  1. I don't know why I didn't see this before. Very nice! I'm sure she'll enjoy having a real belt.
  2. Thank you, Alvetjarn! I appreciate the kind words. It actually fits a 24-70 and a 50mm 1:1.4 lens (not at the same time, obviously), which are our favorite lenses. I need to make a flash case to go with it. I plan to make the flash case with a clip on the back so that you can just clip it onto your belt. If we were as into photography as we used to be, I'd just make an over the shoulder lens case that could hold another two lenses. You know, the way a quiver sits, but not shaped like a quiver. You only want so many bags impeding your movement. And thank you Wrumble - I'm not really sure what the ideal finish is, but I used neatsfoot oil and then waxed it. I'm letting it darken in the sun as well. I really like the golden caramel look of undyed and aged leather.
  3. Wow, those are beautiful cases. Great tooling, braiding, everything.
  4. As it happens, my husband happens to work with 3D printer maker bots, but actually modeling the camera in CAD would take a ridiculous amount of time. He says if you had the CAD, it'd take $20.00 of materials (plus whatever time it took), but if you don't have the CAD, it'd be a thousand dollar project.
  5. Nice case! I wouldn't sneeze at getting that for a wedding gift.
  6. LOL, yeah, well, it still seems to work. Good thing. Kevin, I did a bit of a hack job on those corners, but it definitely looks better than it did, hack or no. I added two little pieces of leather and sewed them in and glued them. Next time I'll avoid the whole scenario. Thanks, Leatherbaron!
  7. I finally finished the camera bag I started a few weeks back. This one is for personal use, which is a good thing because I learned a lot from making it, and it's certainly not perfect! Over all though, I'm not at all displeased with how it turned out. It fits our camera well (I added 1/2 inch board underneath the camera when I formed the leather), and even fits the bigger lens. I'm looking forward to hauling it along for many hikes. Cheers, Monica
  8. Really cool! I've never seen basketweave kind of pattern in the third picture. I really like it.
  9. I believe their bottom layer is all one piece, which allows them to dispense with the three cornered edge altogether. A much better solution.
  10. Ah yes, I see what you mean. I went back and found a bigger picture on that website and finally saw how they dealt with it. (http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-80923275928354_2272_9466493) Thanks! I'm going to restitch it, and next time I'll just do what they did.
  11. Hi all, I've been working on a camera bag, but I've run into a problem. The seam where the three corners meet at the bottom of the bag looks really tacky, and I'm not sure what I should do, or what I should have done to avoid the problem. Any advice would be appreciated! Monica
  12. Sweet shoe! I'm interested in shoe making, but I can't get away to take a class -- is there a book you would recommend? Edit: After I asked this, I looked more closely at your website and found your "reference" section, which answers my question. Thanks!
  13. Nice! I really like the decorative stitching as well.
  14. Yes, I thought of making my own buck. I assume they are a bit larger than the camera, as well. Honestly, I was being lazy. Hm, I guess I should stop putting off buying that book! Thanks! I appreciate it!
  15. My husband gave me a hand, and we molded the leather straight onto our Canon 5D Mark II with a 50 1:1.4 lens and lens hood. Which, of course, was our first mistake. As it turns out, you don't want it to be snug. The second mistake was molding the leather to the lens behind the lens hood. I'm not sure how we expected to pull it out! Further, we cut it off too short, so I was going to add another piece back on. Then I had to admit what I had been trying to ignore; that ominous sounding crack we heard when molding it was the lens hood coming loose. We molded it with a crooked lens hood, which made for a crooked line and a wonky bag. At some point, you have to cut your losses and start over. At least we learned a lot. On the next one, I'll just make a separate piece for the front and not try to mold the leather to the lens at all. We were trying to mold 9 oz leather. Was that a mistake? Any tips would be appreciated!
  16. Well, that's ridiculously awesome, as usual. Crazy!
  17. I like your art work -- especially the tree. Cool stuff!
