  1. Beautiful work Monica!! A few questions if I may... -How many stitches per inch? -Are you using a stitching chisel/iron? If so, which one? -How wide are the straps on the camera strap? Thank you and keep up the good work!
  2. Nice! I just made my first pair a few months ago.....they can be pretty labor intensive!
  3. hey Bryan, I like the design What are the dimensions?
  4. Like Tinker said, just make sure that the area being folded is wet.......the leather will not crack on you. I recently made a halter.......18 different folds in 8/9 oz leather and thicker and not one crack PS skiving the leather can help, but thin leather can and will crack as well so the main thing is wet it down
  5. nice work!! do you go all the way thru with the iron? or do you use an awl to poke the holes all the way thru? if you do use an awl, what kind/size is it? thank you!!
  6. hey friends, what is the best way to patch up/repair a torn leather car seat? if anybody has done this, or could share any advice i'd really appreciate it!! thank you in advance :D
  7. thanks fan, unfortunately that's not an option because it needs to be a floating keeper in this case thank you, I had forgotten about a lap skive but seems like it would be the best way to do this thank you!!
  8. Thanks, yeah I believe that is the route that I'm going to go as well.....thank you!!
  9. hey friends, I have made a few belt keepers and was wondering what is your way of stitching them? I was using tiger thread but the knot seems to want to come undone (maybe because the thread is waxed?).......anyway, what I started doing is not tying a knot at all, but butrning the ends of the thread to prevent the thread from slipping out.... does anybody else do this? I really want to stitch the keepers and not use an ugly staple....any recommendations? Thanks
  10. thanks everybody for the advice I took a chance and bought the gorilla glue gel.....scuffed up the leather and the plastic real good, and made sure both surfaces were clean and free of any leather debris, dirt, and wiped the plastic with some rubbing alcohol to clean it.......i applied the glue around the perimeter of the plastic case, made an "x" of glue in the middle, then spread it around with a Q-tip.......when I stuck the plastic to the leather it was already beginning to set.....looks like this solved the issue, but i suppose only time will tell..
  11. Thank you, I'm in California....the wonderful state that bans anything that works LOL...it looks like the only thing available around here is gorilla glue :/
  12. Thank you for sharing. Renia does not seem to be available where I'm at.....is there a chance that any two part epoxys would work?
  13. hey friends, recently I made a phone case for a friend, where I contact cemented a plastic snap back phone cover to the flesh side of some vegtan. At first, the contact cement bond seemed to be normal (like a pack of elephants couldn't tear the plastic from the leather). That was a couple months ago. Yesterday, my friend told me that the glue bond had broken completely. How do you guys bond plastic to leather and get the bond to stay? Two part epoxy? Any suggestions would be appreciated greatly. Thank you!!!
  14. Thank you!! Thank you for sharing. About the burnishing part.....I wonder how others accomplish this.....I'm thinking maybe after dyeing and finishing the edges, just get a damp sponge and take it to the flesh side (carefully not soaking the burnished edges.....
  15. Beautiful work!! What weight leather is it lined with? (What's behind the inlay?) Thanks!!
  16. Thank you for sharing Thor!!! Much appreciated :D
  17. Hi friends, I was wondering, when weaving cartridge loops, for either a gun belt or a belt slide, I have noticed that most people recommend wetting the strap of leather before weaving them around the cartridges... If this is the case, do you recommend dyeing, and finishing the strap that holds the loops before wetting them/weaving them through? Thank you for sharing
  18. Thank you for the tutorial...a couple questions if I may...1). What kind of splitter do you have? What weight calf skin do you begin with (before running it through the splitter)? Thank you!!!
  19. Those look fantastic!!! If I may ask, what weight of leather did you use?
  20. hey friends, I want to make a couple pairs of slobber straps to donate to a charity but I don't have enough material for the pattern of slobber straps I have (they are 9"x2.25" when folded).... can anyone suggest dimensions for a much more compact slobber strap that would still be functional? thank you!!
  21. hey WildBill, please see the image attached to this message. Clearly, Snow-Proof has petroleum distillates Art, what do you recommend or use to weatherproof your leather items? I'm wanting to prep a halter for hard use and heavy weather for winter/rain/snow....thanks in advance for any advice you can share!!!
  22. Hey friends, I have read that petroleum based products are bad for leather....I noticed that Fiebings Snow Proof contains petrolatum (not sure if it's considered to be a petroleum distillate).... any advice? Thank you!!
  23. I hadn't thought of this, and I'll give it a try! Thank you Thank you Penguin! Hey Chuck, thank you for the advice....I don't use a groover because I hate that tool with a passion......best way for a newb like me to ruin a near-finished project....I have seen hand stitched items with long stitch runs where there is no visible spot or obvious spot where the thread has been changed....this has puzzled me for a while now..... btw I love your work!!! :D :D I do cast the thread on each stitch and I've noticed it really locks the threads into place
