What Exactly Is An "eps" (Electronic Positioning System)?
venator replied to Johanna's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Any way to add one of these to my Adler? -
No, I have to push the manual release button on the plate in order to release tensino.

So I have a DA 467 and the thread tension on the upper thread seems insane. I have to wrap it around my fingers to get enough traction to pull it through and often when I try to pull a piece away from the machine after stitching the upper thread breaks. How much tension should be up there? This seems absurd. . .

So I'm getting quite frustrated, I have a Durkopp Adler 467 and I'm attempting to sew a briefcase handle (two pieces of 4oz dyed vegetan) and the damn top thread keeps breaking when I reverse. Sometimes it'll make one or two reverse stitches and then it breaks. The tension seems crazy high as I can barely pull the thread through by hand but if I set it any lower I end up with a Mess of thread at the bottom of the piece. I'm using 207 bonded nylon thread. The tension on the bobin thread seems fine as I can easily slide it out by hand. It only seems to be doing it on these pieces of leather. Everything else I try it seems to work, though my reverse stitches always pull the thread through on the bottom. Help? Stu

Some Wallets I Made
venator replied to venator's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
In this case it's a Durkopp Adler 467 I bought from Nick-O-Sew. Honestly they were fantastic to deal with (which is impressive because I was a dick unfortunately due to other things that were going on) and the machine is great. I couldn't be happier. -
Some Wallets I Made

I do the same thing with the bag stiffener, for little objects like this it's nice to throw together witht he leather and machine. Fro the cutting, dyeing, and stitching it took maybe half an hour of my time. -
Some Wallets I Made

I love having the machine, it makes doing up prototypes easy and practical. If I were to make and sell these I might hand stitch but that's so time consuming when you're just playing with ideas it can be prohibitive. -

What's an example of a solvent based sealer?

So I just got a durkopp addler 467 from nick-o-sew, great folks by the way, and I'm Having issues with reverse. If you look at the picture you'll see a flawless reverse on the top right but a messed up weird thread bundle on the top left. I have no idea what causes this. Any help is appreciated. The only thing I can tbink is that it's at which part of the stroke I begin my reverse but I can't seem to find the sweet spot to start to avoid it.

With the wool lined flap do you flip the edge and glue/stitch or just cut the wool and edge dressing it?

I'm looking to make a handle like this for a briefcase http://www.chestermox.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/325x450/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/h/a/handlebw_2_1_1_1.jpg Does anyone have a cutout that I could print to make this easier? I hate freehanding stuff as I'm not really that artistic in that sense. . .

I appreciate all the feedback. I might be leaning more towards the Juki now. We were going to get a Cowboy 4500 but the price difference between that and the juki makes me lean smaller. . .
-
Well the Adler has reverse so for $400 less I'll probably go that route. I'm just curious why the price difference?
-
I'm considering these two machines. Which would you recommend? The specs seem the same so I'm curious as to which is better. They're both reconditioned machines.

The picture on the front cover was one of the illustrations from inside. The Sagan quote was just due to his love of Sagan. -

Do you have a link on how to vinegaroon? -
So I made a book cover for a friend for Christmas, it was my first attempt and I'm fairly new to this so please hit me with feedback, good and improvables. Vegetan leather, medium brown antique stain, gold cova colour, resolene, and purple pig suede.
