And you will spend more $$ just because of the sheer quality. Unfortunately, most of us end up spending twice as much since we all start with the cheapies and end up upgrading once we learn what actually works best or better. Good luck

That looks a lot like Freddie's work. You can also use a stitch groover and get the same results as he does. I think Bruce mentioned it in his response.

Beautiful stuff....Welcome to the forum!

Try Clay Miller on here.....he makes custom tools.

I echo what Art said......Call Vandy at S/O, she is very helpful! Unless you buy Douglas tools or a couple of other high end tools remember that care of your tools will be needed. Sharpening and maintaining your tools is required. The sharper the awl blade the easier it will pierce your leather. I use a Tandy, Hidecrafter and C.S. Osborne awl. I haven't had one brake on me yet.

That came out pretty cool. I left my big block untreated. Another small block that I made for my swivels, I stained and finished it. I haven't had any problems with it. Good luck

I received a recipe from a local leather crafter several years back for applying a finish to the edges. His recipe was a simple mixture of resolene and atom wax. Since I work on small projects, I do not use a lot, so I usually mix in a little salsa (to go) cup what I need. I use a 4 part resolene to a 2 part wax mixture. I will apply it twice. I have never had any problems or chipping as you mentioned. Hope this helps.

Aggiebraider You should have brought it to the leather guild meeting for show & tell. What an awesome piece. Please see if you can bring it to the February meeting........who knows.......your GF's father may end up with a side business making kits. Lol

The pullman case and iPad sleeve show some really nice work. Thanks for sharing! -
I like your first design. My suggestion was to be careful with your spacing. If you are considering this design, I would suggest enlarging each hole to at least 3/4" to 1".

Can you post where you are located, if CONUS? That way maybe someone close to you can help you out instead of having to depend on internet instructions.

I really like the design overall especially for the beginner and weekend home depot personal. Just a word of caution from something I learn when I made my block. Be careful to allow enough space between the tools especially the smaller size shafts. When you get better at your tooling and faster, you will go to retrieve a tool or put a tool back and the neighboring tools may teach you a lesson for ignoring them. A pinched, gouge or pricked finger. I have learned that this comes from having the tools too close together. If you haven't seen Peter Main's tool block or Bob Park's stamp block.......they have seemed to got it together and worked these issues out. Either way, I applaud you for coming up with this design for everyone on here. Good luck. I really like the design overall especially for the beginner and weekend home depot personal. Very nice job.

IMHO.....it depends on the quality and sharpness of your tool. A good quality sharpen tool will cut through wet or dry leather.
