Very nice job! I like the heart on your stamp....very classy. I also like the hair-on that you ised for your gusset. I'm sure your bride is going to love it. Congrats!!

My technique is to ensure my edges are STRAIGHT. I use a stationary belt sander to ensure the edges are straight and square. I use a sewing machine 99% of the time, but whether you are using an awl or thong chisel, I think it would help you to make a couple passes with a stitch grover. This will help you keep a little more straight and allow for a "sweet spot" for your stitch holes. As I said, this is my technique. I'm sure there are many more.

A couple photos of some bible covers I made for the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys. They had a rodeo bible camp locally. Kids between the ages of 12-18 spend 3 days fine tuning their rodeo events with champion instructors.....good organization. These covers are sun-tanned with some neats-foot oil. (They still need a couple more hours in the sun to absorb the oil.) I made and pressed the logo into the front. Hopefully these will last some kids a lifetime.

IMO oil and sun is the easiest and most beautiful way to add color to your leather.

I have used fiberglass before.....just an idea.

I agree. I have applied Tan-Kote over autographs with an airbrush....works great.

I use a Barry King maul.

I get my best imprints using my maul. The secret to a good impression with delrin (ecytel) is to make sure the leather is cased properly and you a have a good surface under your leather ie marble or granite.

Ya know David, I have thought about doing that, but there is not money in it. These producers buy the cheapest award saddles. The makers mass product them and use crap for material. Just not a market I want to be in.
