  1. Hi justin, welcome.....not many classes to be found in Oz.... lots of info here and also Youtube is worth a look. Next year in July will be the biannual Dimensions in Leather conference. It is held in Brisbane and it is a week of classes in all sorts of leather craft for beginners and advanced. Teachers from all around the world. I can't recommend it highly enough...the BEST of times to be had!!!! heres the link from the 2011 conference http://www.dimensionsinleather.com/ cheers caroline (geelong Vic)
  2. You could try contacting Jim beaton... he is the rep for cowboy sewing machines in australia.. Jim Beaton, Phone 07 4126 2241 gsaddler@bigpond.com Great guy and gives good advice, give him a call. He often has some machines on special. cheers caroline (geelong vic)
  3. Bernie, this is just beautiful....i watch and rewatch your youtube vids all the time. As for the photography, do you use a light tent? I have a set up similar to the pic below. The halogen lights can be bought in pairs from bunnings cheap. This way you don't need the flash on the camera and won't get reflection from shining things. cheers caroline
  4. I have been busy with my dog doing agility trials, so i haven't been doing much leatherwork lately, however the club needed some donations for the trial raffle, so i made this dog collar. cheers thanks for looking
  5. Thanks trox.....Trevor kindly emailed me the adjustment manual....i think all those adjustments may be beyond me!!!! I might have a go at it, but i can see myself ending up with a machine that won't sew!!! lol I think i may call my sewing mechanic....he comes to the house and only charges about $40 for visit. I thought when i bought the new dog and needle plate that it would be a two minute job to just pop them in...... thanks for taking the time to explain in detail the procedure. I think these machines are more complicated than my car!!! Now i know why they cost so much!! cheers and thanks again caroline
  6. HI trox...yes, i have the screws for the figure 8, but just didnt put them in for the pic......i cannot move the new feed dog any more to the right!!!!! it needs to move about 2mm more to the right!! If i adjust the needle bar, that is move it to the left , wouldnt i also then have to adjust the bobbin position as well?? caroline
  7. Hi trevor....thanks for your reply...but that is not the problem...the needle is to the right of the hole!!! the feed dog needs to move to the right so the needle will go down the hole, but there is no room for adjustment that i can see. cheers
  8. Hi all, i have a pfaff 335 cylinder arm machine that i have had for a while. When i got it second hand it was set up for binding. I took those bits off and just used it for regular sewing. I finally got around to getting a new needle plate and feed dog. However when i fit the new feed dog it is not aligning with the needle. It is only about 1 or 2 mm out . Is there some way of adjusting this??? Otherwise i was thinking of filing a bigger hole. thanks for any help given!! cheers caroline
  9. jayjay, i use quite a lot of acrylics through my airbrush... i like jo sonja, but they have to be thinned down to get them throughout the airbrush, i also like lumiere acrylics and also createx airbrush paints. cheers
  10. hi teresa, i am haven't used the craft tool lace cutter, but it should do the job. I have the aussie strander. The lace is cut wider than you need. It then needs to be stretch. Next the lace is cut down to the size you need using the gadget in the video and then the undersides are beveled. Once again, here is a vid on bernie cutting lace PS don't feel stupid!! we all have to learn and thats whats great about this site. cheers caroline
  11. hi teresa, i think you have the bevelers mixed up....edge bevelers are for veg tanned leather, what you are looking for is a lace beveler....some very experienced braiders can do this with just a sharp blade, but for the rest of us we need more help......again, youtube is your friend. I have this set-up..aussie made ! but there are many different types including homemade ones.. When talking about splitting lace, this is referring to the thickness of the roo not the width of the lace. Bought roo lacing usually doesn't need splitting. I bought the splitter from dene williams, (from the rm williams family) you can find his details here as well as some other useful links. http://leatherworkersguildnsw.org.au/usefullinks.htmcheers
  12. You are most welcome.... please note that i made a typo.....the next conference is in 2013!!!!

  15. Hi teresa and welcome....looking forward to seeing some of your work. As for supplies, i really like Leffler in melbourne, their website is like a dogs breakfast, but you can get their catalogue sent to you. Their roo lacing is very nice and their morgan oak tooling leather is very clean. Another one to check out is http://birdsall-leather.com.au/home.php I get my water based dyes from them. Both these suppliers are very quick with their delivery. Please ask if you have any questions. cheers for now caroline PS almost forgot...there is now a Tandy in sydney, but i haven't ordered from them yet.

    A New Mask

Here is a mask i have made as a gift for a customer as a thank you for her order to recovering 12 directors chairs. I must admit i don't like making the some thing over and over. Anyway, i have called this mask 'spirit of the sea'. The chairs were for her holiday house by the sea and thought these colours would be nice. I used pearlised airbrush colours by Createx. cheers and thanks for looking
