  1. Thank you! Do you know of any companies on here that laser cut patterns? Like if I provided the pattern and leather, they would cut it out for me?
  2. Hello. This is my second leather bag. Third actually, but we won’t mention the first one lol. Anyway, I would appreciate critique from you guys. It’s the first one in this pattern I made so I do have to make adjustments for the second one I make. i hand stitched the haas barenia straps with reverse pricking irons..as well as the other trimmings. The underside has the slanted saddle stitch..but I like straight stitches since the rest of the bag was machine sewn. I’m saving up for a fileteuse so once I get that hopefully my edge work will improve. I did use an edge beveler in the barenia but I’m not sure I did that right...once I painted I could still see where the leather was skinned off on the sides..maybe I didn’t paint down far enough?? I have no idea. Anyway, let me know how I can improve this bag. I want to make more and sell the ! one other thing I think I need to do is have the zipper deeper between the two layers. It’s a number 8 UCAN zipper...it just looks like too much tape is showing..any thoughts on that? Thanks!
  3. FYI the thread didn’t cause the skips the first time..I believe it was the hook position and the loose feed dog.
  4. Thanks Uwe. So....my problem is fixed. Here is what was wrong...this whole tim I had my bobbin in the machine. I forgot about it and thread had nested all around the assembly..so I removed that mess..put the paper wedge inside the foot..now everything is sewing fine. No skips and no hits. Uwe I will look into getting another feed dog. In the meantime I will try What you and the other members suggested to give me more clearance. I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me!
  5. Should the feed dog be centered in the opening? my guard isn’t moving the needle at all.
  6. Yes I remember that video. Very helpful. The needle barely moves..not as much as in the video from what I can tell. I will take the paper out and try to grind it some. The needle is just a size 18. The biggest I’ve tried to use was a 22 and boy need metal start hitting. That’s when I saw that having something wedge inside the feed dog and moving the hook assembly over to the right some stopped that.
  7. I put the paper in. Now the needle makes a sound and slightly moves when the hook comes around to it.
  8. It moves it very slightly..hard to tell really. I made a little piece from paper stiffener to put inside the feed dog. If that doesn’t work I will look closer at the hook guard. Doing it now.
  9. I moved the hook over to where I think it should be. But I think the hook is slightly hitting the inside of the dog. This reminds me that when I first got the machine and took the feed dog off..there was a piece of metal wedge in the cut out where the hole is. Later I figured out that when I used a bigger needle..the machine would make a metal hitting sound where the feed dog was..I had removed that piece. maybe I need to put another piece in there to see if it solves the problem of the hook hitting the feed dog. It’s a seiko brand feed dog. Is it possible that buying another feed dog will be best? Maybe this one isn’t compatible? Thanks. I did notice the back screw under the arm was a little loose when I went to loosen it. I will go back and tighten as much as I physically can.
  10. Sorry..looks like now my hook is too far from my needle. It wasn’t like that yesterday..not sure how it moves but I will try moving it back over.
  11. Well I’m getting skipped stitches. I will look at the timing again..but I just did it yesterday when the skipping first started...
  12. Thanks guys! I made those adjustments and I have no more movement! I tightened until I did bind the machine..then backed of until it had movement again. I will see if that solves the problem of me having skipped stitches sometimes. I’m enjoying working on this machine lol! I’m glad I’m mechanically inclines because the nearest shop is 3 1/2 hrs from me. Singer mania you are right, this is a great machine. To think I almost sold it to get a new white consew 227r made in China! Thanks to Uwe I thought again and kept my machine. My husband and I came up with a make shift speed reducer for me. Now I can sew a little slower when needed. It adds some noise but it’s worth it! Before I end this, any tips on the type of needle that works best for my type of sewing? Leather bags with leather 4-6 ounce chrome mostly..haven’t ventured to anything else yet. I have been using size 16 with a round tip and size #18 tri...
  13. Hi! So I noticed my feed dog has a lot of play in it. I will attach a video of how loose it is. Should it be this loose? What do I need to fix it?
  14. Ok I will post there. Ok I see what you mean. I gave it a 3/8 allowance...but I’m sewing like 1/8...maybe there is an issue with the thickness..I hand skived initially. I didn’t have the sliver. I neatened it up with the machine skiver..maybe there were inconsistencies in the thickness. Thanks for your help. I will read the comments again and see if there is something i an overlooking.
  15. Yes it’s the same machine with the wobbly dog. What do I need to replace to fix that?i have the screw tightened all the way on the feed dog...when you say step..what are you referring to? I’m not sure I understand.
  16. Ok I what needle size do you recommend for 4 ounce? I will be mindful of the presser foot lifting. I sewed the other piece onto the gusset and I got a lot less skipping...just 4 spots...maybe glue got in the way? I would think the machine could sew through a little dried glue though.
  17. Ok thanks. When I sewed the front (I was sewing the back) on I got less skipping. There must be something at play with the leather..maybe I got glue on the part I stitched...I have a consew 227r.
  18. Hate to keep bothering you guys but I’m about to lose it. I’m working on a bag I just made a pattern for. This is just a test to make sure my pattern works. I skived the gusset and the front and back piece will be sewn overlapped with the edges painted. So I keep getting skipped stitches. My machine is timed that was the first thing I checked. I changed the needle a few times..right now I have a #16 or 18 tri cut needle. I retreaded...I adjusted the feed dog..put more tension on the presser foot...I’m still getting skipped stitches. I have been taking the thread out and going back over in the same holes..still skips and once it skipped almost every stitch! I got a scrap of the same leather... no skips. I made sure not to get any glue where I would be stitching...I’m out of ideas. I will have to hand stitch the rest because I’m tired of redoing it. I have attached pics of the bag inside and out.
  19. Should there be much play in the feed dog. I’m getting skipped stitches on a bag..a skived later and full layer of 4 ounce. When I sew on the same leather but scrap....no skipped stitches. I do t have any glue where I’m sewing..I’m very confused and frustrated lol! I will upload a video in a sec. gotta get to my computer.
  20. How has the Janik unit been working?i too need a fileteuse but just can’t afford it! Leathercraftpattern.com has a unit just like the fileteuse for 440but it comes with 7 tips. Shipping is like 50. But, I need something now and I still can’t afford that lol!
  21. Ok I watched the video. I definitely will get a roller foot. Yes it stops when I stop pressing the pedal. I will give t some time and figure out how to separate the two. Right now it’s doing what I need so I won’t mess with it. Do you have videos on different techniques making leather purses on your YouTube? My problem areas are straps for some reason!
  22. Is there a way I could control the stone and blade separately? I wish the blade could just be turned on and I could control the speed of the stone...if that even makes sense to do that...
