  1. Having a hard time understanding the instructions on this one.
  2. I stumbled on this decorative lacing on a book binding website. I love the way it looks and would like to learn how to do it. Can anyone point me towards a tutorial? Cheers Tinkerton
  3. These are gorgeous!
  4. I really like the bird design. They're beautiful
  5. How did you achieve the quilted look?
  6. Here is my failed attempt, made out of sheep skin. My first mistake was using too soft and too thin a leather, and then using a thicker veg-tan for the closure. Folded and laced the sides to try to give it a little more rigidity. Didn't really work. Also messed up measuring the closure, so they don't line up properly. Next time will definitely use a thicker veg tan for the whole thing.
  7. Going to have to restart mine. I messed up somewhere, and now the closures don't line up.
  8. There's also vetrinary costs to consider, housing the beasts, inspection and storage costs if you plan on selling the meat or milk, not to mention the man hours involved. Livestock farming is a labour of love.
  9. Could work for a small/baby animal
  10. I would suggest asking a farmer. Rules and regs vary slightly from province to province. Knowing one or two dairy farmers in Ontario, it's not a cheap thing to start up, nor to maintain.
  11. I think I'll play too on this one!
  12. A tad off topic, but that's a gorgeous bag!
  13. Your tooling is absolutely beautiful!
  14. I'll admit I know nothing about turning, but looking at a leather handled maul, it looks like there's most likely a metal rod that goes through the entirety of it. That would give it strength, rigidity, and mass.
  15. Does anyone have experience using Ramie thread? If so, how well does it hold up compared to synthetic or linen?
  16. Did you put a core in it or is it just the straight leather?

I'd love a copy of the pattern as well, please. They look wonderful!
  18. How did you go about forming the sole?
  19. How's it coming along?
  20. Made this for my sister's boyfriend for Christmas. The writing wasn't as clear as I would have liked, but overall I'm pleased with how it turned out.
