  1. That looks great so far! I haven’t attempted a structured bag or clutch yet. Definitely on the list. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
  2. Thank you. I’m still learning...so much I don’t know! This website has so much knowledge bundled together. I’m so appreciative of everyone who has answered my novice questions lol!
  3. Thank you! I love their bags too. I like the contrast in trims vs leather for the body of the bag. I just need to figure out what to put in etween the strap to keep it from stretching and give it a thicker appearance. I used Bontex which keeps it from stretching..but it makes edge painting harder. People have suggested webbing..but I’m not sewing on either side of the strap..just the middle.
  4. Hi everyone..so I’m trying to get my round corners perfect...I cut slits in the gusset... but I’m still getting buckling around the corner. Are there any tips or tricks I can use for this type of construction?
  5. Ok I will try that. Yes it would change the look. What glues do you recommend that will give me a permanent strong hold? I’m new to leather working so there’s tons I don’t know!
  6. Oh ok. Well this barenia does seem to have some stretch so I guess whatever I use needs to address that. But since I’m edge painting and stitches won’t be on either side..if I used webbing, should I use it the same width or narrower?
  7. Thank you baroness. I actually did have a local trophy shop do a few for me before. They charged me 12 per piece so I started looking for alternatives. They would go lower for a larger quantity, but I figured paying for the ones with a mold was better. Looks like I will have to go back to them until I can afford more high end ones. I’m also considering having them make me some laser engraved labels..not sure if that would take away from the look of my bags though...I haven’t seen many high end designer bags with leather labels. I may be wrong though!
  8. Ok. I thought as much too but dooney and Bourke does one of their strap like this..so I thought it was safe. If I had to choose between the nylon and Bontex...would putting another leather in between be even better?
  9. lol well that’s what it looks like at least. How much do the tips cost? I see it comes with a pointed one I guess for thread burning? I was thinking by the time I bought the tips I needed...I could have just bought the regad type one that’s 400 with 7 specialty tips..shipping probably 40-50.
  10. Ok. I attached a pic of the strap I make. I glued then cut everything even...I hand stitched down the middle to hold the extra leather from the twist that’s under the strap. I want the strap to have some thickness to it..a strong feel. I achieved that with the Bontex..but the more I thought about it..something told me there is a better material to use that would make painting the edge better.
  11. Ok thank you. Let me know how it works!
  12. Hello. I use haas barenia to make my bag straps. I believe it 3-3.5 ounce. I’ve been using Bontex in between two leather pieces to make it thicker and more firm. Is this correct? I paint the edges of the strap. But, I’m not sure if it’s ok to be using it this way without the leather being folded covering the paper. If this is the wrong thing to do, what should I use instead? Thanks!
  13. Why do you use a bigger thread on top and smaller for the bobbin? I’m not sure what my number 8 is either. I attached a picture of the back of the sample book I bought for the thread I use.
  14. Oh ok. Yes the prices are reasonable. It’s the shipping that sucks lol. I use it for the bag bottom..the thinner cuts I use for stays...like if I wanted to make a zipper window with just using the fabric..I make the window with the paper and thin fold the fabric over it for clean folds. I also use it for adding weight to a strap. I did that with the barenia. But someone told me I should use another piece of leather or canvas for thickening the strap. I haven’t learned how to make structured bags yet. I really want to. Once I figure it out I will use the Bontex as a bag stiffener.
  15. I have a guy! Contact Simon 9734544375. I buy Bontex from him.
  16. Your bags and saddles are wonderful! That is the skill level I want to get to! Gorgeous. What type of leather is that green bag? I think that would work well for my application.
  17. Ok! I have a 227r consew. I use Vinymo Mbt thread from Japan. Size 8. I am saving up for a fileteuse. I’m buying one from leathercraftpattern.com. It’s just like the regad but for 400 I will get tips included. It uses the same tips as regad as well. I will look up that Amann thread as well as your site now!
  18. I appreciate that! It is my third leather bag. I made the same style bag before but with cork fabric. Ive made in total 6 bags..3 being leather. I will definitely be making these in different colors! The bag is actually in a beige like upholstery leather that is treated for being easy to clean. I got some red lipstick on it and it wiped off lol! I will make more from this leather too. Anyway, I’m working on some improvements so I will post a pic of the next one! Thank you! Which tip do you use that creases at the same time rounding? I will look for those type needles! Also check out your fab!
  19. Well it was just listed as black pebbled leather. I rather not say who. The leather just wasn’t what I was expecting.
  20. Thank you so much. I have some things I want to tweak to make it better though. It’s my personal bag. I’m enjoying it. Feels good to have a bag no one else in the world has lol!
  21. I sent you a pm before I saw your post lol. I don’t need anymore Haas right now because I just bought some.
  22. Yes you are right lol..looks like I have fallen in love with the fine leather I can afford right now. I just want my bags to be bought and women just squeal because of how well the leather feels lol. At the same time, I’m new to all of this so I don’t know who has high quality at prices I can afford. The first hide I bought I was very disappointed. I got it from a seller on Etsy. It’s hard to buy and it’s not in person. For this bag I need a durable yet soft leather. No I don’t know who nstarleather is but I will look him up as well as the other companies you mentioned. I have samples from places like Garrett leather, mastrotto, and United leather. Garrett is way too high..Mastrotto doesn’t have the thickness I want. The bag was made from an upholstery hide by holly hunt..purchased from a seller on eBay. Anyway, thanks. Once I find the right place I will be able to sleep lol.
  23. Tugadude Thanks for that! I really want my bags to to be known for the fine details so the edges are something I am determined to master. I look at designer bags in the store and look all in them. I know people wonder what in the world I am doing lol. Anyway, thanks for the critique and I am working on improving that bag. I want to make the strap that holds the o-ring adjustable for those who need the strap a tad longer..gonna add feet as well. I will post pics and hope you see it so you can give me your thoughts!
