Wow that's a really nice jacket and a great idea for advertising.

I've been looking on ebay for the last few weeks but nothing has come up still trying to decide whether to buy one new or not as I have to stretch the funds I have available for the new shed (after the move) and a clicker. Would prefer it if possible to get one from Australia as I guess shipping would be expensive from overseas as the Lucris website say they are 45kg. Cheers, Clair

Merry Christmas everyone, it had just turned 6pm here and my 10 year old was already in his pyjamas. I have all the tasty meat treats this Christmas as my father in law opened the biggest butcher shop in Western Australia this year so I'll probably be on ham and turkey overload by the end of the holidays. Talk about a mad house though by 7am the carpark was full and we had to put up signs to stop people parking down our service road otherwise they were going to squished by the trucks when they tried to get into the place.

Wow he has some really nice stuff I came across his website a few weeks ago and forgot to bookmark it so I'm glad it's popped up here (cheers, leathernut).

It may of been me twinklestarchild was referring to here's the original thread I posted in http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...pic=3924&hl= I've also used Dylon but didn't think it was that good so have stuck with Rit, I originally got the idea from when Leatheroo contacted Leatherwood designs (Roderick Stanger) and he got back to her to say that he used a dye from the chemist we don't have alot of choice when it comes to dyes in Australia so I thought it must be Rit or Dylon. That thread is here http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...pic=1423&hl Cheers, Clair

I would like to know this as well I'm after a thread that is about 1mm thick and I can't tell from the samples they show. I would like to go for their $50 wholesale order but don't want to order that much only to find it's the wrong size. Cheers, Clair

All metric for me, my mum tried to get me interested in making quilts with her a few years ago and they use imperial for that but after asking her for about the 50th time how you read all the funny little measurements on the inch rulers she gave up and is quite happy for me stay at the metric end of the table.

cem replied to tashabear's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Tashabear, not sure if you may of seen this before but I came across this tutorial when I was searching for leather carving stuff and thought it might be of some help if you haven't already seen it. http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Leather/Gilded.htm Cheers, Clair -
I refuse to buy them very often as they last all of 5 seconds in my house, though an exception is made in winter as you can't beat the traditional dunking into coffee or hot chocolate.

I would say Tasha bear has hit the nail on the head for an explanation That's classic though sharpshooter, I wish I could give that to clients when I get endless revisions on their artwork.

Western Australia has about 2 million people and we still get delays at times in the major areas thankfully though it has got better over the years with them opening up more polling places. Though I had fun a couple of months ago when we had our state elections my husband went through in about 5 mins, me on the other hand it took about 20mins seems my last name McDonald was hard to find on the electrol roll had to tell the guy who was marking the names off about 5 times how to spell it. In the end I told the guy it's like the chain of restaurants the penny dropped then ahh he said Miccy D's. Meanwhile the lady next to him and her line of voters were trying hard not to piss themselves laughing.

We've had it a couple of weeks now in Western Australia, this is the last year of our three year trial it had been voted down in the last three refurendums we had but some dumb twits in government decided we were going to have a three year trial and forced it upon the public. It's likely to get through this time due to the influx of eastern staters, if you want to rev up a true West Australian tell them how wonderful daylight saving is and then sit back and watch the show. I personally don't like daylight saving as I like light mornings but can contain myself when someone asks my opinion, my father on the other hand he's one for the show. We have it from the end of October to the end of March which is too long as it still doesn't tie in with the other states and makes it still fairly dark at 7.30am in March, People would probably accept it more here if it finished at the end of February.

Nice shots, I got to meet the West Coast Eagles mascot once she is called Auzzie and is a very impressive bird up close.

Vegemite is an aquired taste and most people from other countries usually don't get our taste for it, we grow up with it and it's usually the first lunch for a kid starting school why cause it keeps until lunchtime without getting soggy or going off in the heat (we don't have sit down school cafeterias in Australia so kids either bring their lunch to school or buy from the school canteen, where you pay a premium for them making you a simple sandwich). It's best to have it on hot fresh bread with butter or margarine, spread thinly on white bread with margarine or on Sao crackers (my favourite way). The trouble usually starts when a tourist wants to taste it and we tell them to slap it on like peanut butter ensuring a sucked on lemon type face and thorough amusement for the Aussie. Clair

