottom side) of the box so the machine traveled flipped up side down and its obvious what would happen - the delicate top parts broke and the needle bar bent. Needles to say that parts for this machine are no longer available This is what I have bought: And this is how the machine arrived: I disassembled the machine to see what parts actually broke / bent and that's how it went under the work bench and started collection all forts of dust and dirt again for almost 1 year.

Thanks Matt Update: This is the machine mounted to the base plate and the flat bed attachment which is included. FBA is not a master piece but has a nice smooth surface, is lightweight and functional. The base plate is made of the same material and due to the rough and enlarged contact face on the bottom side it prevents the machine from moving when hand cranking pretty good. Forgot to mention - in the Videos the machine sews with #20 metric thread which is equal to # 138 US.

3rd one is a Durkopp 207 - will post pictures and description in the days to come. I can add more pictures and a Video of either machine if wanted - no problem att all. Send me PM if interested.

Hey Peter - this also is a very nice restoration. I´d like to see some more detailed pictures if possible.I already admired you A1. If you don´t mind could you post some good pictures of the flat bed attachment. I´d like to make one for my DVSG / BUSMC #6 and it should be as close to the original as possible. Al, and if you don´t mind could you post some close up pictures of the A1 bobbin winder please. My A1 unfortunately came w/o the winder. THANK YOU both!

I have accumulated to many machines I do not use they all have to go now and this is one of them. Adler 30-7 patcher machine (head only) in very nice original condition - still has the original paint (not repainted) and original gold foil decals. Machines is very clean and has no rust (well maybe a few spots) and is very smooth running The 30-7 has a higher lift than the standard 30-1 or 29K and has a much larger hook and bobbin. Pinions in gearbox are like new / very nice and tight. Hook is also very good - has a nice sharp tip. It can sew 10mm leather easily and still has some clearance (will post a Video). Excellent stitch length of approx 4.5mm - 4.9mm - but will check that again. Machine is fully functional and comes with: 20 needles 332 LONG 3 Bobbins Bobbin winder (of course) Copy of user manual Copy of parts list Flat bed attachment w. adjustable feet.
