  1. Just one day for voting over here, turnout is around 61-65% as a lot of us can't see any difference between the main partys. No problems with hanging chads as we use tried and trusted technology (making an X in pencil on the ballot paper).
  2. It's a movie so it's slightly exagerrated, but they did use a few local villains so the accents are genuine, although it sounds more south London than cockney (east London). You'd have to live in London for years to notice the subtle differences.
  3. Ey oop lad, watch what thou sez abaht my adopted county, Yorkshire folk speak reet proper tha knows. Beats me how anyone can understand brummy dialect, I spent 2 weeks in brum and had to have my ears untwisted when I left . Understanding American is easy by comparison, though some brand names still catch me out. Over here barge cement is something used for ballast in boats. No wonder you think mushy peas taste foul using that recipe, the right one is here (dried split peas can be subsituted for marrowfats). Try it, it'll put hairs on your chest (and probably take the enamel off the stove if you spill it) .
  4. I'll reply in pm, don't want to get into a long rant over something that has little to do with leather. This is a brief summary some wit came up with.
  5. Depends on the venue and who's organising it. Unless they specify "living history" standards you can get away with almost anything as long as there's no safety risk. Same goes for products, though I wouldn't try selling a re-enactor anything made from chrome tan. If you are going to put buckles on anything go for brass/bronze "D" shape (authentic even before the romans got here). If they insist on costume go for a long robe/kirtle (saves trying to make authentic hose which is a pain). If it is "living history" best forget it, you'll spend far more on kit than you'll ever make back, then some authenticity orifice will tell you the carefully researched thing you've made isn't right (while ignoring the "viking" wearing cowboy boots and a ww1 bayonet).
  6. Looks good, now you'll have to post pics of what your wife makes on it
  7. I just got some rope stamps and was wondering how to use them, this helps a lot, thanks
  8. Not exactly a pif, this just arrived unexpectedly from Pip. It's just brightened up a very soggy summer.
  9. 3M spray adhesive works pretty well
  10. Made one of these years ago for shaping armour and it's still surviving so I must have done something right. Construction is fairly simple, just cut 2 circles of 2mm leather (anything with a smooth grain), evo-stick the edges leaving a gap to put the sand in then sew it up. Builders sand may be a bit too gritty for jewelry so go for silver sand. fill it up then ram it down and add more sand. When you can't get any more sand in glue the gap and stitch it up. Finish of with beeswax.
  11. With over 2 thousand years of history it's not easy picking something, but there are 2 significant dates that most English people can remember. I haven't tried portrait carving yet, so the 1966 England team is a non starter and I've already done the research for the other one. Taken from the last section of the bayeux tapestry, depicting King Harold's last stand against the norman invaders at the battle of Hastings 1066.
  12. I still smoke and so do most of my friends, this pattern will come in handy. Thanks

    Border for armor

It looks like a craftool 1/4" embossing wheel, you can get them from tandy.
  14. Sounds like my mum or "the Bucket woman", wouldn't be seen dead wearing something that only cost a fiver,' cos at that price it's "cheap tat". At £20 it's a handcrafted piece of artwork made by a local artisan and she's telling everyone it's custom made and cost twice as much.
  15. Very nice work, looking forward to the tutorial
  16. I got one of these, it combines the worse aspects of machine and hand sewing. takes as long as saddle stitch and if the thread breaks the whole stitch can fall apart.
  17. I tried that once, took me 2 days to find my mallet
  18. Thanks guys. Think I'm starting to get the hang of this, didn't mess up the dye job and my friend loved it.
  19. Here's a belt and buckle I've just finished making for a freind.
  20. There's a thingy on making them out of paper here , should work with leather.

    8 ft bull whip

Nice work. Drac did a tutorial on tursheads here .
  22. It's called cuir boulli and there's a good article here . I've used it as armour and thicker peices are as effective as steel for impact resistance.
