Brother LS2-B837 Sews Forwards But Fails in Reverse.
brmax replied to LunarConcepts's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I agree wait till monday. On a trouble shoot the issue sounds to start with tension change to a binding operation. Thats something we all have to struggle and learn to do. Or its seems in my cases anyway always the new task or weird materials make the need to change. I am hesitant in saying much on the reverse adjustment as im not familar, though it looks to be very similar to a singer 211 in looks. So im real curious as the procedureu Floyd -
This sounds terrible. Sorry I suggest contacting your dealer of purchase for best procedures, going forward. I think they may have insight with these issues more so and can instruct us in some ways to better deal with this. Floyd

I first learned on this 212 i picked up at auction. Never new anything before that. Always was looking for the 211 becuase the compound feed but they all got away. I changed the needle sys to 135x17 for canvas and actually it rocks! I still keep an eye out for the 211 especially some talked about lately with the big bobbin i just sense they are smooth runners like this 212. Floyd

No reason that i can see. I think you know well enough and possibly with more insight. That from hand sewing the art of having the knot or loc in the center of the stitch is the ideal so if that is concealed alls good. Floyd

Though the consew there has reverse lever. It looks like my 212 singer, double needle and mine is not compound or walking foot style. A great needle feed machine though. A compund walking foot machine is needed. Then the other stuff needs addressed. Floyd

Theres no need to import honestly, we have professionals on the site here that are the actual dealers around the world. There are some ads above if you have pop ups turned on for this site, and many others that frequent to help technically. The 135-17 needle mentioned is a clasification they somehow refer to as ( system ). This is considered canvas, upholstery, light and some medium leather. These items are running a 69-138 thread size. The bigger threads used for looks or serious belting, holsters and saddle type goods are used in a bigger machine with a bigger needle (system) maybe a 794. This is a short refference i mentioned, so looking just above in this sew machine area the articles cannot be better explained so welcome to the site and when ya get a chance have a look. good day Floyd

I think one of the dealers must have this stuff on a roll in their shop. I found this wick number for the 1508, 1510 machine head. It doesnt show a length and maybe enough for the machine? I could not see other numbers for the rope type as this thats in the tube. CQ2020000-00 Good day Floyd

With the 441 types as i recall I had read in several post of some issues with threads and many times these post had mention Twisting and general a pita. As an experienced person addressed before the use of the top thread guide ( an option ) somtimes, can be used to remedy the thread problem or at minimum help this. This i read before, getting my used Cobra and with a spool of old/sun tightened thread. Needless to say i had a few issues. This i fixed with a new spool and in this ordeal. I recalled the old post and re-read and followed up with a thread post for the 441. Thanks Wiz Something i had particular concern with that some of you gurus can as usual help with and did. Anyway noticing the twist in the stitch "difference" from top and bottom side. Clearly way more on top, so much so even i was curious and so noticed with the thread post on top this actually helped. Thanks Wiz, appreciate it well this is like standin at short stop with glove on hip and other hand as well on hip spittin sunflower seeds, and im outa seeds. But you can bet im not gonna kumbyya with whoever on the pitchers mound thank you all Floyd

Cowboy CB227R - comparable sewing machines?
brmax replied to DanielPNW's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
You have the option with the dealers in some banner ads above for some pretty good choices. There is a nice cobra 26 thats been talked about recently, and photo shows to have a reducer pulley for a very slow stitch. Imo this should be considered seriously. I wished it was avail this time last year, you can bet there would be one here. Whatever you choose, ya been making some nice products so good luck and Good day Floyd -
Cowboy CB227R - comparable sewing machines?

I guess a good or better start is helping others know what your medium leather is. But just heading to the machine part the reducer is going to be an extra option on any flatbed purchase. Good day Floyd -
Walking Foot Material Feed Problem -- Shifting
brmax replied to JJDD's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Welcome to the site Jeannie This is an interesting article with some great tips. So to start i should say first that checking the bar that the presser foot is mounted to for excess slack sideways or other directions is worth noting. Other than the above The presser feet i have purchased in recent times are seriously lacking in mounting alignment, their bottom surfaces not being level and what bothers me also is the inconsistent height. I have honestly had to rework or tune every single one i have purchased, a pita! What i can say i found is the very reason "i think" why some factory original items are so much more costly. ( i would hope ) So If the machine parts are sound and little to no slack i would assume the feet as they are secure in mount can be tuned, or the bottom surface sanded with some sand paper of the wet dry kind in 400 first and followed with 600 grit. Its a task that requires ultra care sheilding other parts from the grit. This can be done with tissue placement over the hook areas and vacuming prior to removing the sheilding. Theres not a lot of grit but a clear need to be aware of. First i try to position the feed dog surface to be flat level with other area surrounding surface. When in that position secure the pulley wheel with a rubber door stop or eraser Moving on, and i know this is long winded, sorry. Anyway i would always just put the grit side facing the feet and pull the sheet through carefully taking turns both ways. It may take some coaxing or even backing off the top pressure tension some times so as not to tear the paper, get a few sheets. After 8-10 times take a look and try to keep the feed dog level with other surface. A Tip is to color bottom side of presser feet with say a sharpie to verify where exactly it is being sanded and not equal. I have done this an afterward without needle at first run a sheet of paper under as sewing noting if paper was running true. This can be a long a tedious task, and it does work. I was and still am happy if a typing sheet can run true its length, this is again tedious if many but amazingly it works. Cording feet can be tough but done Following that this other basic top presser tension adjustment can help if one of the two layers seem to get longer or shorter. Using two layers of same 2-3 feet long material sew these "without" thread if they appear to be matched in length at end of sew Great! If not one can adjust the presser tension on top and this can seriously help to keep the layers perfectly even. Good day Floyd- 20 replies

