I agree with Timbo! I've tried to braid and anything more than 4 strands does me in, LOL. Anyway nice curb strap Rawhider. Always enjoy looking at your work!

Very cool work! I like the overall design. Could you post a pic of the knife out of the sheath? Thanks.

Al Stohlmans book is great. It's what I used to learn. But it doesn't mean I know it all and you brought up some great ideas. I like the wax idea a lot. Also the gloves. Thanks so much for posting this!

Is anyone else having problems with Hidecrafters? I ordered a print catalog about 2 months ago. They sent me an e-mail saying it was on its way about a week after I ordered it, but I still haven't recieved it. I know I can always get online and look but I prefer a printed one (moch easier to read in bed,LOL). I tryed to call yesterday but noone answered. In another thread Kani said she couldn't get an answer either. Just curious what everyone thought. Thanks.

Kevin, you continue to amaze me! Even when you try to make something simple you can't pull it off. Instead it turns out elegant and artistic. Great job!! -
knife handle and sheath
Warren replied to steveb's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Awesome work! I would think it would be hard to figure out the right sheath for each knife and still satisfy the customer. -
Glad to know I'm not the only one interested in this! Thanks for the info and thanks Skinner for asking the question.

Mexican Loop holster
Warren replied to Warren's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hey everyone , really appreciate the enthusiasm. Gunfighter is right about "Packing Iron". I have it and it is the absolute authority on historic western gun leather. As for the pattern, there wasn't one. Now let me explain that. I have several of Will Ghormley's pattern packs. Unfortunately they are all for fixed sighted, full-sized single action revolvers. This is a .22 revolver, as in much smaller sized. So I took a manila file folder and used it to make pocket to fit the pistol. Then I just drew the outline of the holster until it looked "right". I thought I had made it a little over sized. It actually was just perfect, which means I got lucky,LOL. Oh well I rather be lucky than good any day. Oh yeah, and to answer Rayban"s question, no it was actually dry when I put the body thru the loops. I wet formed it to the pistol, then stained and finished it. Ive found that staining after I wet mold softens the leather back up without causing it lose the molded form. Trust me it wasn't easy to put thru and it isn't something you want to do over and over, but it will go. Also the swell between the loops helps to lock it together and keep it from pulling back thru when you draw the gun. Speaking of drawing the gun, the fit on the pistol is tight enough right now that you can turn it upside down and shake it and the gun won't fall out (I tried it!). I want it that way to begin with because it will loosen up with time and use. Also this one isn't for competition use. If someone wanted a holster for cowboy action shooting that would be different. Anyway, thats my take on it. Hope I answered everybody's questions and I'm glad you guys like it! Thanks again. -
Very nice work! I also like the straps on the inside. Very innovative in my opinion. I'm no expert but I haven't seen that before. I want to make a set of saddle bags one of these days. Thanks for posting a very good example.

Well, I see someone beat me to the question I was going to ask. Kevin you never cease to amaze me! Those are sooo coool! I'm going to have to tell some of the guys at the fire station about you. We have a lot of guys who ride and I'm sure some of them would be interested in becoming customers. -
Hey George , glad to have you here. Sorry about the computer, but it happens to everyone eventually. Would love to see some of this "folky" work of yours as well as some of your reenactor stuff.

Mexican Loop holster
Warren replied to Warren's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Appreciate all the positive comments. I've been trying to keep the gunleather I make as authentic as possible. When most of what you make is for friends and family that's fairly easy to do. As in they're getting it for free so nobody complains! Or at least not very loudly, LOL. The color is just Fiebings antique leather dye/medium brown. I like it and it isn't hard to get the results I'm aiming for, as in old looking. Thanks again and glad you guys like it. -
Absolutely outstanding! I have yet to see any of your seats that weren't great pieces.

These pieces truly fall into the realm of art! Absolutely amazing!

Hey Freak, glad you like it. Oh and don't hold your breath on the belt. It may be a while coming LOL! -
"just put a deer on it and maybe some initials on the back"
Warren replied to freak's topic in Figure Carving
If I have learned nothing else about working with leather it is this. It doesn't matter what it looks like when you start or at any other time during the process. It only matters what it looks like when your finished. Nice looking notebook Freak and I like the deer too. -
It just goes to show you that there is no WAY to do something. Someone will always find a new twist! Great job Clay those are very unique and interesting.

Nice work! I think you have the "saddle look" down. You can get a makers mark from Grey Ghost Graphics. They are relatively inexpensive from what everyone says. I'm saving up for one myself.
