OK, here it is, my second attempt. I am happy with how it turned out, although I wish I had been able to use a seat pan that was symmetrical, but that is what the customer gave me to do it on, so, I did the best I could. I have included a pic of the original "pan" made by the customer to show you what I started with. And just for info the little flap in the front is for access tot he mounting bolt. All in all, for it being asymetrical, I think it turned out OK! Beeza and the others don't have anything to worry about.....YET!!! Lemme know what ya think.....

Latest project
Froghunter replied to Froghunter's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I think she was afraid she'd "spear" her hand with the uber spiffy one! The loop is a bit tight and the button in the wrong place!!!! Oh well, she still likes it! -
Hey don't blame me!!!!!!

Monthly Figure carving challenge (March)
Froghunter replied to ClayB's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Superb use of both patterns Clay! I wouldn't have thought of using them together either, but they almost look like the SHOULD be together! And a personal thank you to you as well. Your carving as well as some others here have really inspired me to work on my skills. Keep them beautiful works coming! (I may even try the zebra, even though it intimidates me a bit!) -

Monthly floral pattern (March)
Froghunter replied to ClayB's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Well, seeing as how my floral carving leaves (pun intended) much to be desired, I decided I should attempt as many of these as possible. Sorry no Zebra yet for the other contest, that one intimidates me just a bit. Anyways, heres my floral. As always I changed it up just a bit because I thought it needed it. (story of my life... always messin' up a good thing! Critic away! Oh, and I even added some color! -

Outstanding work! Keep them at it!!!!!!!! -
Well, after getting her motorcycle seat installed and being overjoyed, my wife showed me her worn cigarette case (Store bought soft leather...ICK!) and said it would be NICE to have a nice new one. Being the dutiful husband, and not enjoying fighting the dog for the warmest spot in the doghouse, I set to work. I based this on a couple I had seen, decided that my floral carving needed some work and set to it. After the initial design, I talked to the little woman and got some of her input (Needs a loop for fingers while carrying, needs to be able to attach to belt loop while riding, Lighter holder, etc.) so off to the drawing board once again. Well this is what I came up with. Used 5/6 oz so it will stand up, finshed with Eco-Flo medium brown antique gel and coated with leather sheen. She noticed the bad spot on the flap right off, but in true crafter spirit, she declared it "character" and exclaimed her delight in the finished product. I love it when the customer is happy! What do you think?

Kimber, The seat for the wifes, was actually a complete cover for a stock seat. Itookt he exisiting vinyl one off and used it for a basic pattern. The sit panels are 4/5 oz laminated with white embossed ostrich. The top is 5/6 oz. and is attached to the side panels via goat lacing in the mexican basketweave pattern. Also the lower side sovers which wrap around the bottom are 3/4 oz. and are saddle stitched to the upper side panels. If you can't take the cover off I would probably suggest a "Slip cover" type covering that will cover the entire exisitng seat, or maybe attach the carved piece using as "S" Needle to sew it to the exisiting seat cover. You should probably post some pictures of the seat and a request for ideas, there are many seat makers here that make mine look second rate. Their expertise and advice might just get you going in the right direction. Hopefully my novice advice will come in handy as well! Good luck! Can't wait to see your carving! and the finished product!

Well, after nearly three months, I have finally finished my wife's custom seat. It seamed to be one of those projects that kept getting put on the back burner. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the round braid holding it together (quite a daunting task!), but it is finally finished, and in time for Bike Week! My wife is ecstatic about the way it turned out, she LOVES it, and by the oooh's and aaaaah's we got tonight while out riding, so did a lot of other people. Here it is in all it's glory. Tell me what YOU think.
