  1. If there is anyone in there you can see in the board statistics section. It only shows when in use.

mmmmmmmmmmm coopers . Keep sending that over here and we may forgive you for Rolf Harris
  3. Hi Dave, try http://www.leprevo.co.uk/ or http://www.bowstock.co.uk/index.html. Nice to see another Brit here
  4. While you've got it sharp try experimenting with it. I just used mine to skive 1oz goat. Not the neatest skiving I've ever done, but better than the attempts with usual skiving tools.
  5. I used to get by with similar tools until I got a head knife, now I won't use anything else for cutting leather. It's like the difference between riding a vespa and a Harley.
  6. Is this what you are looking for? They are available here but I don't know if it would be economically viable to ship them across the pond.
  7. red wine warmed (not boiled) with wire wool, left for a week then strained gives a nice grey which can go black with subsequent applications.
  8. there are plans here. looks fairly simple.

    Help!!!

Easiest way is to copy to your hard drive then upload to here. For links copy then paste using the "insert link" button.
  10. Found this article about ebay, you might find it amusing http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/11/ebay_laptop_auction/

    Round knife

Got the idea from an old pslac newsletter (july 96) available here http://pslac.org/table_index_rawhide.htm . Re-tempering is fairly easy, just apply heat evenly with a blowtorch about an inch back from the edge until the steel turns brown/purple (260 c), then put it in a bucket of cold water. I used a 7 inch diameter blade and made a "tradional" round knife as well.

    Round knife

I made my own from an old circular saw blade. It doesn't look too pretty but it feels comfortable to use and it works. Cost 25p (about 50c) and a days work.
  13. I make dye from oxidised red wine (the half empty bottles you find hidden a few days after the party). Warm it up with wire wool in an aluminium pan, leave to cool then pour into a jar. Makes a nice dark grey dye that will produce black with subsequent applications. Best not to tidy up too thoroughly after the party or the wine is still drinkable and you don't get any dye
  14. Check your hides for powder burns http://www.cowswithguns.com/cowmovie.html
  15. Wait a few weeks and it will be available much cheaper bearing the legend "made in china".
  16. 1mm=2-3 oz. nice work Roo, you've got me tempted to have a go at trying a mask
  17. Thanks for the encouragement. Going to make a light box once I learn what all the buttons on the camera are for.
  18. Been there, done that. Back in the 80s when I first got started in re-enactment all the history books described Cuir Bullion as leather boiled in oil. I tried it, resulting in crispy fried leather and everything I cooked in the same pan tasted awful. Never trusted a historian since then.
  19. have a look at Marc Carlson lots of useful info there. Personally I would use 10-12 oz for armour, when hardened it gives as good protection as 1mm mild steel but doesn't dent.

    Introduction

The dragon patch is coloured with fiebings and a woodwash for the horns and teeth. The wallet is done with acrylics, but it's now a couple of years old and the colour is getting patchy. Dave
