  1. I don't like it. It... uh... I don't... uh, damn, is my jealousy showing again?! All kidding aside, very nice work!
  2. Wow, I'm making one! I'm going to use it to carry my brass from the unloading table during SASS matches. I think that I'll put a clip on mine so I can slide it on and off the gun belt
  3. Ack! My apologies, First link Gun Holster page! First link Pattern page is his easy-belt tutorial
  4. I do not believe there is any way to stop it. I've never seen leather 'tan' the same way twice. I believe you'll play merry hell trying to match those two lines together. There are just too many variables. I've watched one piece turn a fabulous nut brown (everyone has that ONE friend whose skin just tans beautifully (My Daughter)) and watched another piece off the same hide turn into that color reminiscent of the redhead who /tries/ to tan (Me.) I wish you the best, but I do not believe you're going to get repeatable results.
  5. Jim's comes right out of his holster tutorial. First link, pattern page. I'm getting ready to put it to the test for my next holsters.
  6. <<Rubs hands together maniacally>> Yes, YES! I see! Wonderful, marvelous. That will do nicely! Thanks, have a good weekend!!
  7. First things first, beautiful work, as always... (is my jealousy showing again?) My question is what percentage combination is the ox blood to the brown?
  8. Whoops! Turns out I ended up looking at the M-1938 Dispatch case. /That/ is what I am going to build... good luck on the map case! I might have had a little luck finding the acetate sheets: http://www.grafixplastics.com/downloads/Acetate_Stock_Sizes.pdf Maybe that will help someone.
  9. Try Grey Ghost Graphics. http://greyghostgraphics.com/ http://store.greyghostgraphics.com/makerstamp.aspx $80 top price, top size 2" Since you did not bother to define 'crazy amount' you are liable to get all kinds of replies. You may want to consider also an arbor press. Harbor Freight has them pretty cheap. If you're looking at doing 500 of these, it would be well worth it in my opinion. GGG can make a mallet stamp or a press stamp, no worries there. Whoops, my apologies. Those prices are for vanilla Maker's Stamps. I did not see a price window for custom graphics, but I would give him a call and see what he can do. Nice guy, quick shipping. I ordered my stamp on Black Friday (Day after turkey-day) and had it in my hand that very next Tuesday.
  10. I'm going to build one. That thing is just too cool looking. Found a couple of good online places selling replicas and a couple of places to get the lift-the-dot fasteners. Going to get my geek on and make it big enough for RPG books.
  11. Hoo, I'm liking that there wheelgun! Good looking work! Keep it up, more, more!! ((This from the guy who spends more time posting than making...!!))
  12. You cut the stain to lessen the amount of color you are putting on the leather. Basically making the color lighter. NF is neat's foot oil. Lining is a matter of preference.
  13. I actually use my coffee table, and sit everything right on the corner over the leg, but then, there is the carpet and the pad underneath.... I have to imagine some of it is the carpet, pad and table because I do rivets on the kitchen floor. (Another reason I want the press) The table itself is monstrously sturdy, wife found it at an apartment where the people were moving out and going to throw it away. I've had me and my brother both standing on it to put up a ceiling fan, and that's pushing 600 pounds between the two of us. Thus the Chef Boyardee reference earlier...
  14. Beautiful job Bruno, absolutely beautiful. How does the Texas Star concho strap fasten in the back? Are they two separate holsters for the same belt? You are your name, my friend, Bruno, you Rock!
  15. All righty Jim, I have a couple of questions. Figures 25 and 26 show making the marks for the slots for the loops... How much wider than the holster should the slot holes in the skirt be? It looks like you are holding the pattern down flat to the table to make the marks on the skirt and on the skirt you mark where the edge of the holster sits... do the slot holes stick out from under the holster on the pattern? Ugh, I'm tired, I cannot tell if this even makes any sense. I'm mixing your tutorial, Will Ghormley's "Johnny Ringo" rig and Red Cent's reverse sewn holster. It is a bit ambitious for me so I am trying to get all the questions hammered out first. Any help is greatly appreciated, Red Bear P.S. Hey, did you get pictures from the P-51 flight at the beginning of the month?
  16. That and the Sheridan Carving section of the forum here...
  17. Welcome to SASS and one of the best hobbies around! Gear looks good from here. Congrats on a job well done!
  18. I actually have the bounce problem with my deadblow hammer. My stamp is all Delrin (I got mine from Grey Ghost Graphics). I'm guessing the hammer (only 16 ounce) is making the stamp jump. I'm planning on getting an arbor press and a stamp meant to go in the press so I can just lean all my Chef Boyardee on it and not have to worry on bounce. I want it for other things, too, of course. But, with the maker's mark and the fine detail in it, I cannot feel where it is sitting in the impression like you can with the big 3D stamps. (Mind you, I think I have hit my maker's mark maybe ten times so far...)
  19. I'd say finding it in Tucson makes sense since there are mountains nearby and San Antonio does not, but we have it in Walmart here in Jacksonville, FL and we just celebrated the 25th anniversary of the last time it snowed here...
  20. Hooray! Another Jim Simmons file to download! Between him and Hidepounder, my work has climbed immeasurably. Good, clear directions and great patterns. Now, that is some mighty fine work you have done there! I do believe when I decide to change pistols to a matched set that I will go with a pair of 1872's (for now I am running a Uberti Cattleman Hombre and an EAA Bounty Hunter, both in .45 Colt). Your guns are just too pretty for words. Love the clean lines and smooth edges on the holsters. Fabulous work you've done. Did you put toe plugs in the holsters? I've never been a fan of the Slim Jim holsters, but those have struck a chord in me, those are going to be my next buy, I feel it coming (along with the knot on my head the wife is going to give me!).
  21. The two thicknesses might help. I discovered the 'radius turn' problem when I was making a butt-stock sleeve for my rifle. Made a form out of paper, got all the lines straight and even. I even cut it straight (which is a first for me). Then I wrapped the 8-9 oz leather around the stock to find it an inch short on each side. Not being one to throw out such a nice sleeve, I'll tool it up and put it on the grandson's BB gun. Here's what you could try: First go here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19338 This post is by Jim Simmons, download the file he attached and read it up. In it he explains how to glue up the lining on a holster. A belt will be very similar, but if glued in a curve, it will always hang in a curve (but, if done correctly, there will be no wrinkles!). Then go here: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=18101 This post is by Hidepounder, aka Bob Park. Download his file and read that one up. In it, he explains how to get a good smooth edge on your work. Just from these two files, your work should grow by leaps and bounds. I have a list of people here as long as my arm that I use for advice. But, in my opinion, for a beginner, those two files are must haves.
  22. Hooray!! A non-stitched loop belt! Gorgeous work as always. My work is not as pretty, heck, even my pictures are not as pretty!
  23. RVM45, I'm stealing that line, that's a keeper! Josh - as always, great job!
  24. This seems to have changed, I see the link and the little green plus sign, but it won't let me link a site. Anyone have the directions?
