  1. Thanks.... I tend to agree with you.....I really like that belt pattern.....nice work. Maybe I should invest in some BK stamps.....
  2. Thanks both of you .... I think, to start out I will be getting the 812 .... Barry Kings are nice but $$$$$..........
  3. Hello all .... I need a small basketweave stamp to use on small areas... ie......spur leathers etc. is the vintage Craftool x501 small? It is hard to tell by photos on line. I haven't had a chance to get into Tandy. Thanks for all advice and info........df
  4. Big Sioux....pm sent
  5. Hello All.......I have a Cowboy 3200, and have been sewing with 207 & 277 black and white thread that I purchased from Neels when I bought the machine.....I have since purchased a 1/2 lb. spool of red 207 off ebay.......It does not seem to stitch as nicely as the thread I purchased from Neels. Is it my imagination, or could a cheaper/less quality thread cause problems? Thank you for any and all info. and advise.........Don
  6. Hello All.......Are there any saddle makers out there who have any extra sheepskin scraps from their saddle making they would be willing to get rid of? If so, shoot me a PM and let me know cost, etc..........my zip is 89460 Thanks..........Don
  7. I like the Cowboy. There is a bit of a learning curve, especially when you are changing thread as well as thickness of leather. I would recommend it, especially at the price.
  8. Thank you jh ... It is sewn on Cowboy 3200 with 207 nylon bonded thread, and using an edge guide. I do not "groove" a stitch line, but I do scratch a line in that may help seat the thread a bit. I did not back stitch on this wallet (although I have on others).....I snip the thread ends and then singe with a lighter.
  9. Thanks gentlemen for the information.......
  10. Hello All....I am sure this question has been asked and answered many times,, but a search came up somewhat empty.....what is the best contact cement you can buy? I am currently using Weldwood Red label, and for the most part it works just fine....with the exception on a belt where I used a light Horween horsefront glued and then sewn as a lining with a buffalo belt. It is separating just a bit at the buckle holes.......Maybe this is what will happen with any glue but just checking to see if there is a drop dead "best" contact cement....Thanks.........Don
  11. Hello All .... I finished up this Horween wallet......pretty simple design based on wallets I have owned (Saddleback etc.).......Horween Chromexel horsestrip & horsefront. Sewn on my Cowboy 3200. Not sure how it will wear....if it is too thick etc. I know that once this leather breaks it is wonderful.....Critique away!
  12. It says Edge Kote and then underneath is says Tan ...
  13. Hello All......I just order some Tan-Kote, and received Tan Edge Kote. Is it the same thing. Tried looking it up on google etc. and was unable to tell........Thanks......Don
  14. Thanks ....... I like the idea of a small hole at the end of the slot. I have seen that before. I'll use it next time. The Herman Oak leather I had for these was only 5 oz. or so....so I doubled it up....so yes, I guess they are lined with Herman Oak.....stitching was necessary.
  15. Thanks.......I cut them out by hand......Craftsman trimming knife with curved blade. No dye ... the Neatsfoot oil darkens the Herman Oak it to that shade and the Sno Seal waterproofs them.
  16. Hello All...I had some time and needed to make something for a friend who helped on our ranch this summer putting up hay......a pretty basic set of spur leathers.......Herman Oak.....Watt Buckle....Mont. Silver "C" ....NF Oil/Sno Seal. Critique away! ......... Don
  17. Yes. I looked at several videos that had the rod ...Rons ..the Tandy video ...and his video as well. Wasn't aware of his name...his is where I got the idea for the Micro Mesh and leather.. I have used micro mesh on pens for years......
  18. Hello All........After realizing that my edgers were in need of sharpening, I did a little research, and after gathering a bit of info. I fashioned this jig. 3 different sizes of rods glued to the board, a leather strop, and Micro Mesh from 2400 - 12000. Works nicely and what a difference a sharp edger makes.......Don
  19. I have one that I purchased this last summer and am still experimenting with it and learning its limits......Nice machine all in all......
  20. Both tensions are reduced together and then increased together...
  21. Yes, and that does help, but still get the "sucked up stitch" look......I'll keep experimenting .... There has to be a combination of tensions that will work.
  22. Hello All ... I have a Cowboy 3200, and I have a queston re. stitching several layers. For instance, when stitching several layers putting together a wallet, the stitch seems to disappear into the leather like it is too tight.....My thread tensions are all the way backed off......I have been experimenting with different tensions etc.....When I stitch a single layer or two lighter layers, the stitch is real nice....thick seems to make the stitch shorter and sucked up into the leather.......any suggestions or adjustments to make. Thanks........Don
  23. Thank you very much for this......a great go to when there is a question!
  24. Absolutely beautiful........!
