I've got a problem with the profiles line in the database, but it only seems to be causing problems selectively. When I think I get it fixed, I'm going to need to ask you for confirmation, Mike. Thanks for letting me know what you are seeing. Johanna

Happy birthday, Clay! Johanna

Muriatic acid is the stuff they use on driveways and sidewalks. Oxylic acid is usually used for leather. Follow the dilution instructions carefully, wear gloves and get plenty of fresh air. I would probably bite it and do the back panel again, and make wallets that I could dye darker from the spotted leather. IMHO, salvage operations like this seldom give the desired results and take too much time. Good luck with it, no matter what you decide to do! Johanna

I honestly don't know. All the members are still listed, along with the pics, but I don't see anyone on the map. I'll try to get it back...how, I don't know yet, but I'll try. Johanna

I'll take a good look later, Ken. Change the "your" to "you're" in the bold type on the home page, and "sponsors" is mis-spelled on the links page. Thank you for linking to leatherworker.net! Johanna

The "Rundi Shell" resembles a honeycomb, or maybe snake scales. I really like the quilted snowflake. That would be nice on a portfolio or saddle. I've been looking for Rundi, but I haven't seen her in the validation queue yet. We need folks that think out of the box, rather than EAT out of the box. (Hey, Clay, hope you are feeling better soon!) Johanna

I used to get the findings at Fire Mountain Gems. I'm sensitive to nickel, though, and love alternatives to buckles for closures. Elastic, buttons, velcro- only limited by imagination! Johanna

Let me get a little more organized over the next few days, and I will get with you privately about linking. Your work is terrific and unique, and I thank you for sharing it with us. Keep the pics coming! Johanna

My laptop will go on the battery about 2-3 hours before I need to plug it in. They sell AC adapters that plug into the cigarette lighter, but I don't have one. I have a card from Verizon that lets me get online in broadband anywhere I can get a cell phone signal. So, yes, I was looking at the forum while my husband was driving... piece of cake. Johanna

Is that Pittsburgh Pa. or Va. ? Can't tell. I'm riding in the Honda somewhere in Missouri, coming home from the show. If it is Pa., it is missing the "h". I read somewhere that Pgh. tried to get rid of the "h" once, but the local people made them put it back. Neat, Regis! Thanks for sharing! Johanna

I know, Kate- the pics need captions...but it's going to have to wait until we drive to home sweet home Ohio. Johanna -
2007 IFoLG Competition Room

Ben, wave at me so I know who you are! I'm easy to spot with my Wal Mart purse. Tim and the rest of you- you want more pics? Here you go! The pics start off in the vendor area, and I got hung up in the dragon lady's area. I admire Roz Short Kaohn's art very much. I didn't take pics of all the shiny tools...sorry. I saw Barry King tools somewhere, Ron's tools, Hidecrafter & Tandy, Marlin knives (wow!) Artisan sewing machines, Paul Burnett and a dozen more I'm not thinking to mention at the moment. Walking into the display room where Peter Main's and Robb Barr's work is on display, I tried to take a pic of the guild logo first, so you folks would know what came from where. I tried to stick to it, but it was very crowded. I think I saw a pic or two sideways- I will fix them when I get home, promise. The last few are of the raffle tables and the Silva Fox carving I would like to win tomorrow. It's time for the awards banquet now, and swap meet at 9pm. Later everybody! Johanna -
Pour a cup of coffee, there are more than 100 pics here... I'm waiting for my camera to charge up before heading into the guild display room (where the Robb Barr pieces are displayed) so I put this gallery of the competition room together quickly. Here are pics of the 2007 IFoLG Competition Room. Congratulations to our ClayB, yaklady & David Theobald for the first place ribbons! Johanna

Why are all of your sites in the same file tree? It sounds like your new site's index page overwrote your other index pages. Upload and overwrite the index.htm files with your backups. Johanna

That is the only error, best I can tell. I'm working on it. Johanna Aha! Try it now. -

Bill, are you still having that issue in the profiles? I think we've got everything fixed from the server error today, so let me know if you are still having trouble. The database became corrupted, but it should be fixed now. Thanks, Monkey, for keeping an eye on things while I drove the rest of the way here. I had a knot in my stomach thinking the board was broken, and it's a relief to know it's okay. Thanks to everyone who sent me a message, too! I've got my laptop, but it's not "smart", like my computer at home, so everything is a little bit harder on the road, but it can be done. (Just really hard to type!) Johanna -

Okay, everyone, try to break the board now!! I'm headed out into the hotel with my camera...stay tuned! Johanna -
Can you just buff the grease out as you use the leather? Maybe post a picture to help us see exactly what you are talking about. Johanna

Thanks for noticing, Kev! I caught Tinkeritis, I suppose, and have been doing mods whenever I feel brave. It is turned off on the view new topics and today's active topic pages, so I don't know if everyone has noticed it yet, but it has been on for about a week. If you hover your cursor on a forum index, you will see spippets and pics without having to click, then you can decide whether you're interested in reading the thread and click then. Let me know if anyone has trouble with it! Johanna

HideCo, LLC assumed ownership of Hide Crafter
Johanna replied to ClayB's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Since you leather folks have been incessantly Googling to see an official announcement, and one isn't coming, if it hasn't come by now, to the best of my knowledge the owners are now: Lindsay Fink, of SX Industries (a hardware manufacturer), Jeff Ballard, of Thoroughbred Leather, and Greg Sartor of Silver Creek Leather. The name is legally Hide Co. dba Hide Crafter Leather Co. if my multiple sources are correct. It goes without saying that we here at leatherworker.net wish the new company every success and look forward to a bright leatherwork future. I hope nothing but the best to George Hurst, too, for he will always be one of the real "Legends in Leathercraft" to me. Johanna -
Did you look at Sidney Wood's descriptions at the bottom of this page? Johanna

Some people don't care for the gap a round hole makes, and they use a chisel (gang punch) instead. The slits are flatter, so no light shines through after the lacing is done. It helps to have one single prong chisel to get into tight spots. You can keep the spacing even by always putting the last tine in the last set of holes punched. Johanna

I've been quite frustrated with the limitations of the board's search. The Google site search on the main page http://leatherworker.net is a good workaround. I've got more to add, but I wanted to get that search up and running. Links to all the photo galleries and tutorials are on that page, too. Thanks for noticing, Regis- I wondered if anyone would!
