Sure looks like a great find. With the name recognition and general respect I give them its an excellent build. It may have model tricks of its own. So hopefully some other owners can jump in the conversation for a buyer on a mission good day Floyd

Uwe Hey thanks! for the video, it sure gives another perspective to look through. Besides i think to see that well the use of my hi-powr cheater glasses need found "again" As usual great work there Floyd -
Here is a place I went with though there are some others. It seemed pretty tough finding any coats brand in small quantites. Superior had good reviews and good service. I use 277 and not enough yet to make a big discussion but will stand up for them now. Good day there Floyd https://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/category/thread/bonded-polyester/?thickness=%23207

It may be easier if the thin leather you consider is tough, like one 1/8" leather. Not knowing what your projects are is a bit tougher. But anyway going from 1/2" or three quarter inch directly to some garmet or thin chap is going to take some machine adjustments. I put in 3/4 because half inch even requires thicker thread in leather than say thin outdoor garmet. A point to consider is if the thin stuff is using the big threads like 277, 346, and up. Here is where some of the saddle Pros could help in my opinion if indeed these are the shop focus. Good day there Floyd

You have done some great homework and made some good machine choices, i can only add and seriously believe this here reducer pulley setup will be as well a good investment in goodtimes. Good day Floyd https://www.google.com/search?q=hightex+box+type+speed+reducer+ht-sp03&client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjYyNSBs43UAhWm24MKHX6TA-sQ_AUICigC&biw=375&bih=559#imgrc=T1fNfQqQ0uxbVM:

Hey thanks Jason (homie) Trying to get all these things movin the same direction is starting to be work. Lucky to have a crowd to field all the parts n pieces questions. The big focus now is transfering to production versus shop build up. This is again different than previous carreer, so a step at a time. Im still not locked in with a seperate leather bench, on its own. good day Floyd

I have seen one like that 30 miles from me way back when i thought! i knew what i know today. I let the opportunity get away and so that thought keeps reminding me, like a turkey thinking it can get through a boxwire fence. Since then all my machines havent been in my State fwiw The known setup from Gregg is a big + thanks Uwe for posting the page, the machine would be a great asset to someones shop. Floyd

A few machines it took a long time to work up to. What I can say is there was a lot of great post i tried to figure out just what was being said in years past. In time it came together and so moving forward with some canvas projects and in time more leather projects. In these pics are a Juki 1508NH running 190 needle system, this is a brute, its a top load bobbin machine. Just beyond is a cylinder arm Juki 1341 running the 135x17 system. A machine very dear to collars, cuffs, and any boat ladders type crap going up through canvas. Besides all the bags and corners. It still sux trying to hold yards of canvas trying to work some od ball radar or ladder sleeves. Both machines using sew quiet servos 5000 and the cyl arm using a 6000 series i would like to refit both with pulley reduction system with the box style. These motors can punch some holes but as an old retired wrench, designing machines gear or pulley systems should be to keep at the medium, not stressing. I believe this would be best for heavy leather punchin. Taking a gander on back in the photo is a Cobra class 4, I picked up last year and so glad to have been part of that deal. Its ready for the big thread whenever thats needed, running 277 thread for now. I can say the site here has given me lots to think about, and many times my questions i can imagine the eye rolls! And cannot blame anyone honestly. But anyhow a big thanks to the help around here, I've got a hell of lot to learn. Good day Floyd https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-P4c2fgk/0/0624f696/O/i-P4c2fgk.jpg

If it helps thead size in 138 is the maximum you could use. If this is what you require in your products your good to go! good day there Floyd

I have heard this 241 model Juki is a predecessor to the later 1541 and it having different letter designators in the model number also. I believe some here could describe very well the relationship Nakajima had with Juki's big startup? Many on the site here have and use these models daily, myself included. Digging through searchs has several mentions of the 241. Google even leads back to here many times in search. If you have a price thats a good start here, but any letter designators in the model number would really help answer better. Sometimes only stickers and they can be history so other visual things could help. I mentioned the model type as a keynote. It has been a learning experience for myself, so much that some things ask can help others give recommendations easier. In this model i am also interested if it has a bobbin case opener lever, always curious when that model of hook setup was installed. Good luck Floyd

It sounds like most products are about 1/4" thick and realy could use a bit heavier machine in everyday usage, sorry. It does sounds like a nice machine to have and for sure many days be used with some lighter products. In using these heavy garmet and canvas/denim duty type machines. They make a reducer pulley setup to gear down and give extra punch and is really desired. This helps as you well know the leather can be a tough material. Machine Photos are still cool to look at, also the model is a key sometimes in determining a H duty type good day Floyd

Just glancing over what others have mentioned. I stress the model number clarification. The " S" model is what you would like best for that money. I have both and they both are great for canvas and that range of stuff. They have different hooks and other parts also. They normaly run the 135x17 needle system with 3/8" thickness material. This sounds like a good find for stuff under that material dimension. Good find, and its a great idea to get it! Imho Floyd