I agree with that, in Western Australia all the carbonated stuff is called cool or soft drink unless you ask for something specific like coke or pepsi and cordial is what Barra explained it as. Yes red cordial is nasty stuff I refuse to let my husband and son drink it as it sends them absolutely bonkers. Not many people in WA drink Sars or root beer I remember when they released Dr Pepper here it was an absolute flop and only lasted about 6 months. Clair

There is a program that can do it with depth it's called Zbrush you can check it out here www.pixologic.com it's not cheap but they have a demo version. I bought it when I was I doing 3D graphics work it's more for character creation for movies and games but it will do mostly what you want. I wouldn't recommend it if you haven't used some sort of graphics program before though as the learning curve is a bit high for those interested in giving it a try I recommend watching the videos on their site, checking out their wiki and for those super interested, buying a couple of books from amazon and checking out the intro videos from The Gnomon Workshop and Digital Tutors (more for those interested in doing colour mock ups which it can also do). For doing leatherwork patterns you specifically want to look up Alphas and Stencils on their wiki page. I remember a thread where a fellow from China posted a series of stamps in Corel Draw and later Illustrator format that you could use in graphics programs. I got the Illustrator ones and converted them to PSD to use in ZBrush (I only did the ones that I have actual physical stamps for though). If I've got time and if anyone is interested I'll try and post some psuedo ZBrush leatherwork in the next few days I have had all my stuff packed up for a house move so are a bit rusty in the ZBrush department but I should be able to get some example pics up. Cheers, Clair

Yeah I've since given up on it as well after stabbing myself with it and having a few broken threads. I got fairly quick at saddle stitch but have since moved house and all my leatherwork stuff is packed up so I'll probably be a slow poke again when I get the leatherwork stuff out again.

I haven't been around much lately as I've just moved and didn't get my internet connection back until a few days ago (had to scrounge some time at work when the boss wasn't looking to look at all the cool stuff been posted recently). My leatherwork stuff is still packed up as I don't have anywhere to do it yet in the new place. Old place had fully tiled floors so my husband didn't mind me using dyes and things but the new place is carpeted in the spare room so he said it will be off to the shed for me. Unfortunately though it's not built yet, hopefully it won't be too long but in the mean time I've been trying to get some patterns together and thought some others might be interested in this program I came across on another forum I visit. It's called alchemy and is available here http://al.chemy.org/download/ it's not designed to do finished artwork such as Painter or Photoshop but it's sure alot of fun to play if your into abstract stuff. I especially like the mirror function and with a bit of tweaking in Photoshop I think I've got my next leatherwork pattern for when the sheds finally built or when I can't take it any more and shift all the extra stuff out of the garage (thought I got rid of that when we moved). I'm no way involved in the developing of alchemy I just thought it was a fun program to play around with and wanted to share it I've found it to be a great start in developing quick sketches. Cheers, Clair

I think a link to this cartoon may be in order although directed at the non payers the last panel is fairly fitting http://freelanceswitch.com/page/5/, (Freelance Freedom No 60 scroll down a bit)I've come across this sort of thing with my graphic design work and I have to say you handled the guy perfectly Shirley, you do great work and should be payed accordingly.

James Acord has some pretty nice leatherwork stuff http://www.turtlemoon.com/acord/acord.htm, when I was first looking for leatherwork sites this was one of the first I come across.

Not sure if you have seen it or not but there are quite a few pages on tooling tigers in the Al Stohlman Figure Carving Finesse book, shows what tools he used to use etc.

Nevermind, I got some round lace today and it wasn't strong enough for what I wanted. Cheers, Clair

Thankyou Tom for the pattern and explanation, my partner saw that raw picture when i was looking at your blog and decided that I would be making him one. I really loved that Raw look on your latest bracer, but it's definately come up really well with the gold and bronze on the black. Thanks again Cheers, Clair

Just wondering if anyone has heard of or ordered from this place http://www.leathercordusa.com/. I'm after some different coloured round leather lace for a special project I'm working on. I can get black, brown, natural and some colours in Australia but this place has the colour I want which is violet as well as some others, which i may use in the future cause if this project works I will probably do more. I may just end up dying some natural which I'm going to get tomorrow but if it becomes too much of a hassle to dye, it would be nice to be able to buy readymade in a pinch. Cheers, Clair
