Easy way to cover swells? Well I will be waiting on that responce also. But from someone who has done quite a few of these, none are easy. The wade trees seem to be the easy ones as the swells are not very big, like an old A-fork. But the larger style like the bowman style does take some nack, patients, skill and a little good luck mixed in. There is no better way to learn than to just jump in with both feet and get r done. Welcome aboard, great place to learn, share and make friends. Randy

The first thing I would suggest you do is contact the dept of Revenue in the state that you live. They are the ones that issue the sales tax number that you will need before you get anything else. Where I live I do not need a business licenses just the sales tax number. As long as the state gets their share they will not bother you. Then check with the county or city where you reside to see what kind of license requirements they have. If you are a home based business chances are you will not need a license but it is best to check first. That sales tax license will allow you to buy wholesale from places like Weavers and Ohio Travel bag. Worth the hassel. Randy

Wow, I got mine a couple years ago and thought that 200.00 was too much to pay. Does anyone know what happened to John Hopper? I have heard stories that he is in prison for muder. Unknown if that is true. I tried to contact someone refernce the book but ran into a dead end every were I went. Even the publisher is no longer in business.

Mobile phone cases
Randy Cornelius replied to UKRay's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I make mine basicly the same way. I have taken a router and made molds. Case the leather real good and clamp up and let set for a couple hours then open the mold and let dry while still sitting in the mold. I have two molds that do just about all the phones that have came my way. Sorry but I am out of town and cannot post pictures at this time. Randy -
I am sure that they are refering to apron splits but some people just don't know what they are talking about. I just thought I would throw it out there and see what I got. I had never seen real mule hide leather advertized but I don't claim to know everything. Randy Boy this topic got way off .....

I have been asked to make several pair of horse shoeing chaps out of Mule Hide. I have checked around and not finding it listed with any of my suppliers. Does anyone know where I might find it, if it is still available. Thanks Randy

Some of my first attempts at sheridan carving
Randy Cornelius replied to bebah's topic in Floral and Sheridan Carving
You know that is really not that bad. But here are a few suggestions to improve. First work on your decortive cuts. Bevel out from the flower center. you can do this with other tools but they do make a flower center beverler that really works good. Also try coming up from the center of the flower up the peddle with a camofloge tool with some light marks that will give it depth along with the flower center tool. Also use the end of a smoth veiner to make stops where the lines go into the center of the flower that forms the peddles. I will try to remember to post some pictures of what I am talking about later on. Keep up the good work. Randy -
The Columbus show and some new stuff

I was one of the judges that judged your dragon seat, very nice work. Randy -
There is little to decide, go with the Artisen you will not regret it. I bought mine 3 years ago and have never regreted it. Jerry and Steve and great people to work with and give lots of free support. Randy

Speaking of being bumped, there was a man entering his braiding the same time as I was entering my projects. He had never been to a show before and this was his first year at any Federation event. The head judge Ros came and looked at his work and stated he had to be put in the Masters, I felt it was not right but did not say anything. He took first place in his class! It was very good. The way it works is that if your work is good you can get bumped up so as to give others a fair chance of winning. They want you to compete with others of the same or equal ability. Randy

Tippmann Boss questions
Randy Cornelius replied to LeatherworkingNovice's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I have a Boss sitting in the corner of the shop covered with dust. You will find that you will spend more time tinkering with the Boss trying to get it to sew a nice stictch than you will actually sewing with one. Take the money and put it toward an Artisen 3000 you will never regret it. -
After checking apparently this is false, there is no plans to release cell phone numbers at this time. I am sorry I sent this out as it came from a reputable sourse. The excitment was over a plan to create a 411 cell phone directory ass. that cell phone users could opt in if they choose to. The information about the do not call list was good and it will not hurt to register all your phone, cell and land line. Again there is no plans to release cell phone numbers by any of the major cell phone companies. Randy

The federal government is releasing all cell phone numbers to the telemarketers starting today. Here is the link to register your cell phone with the federal do not call list, www.donotcall.gov You can also register your land line phone also. You can also register by phone by calling this number from the phone you want blocked, 1-888-382-1222. It says it is from the Kansas Attorney Generals office but it will work with any number. Please pass this information along to everyone you know. Randy

leather glue
Randy Cornelius replied to Monticore's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
The best stuff that I have found for small projects to glueing edges down until they can be sew is a product called Fabri-tac. It is a clear glue that comes in a 4 oz squeese bottle. You can buy in at Walmart in the craft section, or any other craft store like hobby lobby. It drys fast and holds very well. I use it to glue my lace when I splice it together and it will hold pulling lacing through the slits. I don't know what I would do without it. Randy -
If you have not made chaps before I would suggest that you get Dusty Johnson's video , it come with a pattern pack that tells how to make adjustments that works very well and get you started in making all kinds of chaps. You can order them direct from Duty's web site and Hidecrafters used to carry it. That would be my suggestion to get you started. Randy

"What in the heck do this do?" Installment Two
Randy Cornelius replied to Prince's topic in Leather Tools
You have one of the true "TANKS" of the sewing industry. I have one as I thought I would get into making boots. It will sew belts, holsters, anything that has an edge to sew. Do not try to sew saddle skirts. The wool will get wound up on the awl and you will have a mess. Yours is just like mine and I have the orginal manual that I would be glad to copy and send. Parts and everything are still available through Pilgram shoe. Also any shoe repair supply company will have needles and awls. Good luck it will be an adventure. Find a shoe repair shop close to you that may have one and pick the guys brain on working on this machine. The heat was for when they would put solid bee's wax in the wax pot and melt it to lubricate the thread. -
I have had someone in the Kansas City area requesting a custom made english saddle. If anyone is interested email me and I will put you in touch. Not sure of any specifics as I do not make english saddles. Randy corneliusaddlery at yahoo dot com