Veiwing on a phone all i can see is the thread path maybe the issue. Possibly a bur on the needle tip thus cutting the thread. This or maybe the needle bending from such a tough peice of veg tan and this action moving the thread to close to the biting dogs in the thread path. Good day Floyd

Walmart or your local jo-anns sewing has small bottles of oil for now. Until you decide to online buy a qt. or a gallon possibly. Youll be surprised how long these little bottles last. Besides inital lubrication of 15 times on each bushing you will still have some left. But do recommend getting a couple bottles. Sometimes a bit more can be used around the hook and if it has oil storage in the saddle area. On another note sew machine oil doesnt have such a staining effect as i hear the pros mention. Have a good day with the new machine Floyd

I agree its time to get the paperwork out. Its a bummer for sure, sometimes it happens. I suspect its best to consider the total replacement even this new, rather than just the controller if separate. Good luck and please update us with any findings they might share. Floyd

This is my best choice for this work, i have found different bits available in this set that really! fit The 15 series jukis i work on and also a singer have why i dont know, several different screw heads. It is surprising that this kit mentioned is way beyond the standard drivers. https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-89-Piece-Deluxe-Gunsmithing-Screwdriver/dp/B001C63M7O In the shop i keep a standard set of snap on screw drivers. I always have liked the ability to use a wrench with these in stabilizing and putting some extra torque for removal. I never had any nice x-long drivers, but do agree the electric series offer some of interest for special work. The craftsman black handle drivers i always liked as the blasted tips i thought were spot on for fit in most standard screws. The handles i liked better than the old clear, red and blue. This brand was my only purchase for service truck and shop box before retiring. I had an apprentice box in 80 with snap on drivers and traded it with new job position that required a service truck. Since then for pro money use i used craftsman for drivers and snap on tools for everthing else. I did work in a set of matco torx drivers for lite work and the handles were pretty darn nice. All things considered i really wish i had invested in the wheeler set for special work long ago, really just needed at the home for special work. When your setting there with a parker or a beretta you should have a proper tool before movin ahead. Good day Floyd

Good morning and welcome to the sew machine page. Your commitment to a good budget choice is excellent. Here is where the other members can also help easily, so have patience. As mentioned the material type like veg tan or other tanning method types is helpfull. The veg tan is pretty tough in bending around vs chrome tan or some other soft type used regularly in garmet and upholstery stuff. With this i recommend you decide for a begining "anyway" to the products you want to make. These being flat work OR curved, so a quick thought to a project in mind and piecing it out you could say. I hope this is clear, my coffee pot this morning cannot wait and in clean mode so bare with me. Good day Floyd

Where to buy Refurbished or off brand machines.
brmax replied to Jordanball33's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Thats a pretty serious curve ball when you put in the 138 minimum thread. I think your start, with looking for ideas here on the site is the best choice. So good luck! It may just be my luck with craigs L. But i have only seen 2 cyl arm machines in my 200 mile distance they use. Im going to say, have a look at a new cobra machine I believe its the class 26, this and the newest others in that size. Seems these medium size of late are using thread a you mention pretty easily. Good day Floyd -
If that included shipping then its a big super sale. Just from the link i could not do the language exchange. I may have to sign on to the bay But anyhow i may consider options in the future with the three new take offs sitting on the shelf here. Good day there Floyd

Yes i agree a smaller pulley will help the torque available punching through. Good day Floyd

Just curious, have you tried one of the banner ad dealers. It may be worth there time if anything else is needed. I think i seen 5 bucks some where couple weeks ago for the juki number but theres always shipping. I wonder if some candle wicks could be selected, they have some good quality types available. Though im not sure what would be best here.

Crazy as it is, if you google many many more results come up and best of all there from this site. I havent a clue why and find myself doing this a lot. Anyway at this point i like the 255 rb simply because it has reverse. I also like the model of singer it is a copy of. Many on here use or have both. Something to key in on is any numbers after the RB there up to 5 maybe 6 series now. The servo motors are simply nowadays needed. And honestly i dont think the most experienced on here would go without in a purchase, thats just where we are these days. So i like all this for the other cost. To be doing some small production in leather it maybe wise to look into an additional "part" of this setup and it is a speed reducer/ power pulley. Good day and a big welcome! to the site Floyd

Yes Its organized, pretty well and actually is what makes it. There are locations all over, and there is a buyers fee listed. It does require registration that needs vetting and that time frame can be a issue. Finally it is legit, and the bid winner follows a strict time frame as far as pay, pickup appt. rules, this part i will tell you is easy if you dont mind strict military pre set rules listed. Keep that in top procedure style and its good. If your early on appt pickup or considering that thought ( it aint happening ).. they will work with you on this inital setup but its on their schedule, and im really saying hold to your setup you made and its something to appreciate. But then i thought the military rules and organization was uh like normal and easy. Welcome to try an answer more on pm if any ? good day Floyd

Im not twenty anymore but found on a couple machines here with slick thread. The winding around my hand is required and if it pulls i go to or it breaks! i found the ptfe thread a real bear and then the replacement to poly with not a bit of adjustment its like easy as holding a new piece of pie, mmm yep Floyd
