  1. Jim will be at the East hartford store and will be teaching a class. For more information call Bruce directly.
  2. I find it fascinating that in America, you must have a license to drive a car, work on electrical or plumbing, build a house or even carry a gun...... But ANYONE can have a kid, with out even so much as a training manual........
  3. I spoke with Jim yesterday and got the OK to post this here. Jim will be visiting the East Hartford, Conn. and Boston, Ma. Tandy stores in September!!!! That's right.....He's coming to NEW ENGLAND!!!!!!! He will be teaching a class at BOTH locations! I don't have any of the specifics for the class in East Hartford other than he will be there September 3rd and 4th. You can call Bruce Kabel the manager of that store for more information. The East Hartford store number is 860-289-9003. Jim will then be at the "Boston" (ok, really the Chelmsford store) location on Friday evening and Saturday (the 5th and 6th). He will be teaching embossing techniques. This class will begin Friday evening (Time to be determined as we get closer) and then go through most of the day on Saturday. The stores have limited class seating. I have a FEW seats remaining at this time for the class, but will have PLENTY of viewing (read: standing room ONLY!) space. You can call me at the store at 978-275-0596 for more information. PLEASE WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY TO CALL THE BOSTON STORE!!! This will be a GREAT opportunity to meet Jim and learn new techniques. Those who don't know, Jim doesn't make it up this way too often, so it may be some time before you get another chance!!! To see some of Jims' AWESOME work check out his website www.elktracks.net I hope to see a GAGGLE of you leatherworkers in September!!!!!
  4. OOOOps, I posted the finished project in another thread and forgot to put it in this one! Here ya go, let me know what you think!!!! I like the way it came out!
  5. Nicely done Tom! Good looking finished product! Thanks for sharing!
  6. You got it! I'll do that for ANY of my customers!
  7. This will be me in a few month i am sure!
  8. I just recieved my PIF from RDB today...It's SUPER COOL! I'll get a pic of it in use this weekend! It's a tool pouch for me to use in the store while giving classes, etc! THANKS soooooo much I'll get a lot of use out of it!
  9. Thanks for the welcome all! I am loving it here so far (what's this "winter" thing y'all keep talking about??). Anybody here remember the kid in the "Christmas Story" that'll be me in a few months!!! Johanna - my friends have taken to calling me ChowdaFrog, with my luck it will stick! I haven't been doing much sight seeing as work has kept me busy busy, but soon I hope to be able to see the area. I didn't make bike week this year but have been here for it before (rode from Oregon, aways back!) I did get to the beach last weekend for a couple of hours. Everybody was complaining about the heat? HEAT? oh well, y'all can laff at me when I bundle up like the Michelin man this winter (still not sure what THIS is!!!)
  10. Hey all, I know I have been absent of late, and no I don't have any new stuff to show off (I am done with the western cemetery clock and will get pictures this week!) But I have just relocated to New England to take over the "Boston" Tandy store. So know I am finally getting settled in, finding most of my stuff that is still in boxes and working my tail off! But, I wanted to let all of our members know I am still around and I should be getting back to work and have some stuff to critique soon. Also wanted to invite ANY members who are in the area to stop by the store and see me. Ya don't even have to buy anything! Being new to the area I am just looking to meet people who have the same passion for leather work that I have!!! I have learned TONS from everyone here and I am glad to be a part of this big family! So if ya get up into this neck o the woods, come by the store and meet the transplanted redneck! I'ts good to be back! I'll be around!
  11. Looks like you have a GREAT start there! Keep up the good work! And as for figure carving, practice practice and then practice some more. Most of all use the wonderful resources we have here in our community to learn, ask questions of, etc. A wise man once told me: "if you wanna be a good leather carver, ya gotta burn up some leather"! In other words POUND some leather, take the constructive critisism and apply it to your work, then pound some more leather. In no time you will see your skills grow and so will your enjoyment of the craft!
  12. Sweet Work Beez! Yeah that sunburst effect is killer! That is gonna be one wicked cool Triumph
  13. Nicely done Jordan. I have to jump on the "corner" bandwagon here as well. I don't do alot of stamped borders because of the corners, but now I see that it can be done. So....THANKS! And basketweave is the bane of my existence! Notice I haven't ever posted any! Cuz my only attempt have not been pretty. More Basket chunks than weave! Keep em coming my friend!
  14. Very nicely done! Good overall effect! Keep up the good work!
  15. Tom, as a fairly unskilled and new carver, I do whatever feels right. Most leaves get a single shot, some get a bit of a walk after, depends on the width of the leaf. I was also given the tip to go in at the end of the project and give em one more shot to help give them more pop. As far as I am concerned every piece I do is a practice piece, some get better, some don't. But carving is something I have a passion for, so practice is a good thing. Some day I hope to have half the talent as some of the individuals on this site! My favorite thing is to do something different. I know there are "traditional" ways to do types of carving, but I don't thnk I have ever seen the "Wrong" way to do it. Thanks to everyone for their kind words! I have decided to keep it light and add some antique to it. More pictures will follow soon I promise!
  16. Good looking seat Beez!!! Love that "double Vision" design. Good all around fit and finish! WOW!
  17. So I came up with an idea for a workshop on how to make a Leather clock. We held the first class yesterday at the store and although I only had one craftsperson there it was a rousing success. Here is my design and I will post pics of the attendees after it is finished (and I get permission) I don't know What colors I am going with yet, but I did punch the big hole for the clock works right in the center of it all right after this pic was taken. (ya know...that's a hard thing to do!) The design is simple, a square piece of leather, put down your design, v-gouge the sides, fold over and stitch..... Now to decide on a finish.....
  18. WOW...that is Fantastic! Gonna look awesome when it's done I am sure.... Great work! I love the skull as well.
  19. Freakin SUPERB! I love the sheridan and the "Basket weave" is to die for! Great work! As yours always seems to be!
