  1. Hi Johanna,

I wanted to buy a Robert Beard stamp, I called a number that was posted on a web page. I man called me back and he said that he was Robert Beard. This guy talked my head off, he told me that he would make anything that I wanted. He was a very good talker and I felt that I was about to be taken. I heard that Robert was a very busy man , would he talk 5 min. trying to sell one of his stamps? He gave me his cell # and told me to draw or send him a picture of any design I wanted. He told me a lot of things that I already know about Robert Beard from reading articles on this site. He also told me I could give him my credit card # if I felt comfortable with that. I of course told him no I don't. He said it would be about a year, which I know that to be the case.I gave him my # and address,  Does this sound like Robert Beard to you?

Thank you Johanna, I hope I am not putting you on a spot.

    Jim

Well, that sounds like Bob. If you want to PM the phone number I'll see if it matches what I have. :)

I started laughing as I read your post. That sounds exactly like him.

  2. Wow, that doesn't look good. I also tried the dye prep. It made my leather a shade darker then without the prep. Otherwise I didn't see any difference. I don't know how big a piece of leather you are working with. Try putting prep. on your whole piece, brush it in with a small brush, wipe off excess and dye while it is still wet with the prep. I wouldn't do it with a large piece of leather, I wouldn't take the chance. I only used it on belts. I called Fiebings, they told me to dye while it was still wet. If you put the prep. down and let it dry, that might be the problem.Good luck, do a test piece. Jim
  3. I tried dye prep. on some scrap leather. The only thing that I noticed after dyeing with the prep was, the color was a little darker. I didn't like the way the darker color looked. On the dye prep. bottle the direction suggest that you dye your leather immediately after you apply the prep, while it is still wet. I called Fiebings and asked, I think his name was Ken, if I should apply the dye while the prep. was still wet? He told me that was correct. I use an air brush to dye my belts, the only problem that I have dyeing while the prep. is still wet is, it is hard to see how dark your color is until it totally dries.
  4. What weight leather did you use?
  5. I just sent for Angelus White Acrylic paint and some thiner. I will post the results. I am going to use an air brush. I tried their beige acrylic paint on some scrap with a damp sponge. It needed two coats, it came out nice. Jim
  6. I purchased a King Super Finishing water stone and in less then a years time it started flaking. I sharpened at the most 6 knifes with it. I purchased a DVD from the same person. It was a couple of hours long on how to sharpen knifes. I followed it to the letter. I asked for a refund and he refused. He told me he would refurbish it if I would send it in. I didn't want to put another dime into the stone. I should have checked with you folks first. I will try to post a photo of the stone. Jim IMG_0253.JPG stone
  7. I tried it for the first time and last. I like the paste much better.
  8. If you read my post above please don't make the same mistake I made. The stone that I ordered from Murray Carter turned out to be bad news. I used it tops 6 times. It started to flake off on the side of the stone. The DVD is very good, not the stone. He told me that I was to rough on it.That I must have been using something hard on it. He would refurbish it but would not give me a new stone. I guess steal is something hard. This guy didn't want to hear about it. I sent him a photo, the stone was so new you can still see the writing on it. Jim
  9. Hi Todd, I love your post. I am also a metaldetectorist if there is such a word. I got started into leather the same way that you are. I started out making a pinpointer case. I figured I would buy a few tools and that would be it. Well, a few years later and thousands of dollars spent on tools and leather. I don't regret it. I love working with leather. Good luck on the case, I hope you don't get bit by the tool bug, it's like drugs. Jim
  10. I wouldn't take that beautiful case to a pool room. I would be more worried about the case then I would be the sticks.
  11. Simply beautiful.
  12. Hi Johanna,

  13. It would be cheaper to buy him a pair of jeans. Jim
  14. I purchased some from Hobby Lobby, it works great. Thank you. Jim
  15. Something that was posted some where on this site that helped me. Trim the wool that you are removing the antique with. Wipe it off with straight strokes not the circular motion that you applied it with.It made sense to me and it worked. But like electrathon mentioned if the lines are not deep enough. it won't do much good. Jim
  16. YOU SHOULDN't use more then a few drops of the dye with the Bick 4.More is not better in this case. The pigment from tIhe dye will lay on top.I think Springfield Leather did a video on it. Jim
  17. Good question,I hope you get a response.I was going to order some for some name belts. Jim
  18. Thank you for the video, you do very nice work. I have a question. I am doing a belt for a friend. I am stamping ( Vietnam Vet) the belt and I want the letters to stand out a little.I am going to brush Bag-Kote on the letters as a resist. Then I am going to spray a light brown dye, then antique it with Fiebings paste and use Fiebings leather Balm. Will that work? Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong. Jim
  19. That is a nice belt, great job. It looks darker then Saddle Tan in the photo. To me it looks like It has a slight red tint to it, I like the color. Jim
  20. That explains why he never sent me a price for his burnisher. I am glad he didn't ,I would be in the same boat.
  21. I stopped using resolene and other finishes with my air brush. It doesn't seem to be worth the time and effort it takes to clean it.
