Ok I used the same vinymo not thread but in the smaller #8 size in the top and bobbin...and it sewed fine. So the problem is with the bigger thread. So guys..why might this be happening? I know my machine can handle the thread..it’s a consew 227r2.

Ok the timing is fine. i changed both threads to serafil size 138 I believe. Needle is round. Sewed just fine. I replaced the top thread with vinymo #5...same serafil bobbin..this time, the top thread(I have two different colors so I can see what’s happening) can be seen at the bottom. next I put the vinymo in the top and bobbin and bottom stitch is straight with small loops from hw top thread. I cranked the tension up and the top thread still didn’t pull the bottom thread up! i have used vinymo a lot and even on this machine..can’t figure out what’s wrong. i also noticed when I wind the vinymo on my bobbin it doesn’t seem tight like my other threads...if I take it out the machine it unravels easily. I’m stumped!

Sorry I forgot to mention I adjusted the top tension and it makes no difference..cranked it up real high and real low... no huge difference. i tried different needles..size 18 and 21 round and a tricut size 22. Leather is chrome tanned glued together with leftover sliced leather from veg tan inside. I tried other leather and still same result. Thread is vinymo #5 on bobbin and top. What type needle is best for topstiching and which for inside seams?

Hi everyone. So I got on my machine today and the stitches aren’t forming right. First, the top thread wasn’t pulling the bottom thread up because underneath the leather it was straight. I switched thread and needles and same issue. I thought my bobbin wasn’t winding right enough so I worked on that and that still didn’t solve the problem. Other than timing, what could be the issue? It’s a new consew 227r. I can’t remember anything drastic happening to throw the timing off. I did the other day, sew through two pieces I had glued together with aquilim glue..and my stitches weren’t all forming consecutively. I hate having to retime the machines so before I take it apart, I wanted to see what else I could try first. Thanks ahead! i have probably only sewn on this machine a total of 2 hours!

Great thanks!

i have a consew skiving machine. For some reason when I skive, the cut parts come back up and under the foot! I cannot figure out why. Any ideas? It’s really causing me problems because it’s jamming up and pushing my roller down sometimes. I tried pulling the leather out each time I skive a piece...not sure what changed for it to be doing this.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m sure I will try all of them to see which works best. I have one more problem. i have a consew skiving machine. Well, I did do what is in the picture lol. But, I was with a saddlemaker/bag maker at the time and on his machine. Now that I’m alone I can’t get it like that anymore for some reason lol. I used a machine. I mostly use the sewing machine but I can hand sew a bit. I just thought maybe someone has a tip as to getting it consistent all the time. Like is there a certain foot that works best or should I place clockwise or counterclockwise...I have a silver pen but it doesn’t always come off so what’s a good marking utensil that I could use? Also, should I slice the area where the magnet will be a little so the strength isn’t too depleted from the leather thickness?

Hello everyone. Is there a tip or trick for sewing the sew in hidden magnetic snap closures? I’m having trouble getting my stitching perfect. I will attach a picture of what I am trying to do. Thanks ahead! im putting them inside a leather bag. So I will have the lining and at the top chrome leather sewn at the top of the lining. This is where I want to put the sew in magnetic closure.

Thanks! I’ve actually seen this video before a while ago. It does work. I will try it again on the WC.

Ok I will check those things. Yes please post pics for me! Ok thanks. I won’t try wetting it anymore. Checking out that thread now!

Ok thanks that gives me some ideas!

Now it won’t move the leather..tried a 1 inch width piece. My knife was just sharpened yesterday so that is not an issue. Are there other adjustments I can try? I have the piece that rolls close as possible to the bell blade..the blade is close to the foot...what else?

Sonydaze im trying to get to 2-3 mm. I was wrong..it is 5 mm now. I just tried something. I dipped a piece of scrap in water then blotted it off..leather glides through now. So now I will play around and keep skiving until I get it thin enough. I saw something online about casing leather..so I thought maybe a quick dip would help..it did lol.

Ok yes please load a picture when you can. Thanks!

Ok. Yes I know it is for skiving..that’s what I use it for normally. But I want to use the bridle leather I have for my strap...as trimming too. So I need a front label to stamp my logo on, two pieces to attach my o rings. I believe it is 3mm. So my pieces will only be about 3/4 inch to 1 1/2 inch wide. currently it’s way too thick to do the trimmings. I have a skiving knife, but that’s not working out. I don’t have a manual splitter. All I have is the skiving machine.

Hi. I have a consew dcs s4. I need to split some 3 mm wicket and Craig bridle leather to use for stamping my logo and making the holders for my d rings on a purse. Will this machine do this? If so, what adjustments do I need to make? I tried it and the leather only moves a little then stops.

That turned out great! I love the front. It’s like the Hermès birkin. That kind of bag is on my list lol! Very impressive bag you made!

That is gorgeous, you did a fine job!

Ok I will post a pic. It’s nothing special. it took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about lol. I guess it was time for a serious picture because I have a lot of work ahead of me lol. Thanks though!

Yes I have seen that but it’s specific for a zippered wallet. I’m just needing a general tool that would work with any placement. I ended up doing this....I payed a strip of masking tape down... then measured how much space I wanted between the teeth and the leather... I then cut a thick bag stiffener the exact width I measured... put double sided tape on it and stuck it to the masking tape... so I can just move that around my bag to make sure everything is spaced the same.

I love the colors! Great work for your second bag. Being able to make your own pattern is a huge bonus. I have a tip for you when it comes to lining the bags. You need to make a separate pattern for your lining. This is because it needs to be smaller than your outside pattern so it fits neatly inside. I make my lining pattern 1/16 smaller than the outside. You can start there and adjust it smaller if you find the lining is still a little too big inside. If you already knew this than disregard lol!
