  10. Welcome to the forum! Your story is exactly what happened to me. Good luck and have fun!
  11. kinda hard to determine, but my guesstimation would be that you are looking at 2-4 oz.
  12. It looks good. One of newest things that I am seeing out there is the smooth texture around the seed pod. Just remember to keep your tooling unique to your way of tooling. You can study all the books and videos and see what others are doing, but take a little here and a little there. Trying using different tools. I would work on your swivel knife cuts and beveling. You need to concentrate on fading your cuts like those that come into the seed pod. Your beveling should mimic your cuts meaning they should fade from a hard pounding to a light pounding. Finally, work on walking your thumbprint from heavy at the back pedal and fade towards the pod. Keep up the good work!
  13. I have some, but this stuff has been in storage and is pretty stiff. No holes or scars just not wimpy in feel. Send me a message and let me know width and length you need and make me an offer. I will check.
  14. I use black and brown oil Fiebing's dye and use Clear Lac or Wyosheen as my resist. Two things that I do from lessons learned before applying the resist. make sure to brush or polish the dyed parts after it dries to remove any residue. There will be some residue. I actually do it after applying each coat of dye to show where the dye did not penetrate well. The other important step is allow the oil dye to dry and dry well. This has worked out well for me.
  15. Nice work and wood......You'll get tired of that screw very soon. You might want to consider having the hubby cut off the excess.
  16. Whatever works I say. I looked at the ad and I do not know if I would say this is a traditional ulu knife. How you are going to cut your leather with this survival knife?? I know a person that uses an ulu in leathercraft. Since this is my hobby, cost is a major factor. Here is a link to what I think of an ulu: http://www.knives.net/ULUPAGE.htm
  17. It looks okay. If I may make a suggestion.......I would take a different border stamp and stamp around the ring of your maker's mark. It do this often. It will cover up the dead space you are considering covering the blank areas.
