I have the wood from Osborn, It works very good . It leaves more of a burnished look then the metal ones. It does depend on how you use it. When I am dyeing my belts black I rather use the metal one I have. Like I mention, the wood leaves a burnished look, looks much better with the browns or natural colors.

I am not sure how their creasers are, but they take for ever to deliver what ever you buy. I don't have the patience to wait that long.I am in my third week waiting for an order. Jim

I just had the same thing happen to me, only it wasn't an Osborn, it was a no name e-bay punch. I wish I had read this post a few weeks ago. After my punch bent, I purchased an Osborn ,English point. I haven't received it yet, I hope my luck is better then yours. I thought Osborn stood behind their name? I would give them a call.

How would that work for a belt? I just can't seem to get it right.

I don't have a sewing machine and I never lined a belt. My question is, after you cut a glue you're lining, do you put a stich line and use a stich spacing wheel or do you use a punch? If using a punch do you go through both sides or one side and use an awl ? Go easy on me folks, I am new to this. Jim

I purchased this maul on e-bay, it was part of a package of old leather workers tools. I must say, I feel that I did well with it. There was a total of about twenty tools. About six of them were old Osborn tools. My question is, would it be worth it to buy a new rawhide head for this maul? I use it the way it is, for punching oblong holes for belts. I love the looks of it, I am not sure what the antique value of it is. I can't read any name on it. I have a feeling it is from Osborn. It weighs 6 lbs. I am not sure if I can get the old head off. Can someone give me some feedback on this? I hope the pictures download. Jim

I HAVE AN OSBORN 1INCH, I LOVE IT.I ALSO USE A 6 LB HAMMER. I HAVE AN OAK LOG THAT I DO ALL MY PUNCHING ON. I CAN PUNCH HOLES 3 O' CLOCK IN THE MORNING And my wife can't hear it.

Bigfoot, I found that out the hard way. I used an air brush with oil base dye.It went through the resist. I stamped a border and wanted to keep the center lighter then the edges. I used Show Brown for the edge and Light Brown for the center. I gave it two coats of Supper Shine for the Resist,I let it dry overnight. I didn't get what I wanted, but it came out a highlited show brown, It is an interesting looking brown. Jim

Thank you very much JLSleather. You gave me the answer that will help improve my situation. Most of the belts that I cut are under 60". I am a new to the whole leather world, I haven't tried to sell at any of the outside markets yet. The only holsters that I make are used for metal detecting tools, like pinpointers. I like to use 6oz for them. I guess dog collars would be my best bet and belts for kids. Thank you all. Jim

TRY BUYING A FEW BELT BLANKS FROM TANDY. YOU MIGHT WANT TO START OFF DOING A FEW BORDER STAMPS OR A STRIGHT BASKETWEAVE. AS MENTIONED ABOVE?, TANDY IS A GOOD PLACE TO START.DON'T BUY TO MANY TOOLS UNTIL YOU DO SOME MORE RESEARCH , THAT IS WHERE I MADE MY MISTAKE.HAVE FUN KEEP TRYING. I purchased a nice pice of leather from W & C. My problem is that I only want to make belts. When I cut my blanks they are 91 inches on the average. I am coming up with a lot of waist. I can make dog collars and braclets, I dont have that many people who want them. I do this mostly as a hobby and for family and friends. Can someone tell me how to save on the waist? Jim

Check out the web site Guns&Knives, Them Guys and Gails really get into it. I ordered a few stones and a DVD. The DVD is made by Murray Carter. He is a 7th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith. He takes you through the whole process of freehand sharpening. He has two DVDs out that I know of. I got the one called Blade Sharpening Fundamentals, there is a more advanced one. After watching the DVD, I realized how little I knew about sharpening. There is 2 hours and 51 minutes of information on how to sharpen blades. It is a good refrence tool. Jim

I also purchased the HF Airbrush and was using the same 50/50 mix as you were, Bariqua. I was also running the mix through a pair of my wife's stockings. The air brush was spitting then clogged. I then purchased the Neo TRN-2 pistol grip airbrush, `what a difference, it has a much larger nozzle. No clogging, it gives a nice even coat.I'am still using the HF compressor on 20 or 30, works great. I have the Fiebings book of Top Finishes, it has Tan-Kote, mix with water if using a sprayer. It doesn't mention how much water. It does say that you can mix a small amount of dye with the Tan-Kote and water. I haven't tried it yet.It says, you can mix Bag Kote with up to 20 % water. I used it and it worked fine. The Acrylic Resolene seems to be thinner with the 50/50 water mix then the Bag-Kote.I do love the way the air brush workes with dyes, comes out great. Jim
