Wow that's awesome, wish my Sheridan was that good. If I look real careful I can see one tiny error in the basket weave, but I don't think most would ever notice. Real nice job, give yourself a pat on the back from me. Some day I hope to be this good, Garry.
  3. Thanks Halitech, I have done a couple since with cold water, and no problem. Also the leather is not near as stiff when finished. I'm still learning appreciate the feed back.
  4. Roq, I tried the mold again with cold water this time, the hot water seems to have been the problem. No staining at all. I didn't know you could form leather without warming it up first. I am also going to give my mold a couple more coats of lacquer as you suggest Roq, thanks, Garry.
  5. I am having a little problem with my work, and don't know who to ask for help. The project is wet forming leather for a small pouch in a two part form. When I pull my forms apart there is a lot of staining on part of the leather. My forms are maple, with a coat of lacquer. I am soaking the leather in fairly hot water before I put them in the form. Then I am using some very modest heat to help dry them in the form. I will attach photos so you can see the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
  6. My experience as well, gums up your needles and awl. It seems to hold well, and is handy to use though.
  7. Wow these look great so clean, and I really like the finish as well. Guess I'm going to have to try one.
  8. Thank you Monica, that means a lot coming from someone who does some amazing stiching.
  9. Thanks snubbyfan I do need to do a lot more. I checked out a couple of your videos, really like your stiching one. I always like to see someone doing it different than the traditional way. As long as it looks good it's ok in my book. I don't awl all the holes at once, but I do around five or six at a time. Not coordinated enough to hold awl and needles and pliers at the same time. You need a stiching pony, they are awesome.
  10. Thanks Terry that is exactly the information I needed.
  11. Dwight, I bought this" http://www.tandyleather.ca/product/tejas-waxed-thread " It doesn't have a tag on it for size. I like the look and size, but just wanted to try the Tiger thread everyone seems to be using, but don't know what size to get. Thanks for replying anyway I appreciate that.
  12. I need a little help with my thread size here. I have been using the Tejas waxed thread from Tandy for a while now. The main problem with it is it's a little heavy on the wax. I don't know the size as it doesn't say on the spool, and there is no size in the description in the catalogue. I would like to try some tiger thread but don't know what size to get. I am usually working six stiches per inch on two or three layers of 8 oz leather. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to what size of Tiger thread to use? I live in the NWT Canada so I have to order everything in, can't go to the store and take a look. Thanks for your help.
  13. venator, no I live in the Great White North, NWT, and it is white again today with a fresh 8 inches on top of the 14 inches we already had. My closest store is Edmonton for leather so I get them to put stuff aside for me, then when I go down or one of my neighbors goes down they pick it up for me. Shipping up here is way out of line. Any way hope you like Toronto, at least you will have a bigger market.
  14. It's 4 oz. Seems just right. I got it at the Tandy store in Edmonton.
  15. Looks good, I like the snap idea never seen it on a watch strap before.

Awesome job, really like the lacing much better than stiching.
  17. Thanks Tugadude, I think I may have the wrong tape, I will try the Tandy stuff. Do you use the permanent type or the repositional type?
  18. Here is my first shaving kit or actually kit of any kind. I made it for a friend who couldn't find anything decent way up here. I never realized how much stiching there was to this, and I can tell you my pinkies are real sore. Also I realize I now need a good pricking iron and a better awl. It's out of Al Stohlman's book. I used this new tape to hold it together instead of glue, but found it gummed up the awl and needles. Anyone else ever used it? It was convienient, but I think I will go back to good old contact cement. Next one will be laced.
  19. From the album: Bigfoote

My first try at a case.
  20. She actually sent me some small samples as I had never actually used kangaroo. Really nice stuff, very strong. Just like everything you have to pay for the best, but I think this is worth it.
  21. You can double up thinner pieces. Use a good layer of silicone glue between the layers, works great and helps with the noise. My first slab was three 12 x 12 x 1/2 inch granite floor tiles glued together, worked great. Also go visit some of the counter-top places in Edmonton, they sometimes have chipped pieces they will sell at much reduced prices or sometimes even give away.
