Hey guys just thought I would share what I did to my stitching pony. Im sure its been done before but oh well. The standard tandy stitching pony which is a very big pain in the butt IMHO to use. First took off the little wing nut. I left the bolt going thru the clamps but put a nut on the inside to keep it steady. Not sure if you need to leave it in there but I figured it would help keep them aligned. You could probably remove it. Then I covered the ends in leather and tacked them inplace. Other wise youll scratch up your work or leave marks. Then I got one of these http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=prod...&lpage=none I use that about 3 or 4" down from the top and I put the handle portion pointing toward me so that it doesnt catch the string or lace. There you have it. Sorry no pictures as I am without a camera right now. This atleast for me greatly improves the usability of the little stitching pony. Now I can sit back in my chair and stitch away.

Im currently making one that is a two piece, tooled with initials, padded and fully lined with suede. The leather is 5oz. Im doing this for a buddy at work and am giving him a good deal plus factoring in my lower experience with leather work am only charging $75. If I was doing this as a business and could turn out a little better quality I would have no issues charging $130 or so for this strap if not more. Thats probably still a good price considering the work going into it being hand stitched and all. Now this is just a estimate, not a laid out time with hourly figured and all that just a off the top of my head figure.

Those are pretty cool. The shark adds enough texture to add a little something to them. Good job.

Filling in structure of cruiser seat

Thanks, I figured it would work. I ended up not doing it and just cut a few pieces of neoprene to fill in the larger areas. Now I gotta finish the leather portion (the hard part). -

Ok new design!
MADMAX22 replied to jbird's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Looks real good overall. I like the one piece front molded to shape when it works out lol. My only suggestion if you dont mind is the back piece, I personally would make it one piece that folds over for the snap, that way you dont have to sew the flap on. I think it makes the back portion a little cleaner and you can cut it out of one piece of leather. -
Full Custom Wildey gun rig
MADMAX22 replied to DCKNIVES's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Question for ya, on the holster and other inlays did you double up the leather over the whole thing or just behind the inlay? It doesnt look like there is any stitching accross the top of the holster. Do you rely on glue to hold the double layer of leather if you use that. Thanks. -

Very nice looking belt and excellent job on the inlays. That does look like alot of stitching. Cool gun also, those are pretty rare arent they. I havnt heard anyone talk about those since I was a kid lol. -

Leather Weight for Motorcycle Seats???
MADMAX22 replied to kbeach's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Revival time. Was wondering, would you guys that like to tool good and deep and what not would you recommend about 7oz for the top or center portion and then say 4/5oz for the sides so that it will mold easier. Do you guys think this will look funny at all or should it work out or should I go with 4/5oz all the way around. -

Looks good swivel. Nice clean construction, and great job on the dragon carving. What did you use to color the dragon? -

Im with gary on this one. So far I picked up a pack of the assorted wood chisel (they are pretty heavy duty) and they will slice thru leather like noones business. Punch a hole at each end then use the chisel, I make sire the flat part of the chisel is pointed out toward the work. THis isnt a perfect solution as I usually end up cleaning it up a tad with the xacto where the chisel and hole punch marks line up but other then that it looks pretty darn good.

Looks really good. Im using similer stuff. Neoprene. Pretty much the same idea. I am glad you like it, means Im on the right track. Annoying how bad the stock yammie seats are, they are like the first aftermarket thing that anyone gets. Thanks for the offer on the stock foam but I wont need it. So far mines coming along nicely. -
OK so I am doing one of those big ol cruiser seats, its a star roadliner (yamaha) but anyways the seat pan has alot of raised plastic that makes up I guess to help deal with rigidity. I am redoing mine and cant use the stock foam (previouse experiment dont ask) so was wondering what is the best way to fill in all the pockets. Ive been racking my brain and besides cutting out little pieces individually I was thinking of using some of that foam in a can stuff that you can get at lowes. Its for sealing windows and stuff. Thought maybe spray it into all the pockets, let it expand and dry, then take the electric knife to it and cut it smooth with the top of the rest of the plastic on the seat pan. THinking this will give me a nice even surface to start layering my neoprene for the seat. Any other ideas. Also sorry I dont have a camera at the moment.

Very nice, great combos of color and such. I did my first revers color on a wallet this week. Looked really cool. Was easier then I thought it was gonna be and I love the effect. -
Pics of holsters that i make
MADMAX22 replied to IHL's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Those are some real nice holsters. Really clean and attention to detail is superb. Also great pictures as well. -
Looks outstanding, the swivel knife work on the skull really adds to the over all affect. Whats the width of the lace you used for the edge, it looks pretty wide and I must say that it looks really good.

That is actually one of the hardest parts most of the time, planning out your project. I know it is for me anyways.
