  1. Hi Jim,,, Amazing work,,, as always!! Your attention to detail is something that inspires us all. Thanks for sharing. Ed
  2. Hi Arthur, Here is a Cross I did a couple years ago. The Yellow is Angellus Yellow thinned down to 1 part yellow to 4 parts Denatured Alcohol. I applied it with an air brush,,, but if you are wanting a solid color a regular applicator works just as well. I did another one of these before using Fiebings Yellow dye,, & it worked the same way. Just make sure that the leather has NOT been oiled, as that will darken the final color. I know a lot of people use the deglazer,,, that is something I never do. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had a problem not using it. I hope this helps,,, Ed the"BearMan"
  3. Thanks,,, I'm glad you like the "Stinger" Awl Handle so much! You are right, the Douglas blade is well worth the money a well.
  4. Hi Curt, My son Beary is actually the one who makes the burnishers. His email is: leatherburnishers@yahoo.com I'll let him know to look for your email. If you can't get through to him in a couple days,,, just get back with me. For some reason,,, yahoo is loosing some of his emails. Thanks,,, Ed
  5. Thanks Jax & rosiart! Just like all the great hand made tools out there,,, they just help make your tooling experience so much better.
  6. Thanks Everybody! It was great to finally get it finished. It seems like it's been forever since I've done any tooling.
  7. Hi Everybody, Here are a few of the latest "BearMauls" off the bench. The one on the left is a 14oz Kingwood with the BearPaw cap,, the next is an Olivewood & Rosewood 14oz, the next two are Cocobolo 20oz & 16oz. All of these are gone except the Olivewood & Rosewood,,,, This person wanted one of the other handle shapes I make,,, & I made our BBS style handle,,, OPPS!! Oh well,,, we all mess up sometimes,,, hehehe Thanks for Looking,,, Ed the"BearMan"
  8. Hi Everybody, Here is a Bible Cover I actually started about 4 months ago,,, before life issues got in the way. I finally finished it a couple days ago. Thanks for looking. Sorry about the picture quality,,, new computer,,, & photo program. Ed the"BearMan"
  9. Hi Jason, I Highly recommend the Bob Douglas Awl blades!! The one you will need for anything more than 6spi is the "Slim" blade. I don't know why this thing is typing in bold underlined,,, I tried to get it off,,, but I won't go away. Ed
  10. Hi Everybody,,, I firmly believe that the Leather Community has the greatest group of people! As a lot of you know, I've been dealing with lots of family problems, in the past few months, which has all but stopped me from being able to get the tools made & sent out. Everybody has been sooo nice & kind, sticking with me,,, & giving me all the time needed to get them done. My Mother passed away, on Jan. 29th, so I will be slowly trying to get caught back up. I want to thank everybody for being so kind & patient,,, & sticking with me, through these tough times. I will be trying to respond to everybody soon. On top of everything else,,, we had our computer die, & we are in the process of getting a new one set up. So... if you haven't heard from me in a couple weeks,,,, Please contact me again. Thanks again,,,, I really appreciate each & every one of you!! Ed the"BearMan"

  12. Hi CJ, A lot of us have been using magnets for a long time. The snap replacement in the picture is a circular magnet & a cup. They are available seperately at many of the magnet suppliers like : magnets4less ,,, and other too. I hope this helps,,, Ed
  13. Hi Mike, About half way on the speed control,,, somewhere around 12000-15000rpm should be good. Is the wobble in just one dremel bit or all of them? Also are you using a flex shaft extension with the rotary tool? The reason I ask is that I just had to replace my flex shaft, & all the sudden, everything started to wobble. If it's isolated to certain bits, then the bits could be the problem. Dremel style burnishing tools don't really need much pressure to work,,, just a light or slightly more touch. But that being said, if by chance you have a bent one, it needs to be replaced. If I can help,,, just let me know. Thanks,,, Ed
  14. Thanks Slow! It's always great to hear how much you like them. Especially now as we've been dealing with my Mothers repeated hospital stays. Things have just been in a daze for the past month or so. Hopefully we can get back on track soon. We're really happy that you are so happy with what we made for you. Thanks,,, Ed & Beary
  15. Hi Sylvia, One thing that you can do that Really helps a lot,,, is a water bed heater under your stamping stone. I used one for years,,, & in the winter it keeps my stone at around 75 deg. Once turned on, it takes a few hours to heat up,,, so if you have stuff to tool every day, it might be best to leave it on. Just make sure you get one with a thermostat. It should cost about $25.00. I hope this helps.... Ed the"BearMan"
  16. Hi Phil, While I do like getting great compliments,,, Beary is the one making the burnishers. Yes, he does do a great job on them,,, he learned from the best!! hehehe j/k,,, We're glad you like them so much! Thanks again,,, Ed & Beary
  17. Hi Toshi & immiketoo, This is an old post from the first of 2012. Lots of things have changed since this post started. About 4-5 months ago, Beary my son took over making the burnishers, both dremel style & drill press burnishers from Chris (Spinner). Chris put alot of trust in Beary & I to take on the burnishers,,, & we really thank him! Beary has been staying very busy making the burnishers,,, & I help him out when I can. The web site is still up & running: www.leatherburnishers.com Beary's email address is : leatherburnishers@yahoo.com Please take a look,,, & if we can help in any way,,, just let us know... Thanks, Ed
  18. Yes, They work pretty nice for general cutting. Just watch out as most of those knife don't have retractable blades,,, & they are very sharp. My uncle was a carpet installer for many years,,, & he told me many horror story's about people getting cut really bad by those. Ed
  19. I strongly suggest the Douglas blades. I use the slim blade for just about all my stitching. My "Stinger" awl handles are designed to fit in the palm, so that they feel like a natural extention of your hand. I have a few left from the Nashville show. They are $35.00 ea. & they will accept just about any blades,,, including the Douglas blades. Here are a couple pictures... Some of the ones pictured are gone. Thanks,, Ed
  20. Hi, Josiah, Thanks Art,,, I'm glad you like them so much! Here are a couple picyures of the Awl handles I make,,, I made them to fit snuggly in the palm. The are set up to accept just about any blade, including the Douglas blades. Just let me know if I can help. My regular email is: polarb1717@aol.com or you can contact me on here. Thanks... Ed the"BearMan"
  21. Hi Everybody, Here is the piece I entered in the IFOLG show. I very happily won First place in the Masters catagory. I feel very fortunate to come away with anything, concidering what I was up against! I recieved some very nice comments from Akiko Okada, & George Hurst, the people that judged my item. All the colors were done with spirit dyes. Thanks for looking,,, Ed the"BearMan"
  22. I've found it's best to pour the batch through a coffee filter to remove the gunk. Also, I haven't seen it posted in a while, but just a reminder to neutralize the "rooned" area with some baking soda water after it's dried.
  23. Hi Andy, I just noticed your post. I'm glad you like the burnisher so much! I will pass the info on to Beary,,, I'm sure he'll appreciate the comments.
  24. Thanks,,, It's always nice to hear that people like the things you make,,,
