Kydex could also be an option, perhaps. I used a sheet of 0.093 for a back board for a gun case and I like it pretty well

Leather Belt Sizing Guide
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to bylinesupplyco's topic in How Do I Do That?
Jim has a great post on belts, very first pinned post in patterns and templates. I made a "Here, put this on" belt that goes from 24" to 64." I have the customer pick the buckle they want and put on the belt and write down the number that they cinched it to, then make that the center hole on their belt. Two holes on either side of that hole and voila, it fits. The numbers are only true to size on my vanilla buckle that I use for most everything, but the number they cinched it to is where it fits them and I make the belt to /that/ spot, then finish it as normal. Then it does not matter if they want a dinner plate or a plain center bar buckle. (P.S.) I only make belts for people in person, no phone orders or online or Facebook. It's too crazy otherwise, customers are nuts. -
Small Revolver Holster
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
What are you using for a stiffener in it, kydex? I used Kydex for a gun/guitar case that I made and I am right impressed with the stuff. -
Small Revolver Holster
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Josh, That is some top shelf work, truly. Both of those are some squeaky clean holsters. By chance, would you have pictures of the old paddle holster? I don't know why, but I have been on a paddle kick here lately and I am trying to soak up as many ideas as I can before I start tinkering. Red Bear -
Is there an alternative to line 24 snap setter
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to Tshepiso's topic in How Do I Do That?
This is the closest I could find. Right department, right price range. I've been looking at getting these myself. Snaps are not my friends. http://www.hobbylobby.com/Fabric-Sewing/Sewing-Quilting-Notions/Fasteners/5-8-Heavy-Duty-Fastener-Plier-Kit/p/109268-PU0603 It lists #5 and #105, but poking around, it looks like the #105 snaps might be Line 24 snaps.- 8 replies

0.5 tonne press okay for stamping?
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to Artificial Intelligence's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
My one ton press sets grommets with hardly any effort, so yours should be just fine. My workspace is too bouncy for setting snaps/rivets/grommets so I got the one-ton arbor press and I turned out 97 grommets with no real effort at all. Squashed the first one a bit too much and the bag was missing two of the washers so I got 97 out of 100 with good results. I think with snaps and rivets using hand tools I am at about 40% at the moment. I put off a lot of my projects until I got the press. -
First Holster
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to smilinjack's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The very first pinned post in "How do I do that?" will give you what you need for edges. Yours is definitely better than my first! -
Lacquer works if you just want to display them. Other than that, though, I wouldn't keep brass in any of the leather because of the corrosion it (the leather) causes. I only fill my loop-strips when I am on the range, ready to shoot the stages (Cowboy Action Shooting), any other time I leave the leather empty. To me, it just seems too much work. Clean the brass, lacquer the brass, coat the loops with Product X, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

A Fistful Of Gun Belts

I have a Uberti Cattlemen Hombre in 45LC with a 4 3/4" barrel. Very very nice gun, Bruno! -
Mcqueen Holster - Sort Of....
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to dikman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I was going to ask you about clearing the front sight, but I had figured you already had a plan for that. I'm going to give Red Cent's dye steps a try. All my browns look like wood grain. And the weirdest part is NFO does not darken leather for me. It does while wet, but once dry, it returns to the color it was before... -

Paddle Holster
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to jackd942's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Does anyone know where to get just the paddles? Well, let me be a leeeetle more specific. I can find Blade-tech, G-Force, and Blackhawk, but I am trying to find smaller, narrower paddles like Fobus uses for their mag carriers. I couldn't find any Uncle Mike's at all. -

Mcqueen Holster - Sort Of....
Red Bear Haraldsson replied to dikman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Gary, Dikman, I feel for you guys, truly. I didn't know it even extended to holsters, that's just sad. Hopefully all the major hurdles have been cleared for you now and you can go enjoy shooting! Red Cent, I saw your center picture on Facebook. Someone had posted that their new rig was on its way to them. I saw it and posted back, "Hey! That looks like Red Cent's work!" They confirmed it and gushed over it and you. Congrats to that! -

Good looking holster! Nice recovery on the screws, too. I have a question though... Holster certification and testing? Is your club there that picky? Most of the clubs in my area will tell new people about the 30 degree from vertical rule, but I cannot recall anyone actually /checking/ it. I'm not knocking anyone's desire to get it right, I just want to make sure I'm understanding what you're saying. Oh! Another query, what did you cut the Mid Brown with? I am actually quite partial to that red-brown tone. -

Wow, just went poking around that site, definitely some top-shelf stuff! Thanks Horselady! -
Short search (stuck at work, cannot do a detailed search) gave me this: http://www.csosborne.com/leatherpunches_1.htm C.S. Osborne has a button for specialty punches on that page, maybe they can help. Good number of people here like Osborne punches.
