Hand crank support request
Hockeymender replied to beginningsaddleman's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I purchased a similar machine from Robin Industries in China. They were great to deal with and everything went smoothly. I would not hesitate to buy from them again. The machine was as rough as a cob. I had to invest quite a few hours cleaning, polishing and making minor adjustments. After all that was accomplished, it was really a good machine. It would sew well and was quite easy to use ( at least in my opinion). It did well with both thick and thinner materials. I tried it with 138 and 207 thread and it didn't complain. If you are not afraid to dive in and do some basic set up work, these machines are a good thing, and with what they sell for it really is hard to go wrong. -

Installing speed reducer on Friday Hope it goes well

Have done it several times. Just take it slow, double....triple check everything before you do it and it will all come out fine. Will be well worth the effort in the end. -
Tho not the same machine as being discussed, I have a Seiko STH-8BLD-3 flatbed and it is an excellent machine. No issues and runs very smooth. I believe it to be one of my better purchases.

If you ever start one, sign me up, would buy my needles from you. I like to support the "little guys" rather than the big suppliers.

Was going to say the same....Darren beat me to it. Might want to give Simards a try: http://simards.com/

On my 335 I have made this type of adjustment by moving up the stitch length lever to a point that will give me the right stitch at the end. It's not easy as you need to develop a feel for how far up to lift and hold the lever to get the desired result. With some practice you will learn where to lift and hold the lever to get to a desired endpoint.

New Juki LS-2342 cylinder arm machine

I'm not sure what members you are referring to, I only have one 441 clone. I would be willing to bet that most here have only one. I think Eric's point is well taken, people watch a video, and then attempt to do something they really shouldn't do because they or the machine is not up to the task. That ends badly. Always. I think the small budgeted layman can find himself in a world of hurt if he steps into what is for him, uncharted territory. -

I would, if at all possible, go sew on anything you are considering buying from Advanced Sewing Technologies. That's from personal experience. PM me if you want details. -
Very nice...well done!!

Having three 335 machines, two set up as binders I can tell you the best results will be had if you have a binder made. I don't know where you are located, but I have mine made by Tennessee Attachment. I send the goods I will be binding, a strip of the binding and the make/model machine (335). They have always done a great job. I personally have not heard of many success stories with off the shelf binders, that said I'm sure there are some out there.

Machine For Sewing Sneaker Midsole?

I think for the price you just can't go wrong. It's really a well made machine, just very rough. As I stated before, I would have no hesitation ordering from Robin Industries again. -

Not really sure why your question is phrased as it is. Guess price hasn't been mentioned because no one asked.....till now. The cost for the machine, including shipping via FedEx is $260. Fees to wire the funds are additional. -

Yes, it does say PayPal. I asked about that and all they said was that don't accept it. Go figure. -

I tried some 346 in it. I never use anything that heavy but wanted to see what it would do and it handled it fine. I concur, very solid machine that sews quite well if your willing to put some time into setting it up. -

As an update to this, I purchased one of these from Robin Industries. I wired the $ to them on a Friday and I received an email from them Tuesday morning stating they had received the funds. I had the machine in my shop 12 days after sending the money. It was a rough as a cob, and it took quite a bit of work to polish, smooth and adjust. All that done, the machine sews surprisingly well. I've tried several materials and thread sizes in it and it does well with all. I would not hesitate to deal with Robin Industries again. If you choose to get one of these machines just be ready to do quite a bit of work to get it "into good shape". -

Within the last two days. They don't accept credit cards or Paypal, at least not from North America. -

I have been in contact with this company (Robin Industries) re one of their machines, the RC-32-4A. They stated the only method of payment they accept is a wire transfer. Did a little research on that payment method and discovered quite a few horror stories about people that have wired money to China. The funds are sent only to have them disappear and they never did receive what they were attempting to purchase. I am not stating that Robin industries have been involved in any of this, but after reading about these issues I would rather not take the chance. I asked if there were any "dealers" for their machines, to which they responded "no dealers for this machine". Too bad, would have really liked to get that machine and make a project out of setting it up for my purposes. From the above video, they seem to do a rather nice job. -
Sewing machine with binding attachment
Hockeymender replied to harrington's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Glenn is correct, you can't go wrong with a custom made binder. They are pricey, however you get a binder that is made for YOUR machine, and YOUR application. That saves a lot of aggravation down the line. I have always viewed them as an investment. Guess it comes down to what you want (and are willing) to spend.- 4 replies
