  1. Yes, they were very comfortable! But I found the crepe soles eventually deteriorated and actually stuck to the floor!
  2. You need to make yourself a double holster cowboy rig!
  3. Yeah, I had a pair of desert boots back in the day! I also have some crepe rubber I'm planning to use for moccasin soles.
  4. What's an adhesive eraser?
  5. Yeah, basting thread is a good idea. I even use it when hand-sewing a complicated item!
  6. Open an outlet in Canada, so I don't get hammered with duty and shipping costs?? Sorry, just dreaming...
  7. My problem is usually the opposite - the antique makes the piece too dark! I find Resolene very thick, even when mixed with water 50/50 and have never had good luck with it. The finish turns out streaky. I prefer the Tandy resist, but am still looking for something that protects my projects better so they don't stain too dark. Like Battlemunky said, it's an area of leatherwork that frustrates a lot of us!
  8. I just noticed when I clicked on the photo of the green and grey bag, the picture that comes up is of the credit card wallet. Might want to fix that!
  9. Beautiful work, Roland!
  10. Thank you!!
  11. Toxo, too funny!
  12. As a cat owner, I really want to read this!!
  13. The biggest mistake currently being made with the dog beds you see in the store is they aren't washable. Yes, the cover is, but the cushion inside isn't. Eventually it gets dirty and starts to stink, and the bed gets thrown out. I solved the problem by buying quilt batting, and folding it up, and using it to stuff the bed. I remove it and put it in the washer with the outer cover when washing the bed. Eventually, it falls apart, and has to be replaced, but it's quite cheap to buy! I don't know about other people's dogs, but mine vomit, one of them bleeds on the bed when in heat, and my old girl occasionally poops in her sleep. (She turns 14 in January.) So, yeah, something washable is a GREAT idea!
  14. Have never used it on anything but floors...will have a look! Thanks for the info.
  15. What do you mean 'is it ruined'? You said it looked very nice when you finished it. Did something happen between then and now? Can you post a picture, please? Psst, Fred, the correct name is 'Mop and Glo'. Haven't used it in years, and don't know if they still sell it in Canada!
  16. Agree with Tugadude! They are also selling Angelus paints, and have greatly increased the range of colours you can get for Fiebing's dyes. A year or so ago, I'd have to go to Michael's to buy Angelus.
  17. I admit, it does sound pretty strange, and I hope other Tandy's aren't operating this way, too. They're shooting themselves in the foot if they are!
  18. Yin Tix, there was a father and daughter in my leatherworking class, so they don't object to family members being in the same class. I'm suspecting the deal was only the wife bought a kit, and they're being cheap and saying BOTH husband and wife must buy kits before they can get in on the `free lessons`deal. Just guessing, but I think that may be the reason behind it.
  19. Wow, way to turn off potential customers!! Tandy provides free lessons with every beginner's kit. It could be the rule is only the person buying the kit can take advantage of the lessons. But, still, you think they could make exceptions for a husband and wife team! It was that deal that got me permanently hooked on leatherwork, and I've put thousands of dollars into Tandy's coffers in the years since!
  20. Excellent post! I do notice Tandy dropping a lot of the patterns that require extensive tooling from their product line, in favour of bags, purses and wallets that don't require any tooling. As someone who enjoys tooling, I'm not happy about this trend, but I can see the reason for it.
  21. Apparently Al Stohlman knew a thing or two about puppies! This was posted by Peter Main on the Al Stohlman FB page, and since they look to be my favourite breed (or a mix thereof!) I decided to share!
  22. Tandy did open up its library at one point, and allow everything to be downloaded for free. I am sure this book wasn't one of them, or I would have remembered it! Too bad - maybe we need to put pressure on them to put it in the library! I'm sure many people would be willing to pay to have a copy, even if it's digital!
  23. Usually the amount of chemicals and processing that goes into creating artificial leather means it is not the environmentally friendly product it's advertised to be. Just sayin'....not that I think anyone on this board is going to dump real leather for something made of fungi!
  24. Welp, you know what they say - you can fix anything but a broken tree or a broken heart! And from what we can see, the rest of the saddle looks to be in pretty good shape! Good luck - I think it will work out just fine with a little help from the members here.
