Hi, Some help please. I have decided that my stitching needs some serious practice so I decided to make a roper stlye breast collar for my own use. That way only my horse get embarassed (apart from me) at the stitching and I thought the long runs of stitching would make perfect practice. My problem is that I have a full size breast collar which just about gives one of my regular size horses (Quarter Horse) a wedgie (between his front legs) if I put it on him. So I had a bright idea of buying a full size roper style breast collar from the USA (I am an Aussie) well this arrived and apart from longer connector straps actually is smaller that the first one I had. Can someone give me some sizes for the breast straps so they dont look like I am trying the squeeze my horses into miniature gear. please. Johanne

Yes, Yes Yes I agree it is even better here in Australia as a seller you are not able to leave any feedback but POSITIVE. So if you get a bad payer, purchaser etc you cant respond or even reply to an incorrect feedback. I received a note from Auctiva stating that they are starting up an online auction site so there might be some competition in the future. I agree the fees are a bit much and they are double diping with Pay Pal but then again no one is forcing me to use them. As moe people visit my online shop (not ebay) I might not need ebay to "get the name out there" Anyone interested in starting an online Auction house???? I am prepared to help Johanna what about a Leatherworker.net auction ? Johanne

I said the pressure washer with a . I have been using a nail brush and saddle soap on a small area, as soon as the suds turn black I wipe them off with a damp cloth, then start again. I am using Joseph Lyddy Glycerine saddle soap which seams to be doing the job. I was hoping there was a slightly quicker way Thanks Johanne

Hi All, I have just bought a pre-loved Joey Jemison cutting saddle and I would ike some help cleaning/restoring it. It was originally a rough out saddle and looking under the flaps was a tan colour. The top side is BLACK with grease and arena dirt. I don't think it has ever been cleaned. I thought about a pressure cleaneer it is that bad. Can someone give me some ideas on getting this saddle back to a more normal appearance. The only upside is that with the amount of leather dressing the leather is in pretty good nick just putrid. Help please. Johanne

Hilly ,I have received my "paying it forward" item, and I am in awe,Hilly has sent me a fantastic sheridan notebook cover. I absolutely LOVE it and am in awe of her talent. She tells me she has only been carving for 6 months. This gift is something I will treasure for ever. She even carved my name inside to further personalise this gift. Thank you, thank you, thank you.I have attached some photos so everyone can have a drool. Here is photo 2

Preserving old leather
JLD replied to TomBanwell's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Hi If you contact a museum they can tell you what they use. They restore "old" things for display and can probably advise you of the best method. Johanne -
Thanks for that information. That is a great resource site I havn't seen it before. Johanne

OK, I am psyched and ready to go. My cow (Nadia) came from an organic dairy so I shouldn'y have to worry too much about the pesticide effect on the leather. Though it makes you wonder how good it is for the cow if it effects their leather/skin? My hide is not really thick so I might try a braided core. Do I get a smoother finish if I put something in the middle. Johanne

Hi I am making a bridle/headstall and want to use some buckstitching on it. How do I do this, without having to go and buy another book. I thought that there must be some pictures or instruction here somewhere but I am unable to locate them. What I have found on the net shows slits in both a horizontal and 45 degree angle. I am now more confused? Can some one please enlighten me. Thanks Johanne

Hi Alan and thanks for your help. I have done a fair bit of braiding with Kangaroo and latigo. This is my first go on a Bosal as I wanted to make it in rawhide with a rawhide core. The hide I have is fraom a Holstein Fresian cow and I have dehaired it and gotten all the flesh of and stretched it to dry (I wont be doing that again in hot weather) It is a reasonably thin hide. I do have a splitter and can cut the strands and I bevel by hand. So I soak up the hide to cut it and cut some 2: wide straps from the sides in circles and use the backbone area for the core since it is thicker? How do I do the core. can I cut my strings for the core directly along the spine line (head to tail). What width strings and how many and do I need a core also. Johanne

Hi Tina Great idea I would love to participate be warned I am on L plates Johanne

How wide would you make the strip and should I try to straighten it after I have cut it. Would straightening require stretching it
