  1. Hmmmm, no clue. I have been playing for years and never had a "burn" from the finish. I guess it would depend on the players style. I'll ask him, and let ya know! I guess if that was a real concern, you could coat it with a clear fill epoxy to make it smooth....just a thought. I've done that with carved leather floor tiles to keep them for getting worn, might work.....
  2. Art, I have NO idea what color the guitar is! We talked, he said go for it, I did.....Hopefully it will look good! The leather is actually laminated to the original pickguard, so it will attach with the original screws. I'll post pictures of theguitar next week after delivery.
  3. YUP! See Johanna's post just above! She takes checks too!
  4. Nice work Butch. The BW looks very clean. I love the Mexican braid, it's my favorite! I am sure your friend will be quite happy with it! I know I would be!
  5. Whoa!! Roger, once again I am in awe.......that rocks!
  6. Come on people....IT'S ONLY MONEY!!! You'll make more! DONATE!!!!! And maybe you'll get a really cool carving too!!!!!!
  7. OK, here is the finished piece...... BUT, I put a micrometer on the calfskin and I was wrong, it is 1.5 oz. Sorry, please don't be mad! The finish is Eco-Flo Range Tan with a coat of Super Sheen, then Eco-Flo Med Brown Antique Gel finished off with a couple of hand rubbed coats of good ol neet lac to keep it safe!
  8. Thanks! I like the way it turned out too! Hopefully the dye job will do it justice! No Colman, no skulls, he didn't want any, I tried....but alas...no joy!
  9. I know what you mean! Pictures NEVER do them justice!!!!

    Guitar Pick Guard

I was asked to make a leather pick guard for a friend and I got a chance to throw one together today. The only direction I was given was that he wanted something with an oriental flair. I think the Koi is perfect. I took the original plastic guard and laminated some 1oz calfskin on it then tooled it up. I haven't had a chance to dye and finish it yet, maybe tomorrow after work, but here it is, let me know what you think.
  11. Wow!!! Looks great! can't wait to see it tomorrow!
  12. Shirley, I agree with everyone.....Don't compromise! Your customer wouldn't want a compromise on quality of workmanship, why should we are artisans compromise on our earning a living. I too believe that if one person won't buy it at the asking price, one will. If not, then I CHOOSE to give it away, donate it, or just hang it on the shelf....But I CHOOSE! just my $.02
  13. Wow! Someday I gotta laern to do that! Simply SUPERB!!
  14. Sweet! Looks great David, and is a perfect filler for that rear area!!!! GREAT Job!

  19. and if you don't have a band saw (I do, but don't use it all the time....sorry Marlon, I'm a bit too far from ya!) use a jig saw. You will loose a little more leather because you have to use a pretty agressive blade, but it works well! Oh and be sure to put plastic down to collect the "dust" it makes superb embossing filler!
  20. Nice work everyone!! Clay, mine is coming! I just been busy! But I'll get it in!