Whoa! Why may i ask do you need another motor, if you have one from the purchase.. I should have read into this more and ask better questions Im sorry. if your motor is broke were ok, then to replace. if to go slower then we should totally look at the; speed reducer options instead. again my bad, so can you clarify if your motor is broke. I promote the keysew.com motor, and on that brand would not purchase anywhere else. btdt. There are others available nowadays many are available, but addressing the above first ? possibly is best step forward. Floyd

Your welcome! You should mention to them your sew machine. As they have v-belts and that machine style takes a much longer one because its so tall on the bench being a cylinder arm style. By the way is this a new table or bench instalation, curious because motor mounting position. Its Friday! Floyd

I have this brand in 2 older models with one being this new model 6000 and like all of them them. What is your project thickness, obviously below 7/16 but its a good point to consider, if the top end i suggest the following also. Additionally one can get a box style pulley speed reducer, or the older pedestal type both are great. But this is a great start for a motor. http://store.keysew.com/catalog/product/f12bce0ab9754bbc84a8055aaf375ffc Floyd

No offense i often see some water base products as whatever!, So when they combine with the "cleaned oils, greases" the solution is not the proposed clean free many think it "was". And so now the disposal is the very same procedures. There is something to use and it can be mineral spirits (not the white crap) or an actual automotive general parts cleaner which is like kerosene and some of these are hi-temp within flash degree requirements so to be somewhat safe ( in controlled ) stations. My self would skip the water base anything The parts cleaner i purchase in bulk is about 5 bucks a gallon, they supply all the shops in town and have as mentioned different ratings dependent on locale, or business requirements. Just trying to help and dont mean to be rude, but spent a many dollars for over 30 years on these very products incoming and safe outgoing as required. Floyd Do you have a picture of these machines

You may have to resort to middle suppliers for "sets". This company in the link below is kinda new, 1802 They have made or supplied a few others. The supplier I use extensively in Marine type projects. They "to my knowledge " don't do sets, but can sell every size imaginable in different size bags. And it sounds like myself getting a large bag is the option. Some figuring on your part the size of stem lengths you need for thickness of products needs done. Some types of tools have ability to compress more and easier in situations so this I think can make my recommended size possibly different. I use a press n snap tool for edge work, and have mentioned it here before. Some have great tools and arbors for this so, with this if i can help i will try. edit: just curious how might the many members, inventory these type of products as a biz, this i seriously could use "any" help with. thanks http://www.dotfasteners.com/ good day Floyd

At first without understanding all the reasons. I would look at the safety clutch as a start point. If you need to totally remove/replace the belt, well this will likely require top shaft repairs so a good manual i agree. Floyd

Theres no doubt you did some homework and well! If you decide the 4500 first it looks as though your projects change levels. Im sure the machines will work out as your mentioned production and future, Its pretty cool to have all the family interested. Itsa hoot hearing the experience you see at the shows and very well done there. Cracks me up, So (let me look around) your saying as long as there is some dude stuff scattered amongst the chick stuff its a sellers showplace. I think you did some great homework, maybe consider consulting also your on a roll. Good choices and thanks for the tips Floyd

Do try to take great care of your present machine. There is always the option to sell outright and get another when ready. Some with the pulley options are bit more sought after, so good luck workin up some projects for now. Also keep us posted on any presser feet mods. Some of the leathers are crazy soft and get marked. later Floyd

Is the top of the pulley turning, coming towards the operator when started. Also what is the stitch length and setting if i can ask. Have a good day Floyd

Good job Jim Whats the material you put together there, looks pretty heavy both layers on the weave anyhow. Looks and sounds like your on a roll with the new machine, keep us posted on the future projects. Good day Floyd

I think selecting a part of the inventory you can produce now would be great. So just some good projects to get a run going. If the presser feet are diggin to much they may have to be filled in or replaced. Im not sure on any of their options but this can be discussed. Good day Floyd
