Hi again,,, I just finished this one yesterday. I was asked to make this for a friends husband for Christmas. She said she wanted a Deer & some leaves, & his name. It's 4oz Herman Oak with a CF interior I got from Springfield Leather,,, #195-553108 It may just be me, but when using thinner leather, I like using Herman Oak because it seems to give a bit more depth to the tooling. I copied the Deer head out of an old pattern book. It's only been about 20 years since I've done a Deer,,, hope it looks Ok. But the rest of the design I did myself. All the leaves are tracings from actual leaves I did a few years ago. I make my leaves as close to nature as I can,, as long as it looks good. I also had her write out a small note to be included inside the wallet. So I traced her note, so that it looked like she wrote the note herself. She really loved that. All the colors are done with Angelus spirit dyes,, & about 3 different brushes. Thanks for looking ,,, Ed

Beautiful as always!! Your layout & design pricipals are REALLY pleasing to the eye. I love the proportion of Positive tooling playing off the Neg background & open areas you design into your projects. All the tooling is so clean & sharp. As good as your pictures are,,, they just dont really show just how nice your stuff is in person!! Thanks for sharing,,, Ed

Thanks resqman,,, seems like you know a lot about my work. Yes,,, it's true,,, I'm not biq on most of the Sheridan designs. I can do them,, they are just not my favorites. I'm a lot more for the natural designs. I'm just finishing up a wallet with lots of small & smaller leaves,,, & it has a deer on it also. I will post it once I get done with it. Bill,,, I've been doing the curved basketweave for so long,,, doing them streight feels funny to me. Actually it's pretty easy to curve it,,, just takes a cpl techniques,,, & practice. Thanks again for all the wonderful comments! Ed

Hi Everybody,,, Here is another Bible cover ready to go. A few years ago I made one like this for a Preacher so that he was able to quickly lift the Bible out while he was at the Pulpit. The tall welt holds the Bible in, as well as the notes under the flaps. They are somewhat of a pain to sew because of the welt. Thanks for looking,,, Ed

Here are a couple new additions to the Key Fobs. A Mini Swivel knife & a Mini Head knife. The Mini Head knife is probably not a good choice if you are putting it in a pocket as it will grab everything.

Thanks everybody!! Monica, that one is my fav so far. I just got done making a mini swivel knife & head knife to go with the Mini Maul key fob. Altho, I soon realized,,, a Mini Head knife doesnt work so good in a pocket,,, it snags everytime,,, hehehe It's pretty though. I'll get some pictures on as soon as I get back from some errands. Thanks,,, Ed

Thanks Sam & Papaw,,, they will be in the $65.00-$90.00 range.

Hi Everybody, Here are a few of the things I've done recently. As several of you know, I've been working on making some swivel knives. I've made some prototypes to see what works the best. What I've found is as much as I love wood both natural & stabilized,,, wood is just not the best material for swivel knives as it just doesn't provide quite enough grip to work properly. I'll still make some made out of wood just because they are pretty. But, most will be a Hybrid with wood in the non grip areas with a medium or fine knurled brass section where you grip. A course knurl will hurt fingers after you use it for a while. Also, my knives are made with the bearing assembly consisting of 2 bearings which provide the smoothest free spinning action. Even my "Micro" knife has 2 bearings. The "Micro" knife was something I made just to see how small I could make it. The barrel is 3/16" dia. & it does have some adjustment for length. The only blades I plan on making is for my "Micro" knife. which uses a 1/16" -1/8" blade. All the rest, I strongly suggest the Henley blades or Bob Beards blades. They are the best blades I've used. Another feature I plan to put in most all of them is some friction holes in the yoke to give better control. Not all will have the extra file work on the yoke & bearing box,,, but if you are wanting something special, I'm sure we can create you a beautiful knife. The "Mini Maul" key fob is just something I'm playing with. I'm thinking of making a "Mini Head knife" fob,, & a "Mini Swivel knife" fob also. I guess I'll have to give up sleeping!! hehehe Thanks for looking. Ed

Is Leather Burnishers Still In Business?
BearMan replied to LeatherWerks's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Thanks Mike & Camano,,, Steve, I can understand your frustration,,, I wish I was able to help but I'm not the person making your burnishers. Actually the person making the burnishers for about the past 8-9 months has been my son Beary's friend, Ed Stiles. I guess that's where some confussion comes in. Ed is a very honest & stand up guy, I'm sure he's got things under control. But,,, that being said,,, I will call him for you & try to find out some info for you. As far as the quality,,, there are none better! If you were able to see the steps he goes through to make sure every aspect is absolutely perfect, you would understand. Take Care,,, I will let you know what I find out. Ed the"BearMan" LaBarre -
Anyone Using A Barry King Awl Handle With Bob Douglas Blade?
BearMan replied to mrtreat32's topic in Leather Tools
Hi David, The Douglas blades fit my "Stinger" awl handles perfectly. Also my handles fit very nicely in the palm of your hand. If you happen to be going to the Sheridan show stop by & try them out. -
Hi Everybody, It looks like I'm getting to this post a little late. We are the maker of the "Stinger" Awl Handles. They are $35.00 for most woods in either round or flat sided. I always recomend the Douglas blades as they come sharp & stay that way for a long time. We usually ship the handles by First Class shipping, wihich runs $3.00 for most parts of the US. We are starting to work on building up stock for the Sheridan show. So we are going to be working on a new batch of "Stinger" Awl Handles in the next week or so. Thanks,,, Ed & Beary Here's a couple pictures of some recent "Stingers". These are all gone. But more is coming soon.
