  1. Finally got a chance to get these shot. Both use a red felt liner.
  2. Absolutely right! The problem with the kits is that the leather is not always the best. Bets to use the kit as a pattern. I keep matte board around and make my own long term patterns from that. Nice work on the skulls. Storm
  3. Thanx. We have started calling it Pyrocarving (Thanx to Hiloboy) It starts out with figure carving and then goes to the pyrography and is followed by dye. Next step is going to be acrylic washes to ad subtle color and realism. Storm
  4. Perhaps if you were to miter the corners of the leather that would help. Or maybe but it in a nice frame which would give you a clean look and make it easiear to hang. The guitar back is awesome. I would continue with your beautiful florals. I know that Al Shelton, here in North Hollywood, has been working on a guitar cover for the president of either Martin or Gibson guitars for over two years now. You have a beautiful piece there!
  5. Got my latest stuff in a shop on consignment and they want more to put in the case. I am going to get a set of coasters and a sunvisor for them for the weekend.
  6. Hey that looks really cool. Guess we shouldn't call them scraps...just small project pieces. Nice idea! Storm
  7. That whole seat is sick! Very nice airbrush work. What are you going to seal it with? Storm
  8. Thanx Spider! I had these two and another carving on wood and the check book cover placed in a cool fly fishing shop on consignment this morning. They said that they wouldd like to see some more pieces. Storm
  9. Really like the bag and the lace whip stitch really sets in all off. Hope we see more. Storm
  10. Hey Hermano(brother), Maybe different from your usual but none the less very nice work. Storm
  11. This is the finished fly wallet exterior vlosed and open. It is lined with shearling wool. The other is another fish I disd last night.
  12. Some stuff I created today. It has a lot of possibilities. Will show them when totally finished. Storm
  13. Very sweet skull and airbrushing! Love to see it on the bike when you're done Storm

    New Fish

The funny thing was that some actually thought that the mounted one was a fish I had caught and wanted to know where I had caught it. Don't envy them Tom...you can do the same thing. Besides if you are making rod cases then you should market some leather fly wallets with wool fleece linings to keep the flys. Would go well with the rod case you made recently.

    New Fish

I have read the same thing about the smell but was surprised to find that it was not the case. I was using top quality veg tanned cowhide and I hardly notice any offensive smell. Perhaps it is the burner I am using or maybe I hadn't bathed yet that day and the smell was not that different from my overall ambient fragrance. LOL! Just joking. I do not spent good money for my Obession cologne to smell like the burning backside of a branded cow. I will be looking for a new more high end burner if the new project works out. They may put out a lot more heat than my fixed heat unit. It is just like a soldering iron but with interchanging tips. This one cost me US$17.00 and the others are in the $200 $300 range with power control dials.

    New Fish

I carve them then I use the burner and then finish it off with a desert tan stain. I am going to take it farther by carving, then burning and then painting with acrylic washes.

    New Fish

I am putting together some fly wallets for fly fishing and other assorted pieces for a Fly Fishing shop I know. The mounted piece is going into the shop as original art and the other two were practice pieces. These were the first three I have done.
  18. Very nicely done!!!! Where did you find the cool skulls?

New approach to carving and detailing
  20. Very nice. Love the little spider stamp. Nice signature piece.
  21. Worked this up last night for a new knife that had no home.
  22. Love this piece. Especially the pattern you have created on the background. How did you come to that one. It is beautiful and original. Storm
  23. I totally agreewith what J has said. Tandy used to have a high end swivel knife similar to the stacked leather Stohlman but discontined it. You are always going to remember the price you paid for a crappy piece of equipment but will only rave about a superior piece of equipment. Years and years ago I thought about getting into leather carving (7th Grade) but the swivel knives they had for the class were this side of painful to use. Another thought is to learn to sharpen and strop your blades and you will also see less strain on your hand and a metal blade will have far less drag than ther ceramics I was using for years. Storm
  24. Tres Cool!
  25. My heavens! That is a finely crafted piece of steel. Thanks for sharing. Your sheath and stand compliment it totally. Storm
