I really like that a lot. As to the value as with most antiques it will depend on the market for that sort of thing. If I was the manufacturer, who I guess is still in business then id pay through the nose to get it back. take it to an appraiser of equine related antiques and see what they say...or antiques road show!

I used cotton balls and water. Small circles. We were issued 2 pairs of boots and one pair of shoes. One pair of boots were for work and always looked liked shit. The second pair were for parade and never got close to dirt! Always nice and spit polish....until it became an offense to spit on the Queens leather!. Shoes were for service dress only Number 1 uniform. I got a hold of a us cav mag and mail ordered in some shiny shoes. Problem solved!

Yeah the stuff they call glue tape. Very thin peel the paper back and stick one side down then peel the other side and stick the material down in that. Tap it down. Punch holes and stitch. I get mine from wallyworld

That's some good info right there! I'm always on the look out for old leather stuff, it would not have occurred to me to look for the darker spots for rubbing or handling to show some age. I also buy antique knives. Had a guy a few years back try to sell me a genuine ww2 Japanese commando dagger for only two hundred dollars! I told him that I didn't think the word Japan would have been stamped on the blade in English. This guy was good tho, told me the used combat dagger from ww2 was made for the export business. I told I was pretty sure that during ww2 we weren't buying anything from Emperor Hirohito during that time. He did not get my money.

she used paint, Michaels (pretty much our version of hobby lobby I guess) has paint that can be used for this purpose. I've also heard it marbling paint, do a google search and there are a few videos of people doing it

I was at a show fair last summer and I saw something really cool, a leather worker was selling wallets and trays and the like and they had a marble pattern on them. I asked how it was done and she used the same method that people use to marble paper for book binding. The results were awesome
